Guys, sorry to tell you but you don't know anything about the 40th anniversary or the M96 X51! I have owned my 40th anniversary for 17 years. Firstly IMS rarely fail and they give you warning signs before they do, I replaced mine after 12 years of ownership (got a cylindrical one fed by engine oil). Secondly, the more a 996 is driven the less likely the ims fails. Thirdly, the M96 is quite a robust engine, no worse than many others that people never criticise like some BMW M3 engines etc etc. Fourthly, the X51 has a lot of engine modifications from camshafts to enhanced cooling with dual water pump, better oil sump. The M96 X51 is rated at 345bhp but generally delivers around 360-365bhp at the crank. The 40th Jahre is a bit faster than the 997S on track as it is 100-150kg lighter, I have experienced that first hand on my many track days. According to the Porsche specialists I talk to in the UK who are both highly regarded and involved in Porsche racing (Autofarm and RPM Technic), there isn't much tuning or bhp gains to be made on the car without increasing engine capacity. In particular, I don't know what that car has had as an ECU tune.
Anyway, if you want one, you shouldn't be worried but, as usual, get a good one as maintenance can easily be very expensive.

The best may be the 993. The 911 has grown steadily larger since the 996. There ought to be a return to basics -- compactness, lightness, and a rigid frame. The 996 isn't too bulky, but it lacks rigidity.

What do you thin of the auction result? This video is a bit old. What do you think it would bring now?
