  • Bonjour from us!
    After an amazing Chamonix stay we hit some bumps in the road which result in a bent bike rack, but how did our sat nav get completely busted?
    We weave in and out of Switzerland as lady luck continues to elude us, searching for that elusive gas canister and wondering if Border Control will stop us and check Sammy's documentation. Will things get better?
    Many thanks for watching, and LIKE & SUBSCRIBE as they say! :)

    I use a brought a gaslow bottle and fitted a direct fill adapter to it, so no cutting holes in motorhome, never had a problem filling up in France unless they are closed for lunch. Happy travels, regards karl

    I have french ,german and spanish bottles. Depending on where we are going. They are not exspensive . far cheaper than callor and about a quarter the price of the most exspensive gas camping gaz. spanish the cheapest about 12 euro for 11kg. been across Swiss border loads and never had any checks .
    I have the bike rack park you need but an in north east England.

    We use LPG, and travel extensively through Europe, we live in Spain and often get into France and never ever had a problem with filling. It’s seriously worth the investment and if you ever changed the Moho then you take it with you.

      Good to know. It made sense, but we didn't have enough experience or know enough people to be confident. Rest assured, I shall not be relying on CampingGaz in the future! 😂 Daz

    Had fitted two Gaslow Refillable bottles 11Kg and a 6Kg back in 2019. With all the LPG refills in France,Greece,Italy,Portugal,Spain and the UK it's saved me a few euro. In Europe you just use filler adaptors for the input port. Hope the gas anxiety has not put you off taking a Motorhome to Europe again.

    I noticed that in France about been beeped at when I was on Brit plates, it never crossed my mind and to be honest I could not care less (never happened much to be fair), but what brought it to my attention was as I now live in France and changed the plates to French ones ,in the past 6 years I have never been beeped at again. probably nothing, The wife and I were in France just after Brexit and we had a few swear words from a few people in France, our friends who had just toured Italy had lots of horns and and hand signals towards them. Europe and especially France just below the surface are very much a racist country and I say that after spending most of my life in France and now live here. Just my view ;-)

      Thanks for the advice. We should've stopped to research things like this, but never expected to have this problem almost 3 times in a row, having had no issues on the way down France. As I mentioned in the video, if we go back, I'll buy connections for the French propane bottles. 😊

      Hi Leanne, thanks for the comment. Yes I get PTSD at the sight of a camping Gaz bottle now! We're making the videos primarily for our own memories, but sharing the experience and the things we discover on here, so there's a bit of everything and some repeats. I think this was the last gas issue you'll be glad to hear :) We shoe-horned a lot into those 3 months and each day is almost a 20minute video which takes a week in our spare time to edit. We had optimistically set out to do daily vlogs, but quickly realised we had no spare time for that. Hence the catch up. There's only a week or so left on the trip to put out there and then we can catch up with what we've done since. We've been home-based a lot as our 14yo is taking 2 GCSE's in a couple of weeks, and as home-eder's this puts a lot of pressure on Bee. Plus they all have paid classes they attend through the week, so finding a gap and some half-decent weather has been hard. The UK is not as motorhome friendly as France... yet. Recently Stampy has had some repairs and upgrades. We did a couples night away in Whitstable and spent Easter half term down in Swanage. We're looking forward to sharing some newer videos asap! :)

      @@EscapeintheMotorhome thank you for your reply ❤️ it wasn't meant as a criticism..just want to know that next time you go to France you won't be searching for camping gas 😂😂 my twins are starting GCSEs next week and it's full on so I understand how stressful these times are 🙈 we have a 5 week trip planned to Croatia as soon as that last GCSE is done 👌👌..bring it on lol. Haha 😊 yes we would do it differently next time for sure. The next big gap for us is well into 2025 or early 2026! 😢 and we've even weighed up a round the world trip (without Stampy of course), but then there's two more kids to guide through that same educational obstacle course! Who knows what the future holds 😊 Daz

    Another great vlog. Would it pay to get a bigger size gas bottle? The 907 will not last with fridge running on gas. Keep safe.

    • @EscapeintheMotorhome
      @EscapeintheMotorhome  Před měsícem

      Hi David, in terms of CampingGaz the brand, this was the biggest of their bottles I thought? It worked out each one lasted 9 days. If we had known that at the start, I would have gone for the French adapters and French big bottles. Hindsight eh! 😄

    • @davidjwack

      @@EscapeintheMotorhome I got a smaller bottle, thought it would be big enough when first camped, only lasted few days. We all learn by our mistakes.

    It's only 350€ gas refil kit. What's that hard to fit one refil system?

    • @EscapeintheMotorhome
      @EscapeintheMotorhome  Před měsícem

      Hi, the two systems I looked at required me to cut an opening in the gas door of my van for the lpg connection to a pump. If I had the spare money and time before we set off, I would have gone for it. But the limited lpg stations and the possibility of being turned away because our vehicle isn't lpg, put me off doing it for now. Gaslow was one of the brands. 😊

    Does your van not have AC as saw you had your windows open. Be interested how well you coped without it if the van doesn't have it. Still looking for a van and might just be able to afford a van but still not going to have AC generally in our price range up to md 25K.

    • @archiediggins641
      @archiediggins641 Před měsícem

      We were in Europe during the heatwave 2022 and AC was needed for most of our trip ( we could not have coped without + we had our dog). Plus the actual vehicle AC whilst driving. I also bought a small rechargeable fan. I guess it depends where and when you head out as to whether you need AC or not. On a plus van prices seem to be reducing now so you may get lucky.

    • @EscapeintheMotorhome
      @EscapeintheMotorhome  Před měsícem +1

      Hi, no, sadly, the van doesn't have AC. Not even in the cab. I researched window hung and roof mounted options before we left but didn't have time to source and fit anything. There were times the kids sat at the table for dinner with beads of sweat on their faces 🥵 so we also bought a 12v usb fan, the rest of the time, we just hoped for a gentle breeze. I spent the most time in the van, remote working, and it was OK, but aircon would have been a nice luxury 😎

    • @RollingwithTheRobsons
      @RollingwithTheRobsons Před měsícem

      @@EscapeintheMotorhome Thank you. We definitely can't afford main living area AC unless the ones you hang out of window. Waited a while to buy a van saving up but the ones with AC are still outside of our budget for now. Interesting as I can work remotely as well so wonder if I ask for some half-day holidays then can drive early morning. Park up work. Then drive to a aire/campsite on the night time.

    • @EscapeintheMotorhome
      @EscapeintheMotorhome  Před měsícem +1

      @@RollingwithTheRobsons Have you looked at the ceiling mounted options? I think you can pick up a standard sizes to fit a 40-45cm square opening? Which is like the 3 roof opening we have, so we could swap out a window for the AC unit and wire it in. Might mean you can get a cheaper van but have the AC unit fitted afterwards? It was a year ago when I looked so might be wrong. If you're only travelling in the UK, you'll only need it for a week!.. lol :)
