I just feel so bad that my viewers that are kind enough to take the time to comment are being “targeted” especially on sensitive topic videos. It’s so unethical.
@@reinascullyit totally makes sense you feel that way, I'd probably feel the same but you have enough on your plate. The last thing you need to do is micromanage the comment section for scammers because CZcams can't do their job
This is something that happens across CZcams as a whole. I've had it on comments to nearly every channel I follow. CZcams don't do anything to even prevent this when its so easy to see the trend.
The telegram one in particular? Regardless, how frustrating!
@@reinascully Yes. I've been hit with that one for maybe 3+ years now on multiple channels. Its deeply annoying. Most channels barely mention them though, so you warning people about it is good.
@@reinascullyI comment on a lot of channels and at least half my comments get at least 1 bot scammer commenting on them. Not sure why CZcams can't figure out how to auto-ban scam comments better.
Thanks for acknowledging it, i see these sorts of scammers on a bunch of creators' channels and i try to flag, but often the creators themselves don't mention the situation and i worry that less-wary people will get into trouble. It's nice to see someone actually address the problem. Hopefully it gets better from now on 🤞

@@KonFess JerryRigEverything has a video where he paid one of those scammers to interview them by text. In this case, it was supposedly somebody from Africa (I think?) and his family/friends. They were making nice money for their means.

I always report those comments on every channel I see them on. It's definitely not just happening on your channel, but thanks for making a video to address it and warn your viewers. Most other creators don't address it.
Glad someone actually bothered talking about this as a problem, cuz I'm feeling silenced about having my pictures stolen and used on other websites for who knows what and I can't even do anything about it because the websites are unsearchable....😡
CZcams needs to get its house in order, this has been a issue for over a year. Many creators have given solutions and youtube has done nothing.
With the "Blocked words" youtube refuses to ban "Special" characters so they will always make it through. Use a ASCII and special character generator and ban all the potential characters is the only way at the moment but that can take days to block all the combinations.
It's quite disappointing that Google would handle fraud like that, I had much higher expectations

@@Mattatiah95 they're already targetting vulnerable people with the "obvious" scams (not obvious to everyone, or some people are desperate enough to risk it) so morals definitely don't come into it. If anything a topic like that gives them a higher chance of getting someone who hopes it's real, sadly
I feel your pain, though not to the same extent nor on this platform. I know Phil and countless other creators also experience this issue. The worst I can say is being spammed with scam bots on Twitch where at least their prohibited terms system actually works so I can heavily mitigate the issue. I had almost forgotten it was even an issue since I stopped streaming over 18 months ago. Thank you for your continued vigilance and I'm sure the occasional update video such as this one, or casually mentioning it in a video, has helped some of the less tech-savvy avoid falling prey to this scam.

Bots and impersonators online are the worst. There is a case (i read it in print) of a college professor who fell in love with a famous model (impersonator) who supposedly fell in love with HIM. He could not be persuaded otherwise, and of course he could never meet her, because she was unreal! It is as if Britney Spears started emailing me (a random 60+ guy with no showbiz connection) and said she was in love with me. It is so sad, and YT ignores any responsibility. They should make PSAs like yours!!!
Those scammers are very obvious but unfortunately some people still fall victim to them.
I'm so happy your dad got to go to LA. I have seen these types of scams on other channels for sure it's so annoying, they get removed and filtered usually pretty fast.
There was a time I replied and reported as spam instead of impersonating, and once the account and the comment was removed people got mad at me in the replies including the original commenter I think

I have seen these scammers impersonating every single youtuber for the past 6-7yrs. It's crazy how many of these accounts they have.

Many other channels have had this same issue and usually quickly mention it in their video just to say to be aware to be very careful not to fall for these jokers, block and/or report them.
Those types of spam/scam accounts are all over the place. Nearly any video I leave a comment on I get one of these replying to me. It's so annoying.
CZcams is trash for that, I've followed another person that lost their old (side) account because CZcams thought they were impersonating themselves. But refuse to remove an actual impersonator that uploads their streams...
That's just so rude and whoever did that needs to grow up, get a life, and find something more product with their life. Keep up the excellent work your doing and I still enjoy your videos and have a wonderful day

The only effort is the initial programming. Then you let them loose, so to speak. Same on Google's end - "Sky" is a bot.
That's so messed up. What a horrible and sad person to do these things. Also, as someone who's worked in customer support, that automatic response email is so bad.

They've commented on a bunch of my comments before but I always just report it as spam. I remember when Philip DeFranco was having issues with this too! Sooo annoying I'm sorry this keep happening to you!

people in the position of replying to complaints (if your complaint was answered by a real person and not an AI looking for keywords) usually have a quota of emails /complaint per hour they have to meet and a list of pre-approved, scripted, pre-written replies they just cut and paste into their reply to you. Because they have a metric of replies/email per hour, they are usually skimming your complaint/message for key words/phrases so they can cut-n-paste as quickly as possible. Most of the time, the body of messages are the same in complaints, so the human drones replying are just moving in a kind of mental auto-pilot. I had one of these positions once and WAS FIRED ('separated') for reading the full messages and investigating the issues which would lower my ability to meet the metric.

That CZcams response e-mail reeks of, "Please don't sue me," type of language. The problems you talk about don't really have good solutions tho. Since everything's based off e-mail as a form of account creation, all these scammers have to do is make a new account, like you said.
I think the only way to combat this type of problem would be to have YT raise their requirements for account creation, and have a better verification process. It would theoretically make their site more secure, and would probably go a long way towards combating the spread of misinfo. The drawback to a higher barrier to entry would be just that: a higher barrier, meaning anyone couldn't just make content and upload it anymore. It's the same dilemma with things like voter registration, it suppresses the voters more than it deters identity thieves.
I unfortunately work at a job where I have to send "copy+paste" responses to issues like this, so you have my sympathies. More often then not, the people on this side of it want to do more, we just don't have the power to.
The part that pisses me off even more, is CZcams DOES NOT DO SHIT about it!

Reina, my old friend. i want to use your video as a prime example of how really bad youtube and their practices have become. i just got through a 24 hour ban from commenting on videos because their idiotic system claimed a certain thing i say to all my friends on their videos in the comment section was considered spamming which i did nothing wrong and youtube and team youtube were both completely useless. so, i am going to link your video through mine once i get it posted. it's time youtube gets put in their place over this type of bs. also, very sorry you went through this mess as well.

Huh. I responded to your last video and then I got a response, and for a brief moment I was like "Oh yay Reina-sempai noticed me", but unfortunately it was not. And the text clearly showed of a spam bot or something.
I ignored it, but had no idea just how bad the situation was. Sorry this is happening to you. Hope youtube gets their shit together.

Reina ... as for word blocking, you might see if the scammers are using any special characters in their comments (i.e. something that looks similar a standard, alphabet letter, but isn't). Just a thought.

Once I watched another channel with the same TG-bot that commented under every single commend. I clicked on every single reply by this TG--bot and reported it.

They're not obvious to everyone, that's why they do it - the "mistakes" are deliberate and weed out the people they can't easily manipulate, so they're only left with vulnerable people to target

@@SuicideNeil yeah but even among younger generations there are always people who'll struggle to realise what's going on in these situations or protect themselves, y'know? For all kinds of reasons - and they don't deserve to have people take advantage of them. The scammers only need enough victims to make it worthwhile - if people stopped taking the bait, they'd just switch to more sophisticated scams without the "obvious" tells (which are going on right now as well!)
Honestly I think it's gonna get worse as AI tools get more widespread, and it gets easier for scammers to automate their grift and tailor it more to individual victims - makes it even more important for platforms to keep people safe and stop them getting involved in the first place, but welp

I feel like at this point in time if you still fall for this scam. A scam that has been going on for years and that just about every creator with a decent platform has talked about. You deserve it.
Honestly this is the wrong way to look at it, because it's justifying what they're doing. The way they operate is by creating "obvious" scams that the majority of people sus immediately - the people who don't are the ones who (for various reasons) are more vulnerable to manipulation, and they're the ones who end up harmed.
It's a targetted attack that weeds out anyone who'll be a waste of their time, and they can focus purely on working over vulnerable people - who don't deserve to have money stolen from them. Ideally nobody would be manipulated like this, but that's not the reality - especially important to remember when you have older relatives, or when people in general are struggling financially and desperate for ~anything~ that might help them
