  • I got this 1/2-ton transmission platform adapter for converting your floor jack to a transmission jack. It was only $42 or so on Amazon at the time I got it. Similar/same ones were selling on eBay and elsewhere for $75 to $100.
It ended up working for me but its probably best to be used with a lift or onto a lift jack support.

I had wondered how this would work. It looks like it is better to just spend the $129 on a harbor freight transmission jack.

Nice job. Yeah I think I might get one of those for my 66 C20 clutch job. Prob will put the truck on jack stands to get more clearance off the ground.

I just ordered this and ironically your video has shown me it should be perfect. I have a mid-rise lift, and usually have my car about 3' off the ground when I work on it. For your purpose Harbor Freight does have lower profile transmission jacks, that aren't all that expensive...but more than $42.00 though.

You can use the 5T jack stands, which gives you at least 20 inches, that should work. In my case my jack is a 1/2 inch hole so my nuts are screwed.

Very cool, I think the key to all this is using Two Jacks, one to get car up to make room for jack with the adapter on it.

I don’t think it was really good to used in a floor jack or lowered cars. On larger cars and trucks, it’d be a better fit. I did use it for my tranny drop more of a platform to hold til I could get other jacks underneath to lower the trans.

@@TunerwithKids I need a differential housing cover cradle to lower the center section out of the Ford 9". About 80lbs of ring gear etc. Hard to do laying underneath the car, lol. Maybe in my younger day perhaps. Thanks for the reply and Cheers from Michigan.

They make one for a floor jack that makes it lower than the transmission jack one. It works alot better with the one for the floor jack

I have the same model but I didn't need to do a slip fitting for the base of the adapter. Just took the flat round adapter out and the trans adapter for the jack no problem

these are designed for basic hydraulic jacks to slip on. These newer "racing" aluminum jacks dont play well.

7:50 I completely agree with you and I have done the clutch on my Honda Element two times without a hoist and in order to even get the transmission under the car, I have to roll it into position on my creeper. I might then be able to use the height of the rig you made on an ordinary trolley jack to raise the transmission back up to mount to the motor but I'm not so sure that the 18 in of full height would be enough for that part of the procedure. Great concept but there are some technical difficulties. Maybe add a large-diameter thread rod under the adapter so you can then get another 6-8 in of lift? Anyway, what I do is use one of those cross-braces and with a FWD car, you only need one of the screw-drives provided with the kit. I use the other screw drive to winch the transmission into position. Works great but you have to "reset" the screw drive a couple of times.

Yea this ended up being a good tranny jackstand. I used it a few times to drop IS300 tranny. I just got a MaxJax 2-post lift, so maybe this will become more useful with a lift.
