  • Ecuador has defended its storming of the Mexican embassy in Quito last month. Its lawyers told judges at the International Court of Justice that the country acted to arrest 'a common criminal'. Security forces arrested Ecuador's former vice president, Jorge Glas, who had been granted political asylum by Mexico.
    Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports.

Why do two Spanish speaking countries have to settle their dispute in an english speaking court. Don't we have spanish speaking judges and shouldn't an international court of justice have multi language oficials and translators?

I was asking me the same thing, but since the officials languages of the ICJ are English and French, this make sense I guess. For instance, Mexico's side also had a lawyer in the team who defended Mexico's part on french. All the best

You can't simply raid an embassy. You're basically attacking a nation by doing that.
