    Great video couldn't get ignition key cylinder out of steering column until watching your video paying close attention to your mannerisms; it then popped right out; the rod & key movement worked great; thank you!!!

      It's very easy, women should never sell themselves short because the don't know what they're doing. Sometimes just taking a look is all you need. My mother had been told by a shop it would be $600 to change a light bulb and she was crying over it. I made her go take a look and she discovered it was 2 push tabs that you can bare hand pop and the bulb slips right out. Now she takes a look before taking her things places

    great tutorial except most of the time the reason you're changing the lock cylinder is because it won't turn.

    What if the reason for replacing the cylinder is because the key no longer will turn

    Simple enough it worked. Except removing the steering bottom cover with the key stuck was no fun. Thanks for the help.

    So say you don’t have the key to put it in accessory mode and variables are restricting to get a new key. What would you do?

  • @johnborealis1798
    @johnborealis1798 Před 7 lety +2

    Do you need the key to the car in the ignition for the button to release the cylinder? We have the key to the car broke off in the ignition and it is too far in to reach it and remove the key.

    • @jimmieroan9881
      @jimmieroan9881 Před 5 lety +1

      if its broke off and it is still in the cyl the key should still be working as far as turning off and on, if not take a small pick or tiny screwdriver and try pushing whats left of key in a little or jiggling it some to make it turn, you have to have it in the accessory position, doesn't matter about key as long as it will turn to accessory.

      @@peshmadscientist1833 don't cause these people trouble, that black thing is the reader, it reads the factory key to tell the computer its okay to start the car, if you change key it has to be reprogrammed, what little bar and what thing. call dealer and ask if you don't know. or look it up in a repair manual, don't give advice that can cost someone hundreds or cripple their car, just say you don't know.

      @@jimmieroan9881 you're right. I deleted my irresponsible suggestion. My steering lock was sometimes not releasing so i just defeated it, but someone not too careful could wind up in big doo doo. Scrapped that rust bucket this year anyway.

      @@jimmieroan9881 Hi, I have an '08 Focus and I have to press and turn my key inward with force to get the car to kick over, just turning it will not kick the car over. Does this sound like a key cylinder issue or a faulty chip reader? I have tried my original Ford key with internal chip and 2 key dupes I created, same issue with all keys. I don't want to replace the cylinder if it does nothing to solve or bricks the car.
