- My 1,711th kite video. Just one kite today, but a rather special one. I made this video over a month ago, and forgot to upload it, so I do so now in the hope that a few people may find it of interest.
Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .
Such an unusual design. I love this kite. It keeps me puzzled how the physics of its flight work. You would think the designer of your kite would see it as a compliment others would want to make a copy. If it was for commercial gain he would have a compliant but not for a one off kite to fly for pleasure. Almost all kites we make have come from an earlier design. Rarely can someone claim to have an original. Just my thoughts.
I agree 100%, Carl. Whether it's a bird kite, an octopus kite, or a Vietnamese moon kite, someone's done it before and anyone can put their own interpretation on it. Unless someone deliberately copies a design for commercial purposes, there is no problem, but some people are over-protective of what they see as their idea.
That South Asia traditional design is superb.
I agree! It's one of the more unusual among my collection, and I'm happy to have it.
Fantastic kite, Jim. Ive never flown this kind of kite. Yours seems quite stable and willing to fly, with reliable wind of course. This style has caught my attention before and is on my mental "wish list". Something to look forward to one day. Thanks for sharing.
It's good, John, and looks very impressive, but I don't think I'd recommend it for general flying. It takes a lot of assembly (I keep mine mostly assembled, but that has its difficulties in storage and transport) and mine broke twice before Peter fitted some stronger spars at the wing-tips for me. When it crashes, as all kites can if conditions change quickly, it sometimes comes down quickly on its end, which is where the damage occurred.
Nice video Jim. It is a great looking kite. One like it is on my list. Thanks Jim !
It's certainly a special kite, Dewey, and if you get one I'm sure you'll love it. I think the designer has a video somewhere showing the assembly, which is useful.
That's a beautiful kite Jim.
It certainly is, Armando. I'm lucky to have it, I think.
Hi Jim, I like so much this kite, my English is so poor to translate my feeling about it, but it has a nice design when it flies. His movements are so pure... Same feeling I have with the Chinese kite we talked about it few times ago.
Yes, Christian, it's certainly a special kite and flies differently to all my other kites. The designer did a good job.
Look forward to seeing it when we come down. It looks intriguing
If conditions are right, I'll make a point of bringing it to the beach, Anne. Did you get my email about the sled? If you're OK with it, I'll add it to the other two items.
@@JimNicholls yes sorry meant to reply. Yes please. Will email
@@annepeterwhitehead7409 No problem!
Lovely contrast against that sky Jim. At first it looked like you were trying to quad line it 😁
There is a 4-line version of it produced by the designer, David, but one line is enough for me to handle .
What timing. I was ready to upload two videos. Then i saw yours had come in. I had to watch yours first. It flies well to classical music.
I think I might have been the first to view your videos. Yes, the Moon Kite is a very classical-type item, I think.
Yes, you are the first. It is 4:15 AM (my time). Everybody is sleeping. Just headed to bed. I had to get 4 videos uploaded. The other two to my channel:55 Days At Sea. It is my two month trip to Bora Bora.
You are a real night owl! Your cruise photos look very nice.
Very Nice kites
Thanks, Vikram!
lovely looking kite Jim do you ever fly it with tails on the tips ? a friend had a similar problem with copyright when making a kite
I've never tried tails, but it's something that I perhaps should try. Some kite designers are very sensitive. Making a kite for personal use is not regarded as breach of copyright, I believe, and in Peter's case his was quite different anyway. And of course it wasn't an original concept, and was the guy's version of a Vietnamese traditional kite, which anyone could copy.
