Can VANLIFE in a MOTORHOME EVER WORK for our FAMILY?!?! HERE ARE THE RESULTS...

  • After a fantastic holiday in western France we know it is time to bite the bullet and experiment working and home educating in Stampy our motorhome for the day. If it works, we know that we are ready to try vanlife in Wales next week. However, with power and space becoming an issue almost immediately, it doesn't take long before Bee's patience is frayed.
    In other news, Daz picks up some stinky 'kit' and talk of power banks reminds us we must go to the weigh bridge...
    Join us in gloriously sunny West Sussex as we fudge our way through a typical motorhome day. Can we really 'do' vanlife, or are we just not cool enough?
    Here's a link to the multipurpose non-slip mat seen in the video:

    Bee I’m in complete awe of you. Four boys,of which, you are homeschooling three. Daz, you have the best sense of humor. We would never be “brave” enough to travel abroad in our van. We are enjoying your travels and getting a peek at your car parks (new term for us). For some reason I feel like having a cup of tea after watching your video. A cupper ?? Keep posting. You guys are fun and real. Phew !!!

    You have a couple of choices really, a jacket or similar, which will see you through the day, and you can even get an additional Solar panel to add to it, or switch to lithium and add another solar panel (if you only have one), and also consider an inverter (2000w plus) as well as a B2B charger to recharge your leisure batteries quickly, as you will know lithium is expensive and we have stayed clear of it, but living here in Spain with our Motorhome sunshine isn’t in short supply 😃 I would focus on what solar input you have, a B2B charger and maybe look at a second leisure battery as well as the inverter - it also looks like you don’t live too far from where we did before we moved to Spain (chandlers Ford) happy travels and enjoy this new found freedom

    • @66mjtaylor
      @66mjtaylor Před 2 lety +1

      @@EscapeintheMotorhome When driving around, your van is producing massive amounts of electricity from the alternator which can be used to charge your leisure batteries.
      A B2B charger is the most effective tool for this job because it creates a multi-stage charge for the leisure batteries from the simple system voltage provided by the alternator. It will always make sure you van battery is fully charged, but then uses the excess to charge your leisure batteries, for example, if you were to start your engine for say 1st mins you would find it would charge your leisure battery to nearly 80%, so giving you loads more power, it’s worth the investment - a good one is a victron charger, simplysplitcharge.co.uk/victron-orion-tr-smart-12v-30a-isolated-dc-dc-b2b-split-charge-kit.html, I’m not promoting this site, but this is the sort of split charger you require

    Nice video. I almost feel like I’ve had a mini break on my doorstep!. Very picturesque spot - we’re just 10 miles along the coast from here. We love it. Re the power struggle on working in the van I’ve found Chromebooks or MacBook are going to give considerably better battery life than a Windows laptop, but that’s easy to recommend if you haven’t got to kit the whole family out with new gear!

    • @EscapeintheMotorhome
      @EscapeintheMotorhome  Před 2 lety

      West Sussex and Hampshire coast is fabulous. We are really lucky to live where we do but we certainly feel we are a little too surburban and crave the wilds a bit more!
      Thanks for the recommendations. Haha yes much expense and I do have a Mac I use for work but its not the portable! In fact, I edit on it. Need to edit on one of the kids' laptops while I'm away. The power bank we thought would work for us is well and truly dead so back to the drawing board. Thanks again.

    Hi Darrell & Bee & boys,a solution to your power needs a portable generator you can put it in your garage at back of motor home strap it down & run it whilst driving it will charge every thing electrical it will also charge up your leisure batteries I know if two motor Homer's who have purchased them Travell Trolls, & Highlands & Hammòcks,brilliant things ,not cheap but worth it,solar panels are good as well but are they weather dependent I dont know generators can be noisy but they do excellent work run it when driving up u ti bed time turn it off theres plenty of electric for two to three days which ever option you choose its expensive if I was you I would contact either of the 2 mentioned to get their take on them .You could still use designated park ups with electric & never drive with water tanks full 100 litres is pretty heave you dont want to be ordered to weigh the motor home with full tank of water could be over weight that's why most motor homes fill up at campsites then empty when they leave,another great couple to befriend would be Rob & Lynn on tour on you tube they will help you with any questions your not sure about ,oh yes I forgot Rolling Rucks they are full time motor Homer's with three children they have a cab over van like yours with a u shape lounge they are brilliant people as well they are home schooling in their motor home as well they are touring Europe at moment ,I am trying to get finances in order to purchase my own motor home but may not be able to due to my health have to see what the doctors say .If I can buy my own I am purchasing a generator for sure ,& I would do away with the gas supply & buy a electric cooker & oven & micro wave .

      Wow so much help - we're so grateful for the time you have put into responding. We are investigating all power possibilities and our budget will of course have an effect on the final choice. Also, will Stampy be our final motorhome? Probably not. The generators can be moved I guess?
      Really hope you can get your motorhome depending on health, sending all good wishes for that and thanks again for watching and caring. Bit scared of messaging all those famous vanlifers! 🤣❤

    Currently sat in MoHo watching your vlog from one of the many Camping-car locations we have used the past few weeks.They are pretty good to be honest anywhere between 10-15 euro per 24hr. We are on our third night at this particular one as it’s the weekend and it’s a great location. Sounds like you need one of those ecoflow power banks for all the devices. Also get a solar panel/s to top up your leisure battery. We could off grid a lot but we don’t have an inverter to power our air con unit so need hook up as it’s sooooo hot!
