Mexico, by tradition since the WWII and other political conflicts in LATAM gives asylum to any who request it, no matter if they are in the right or left side. Mexico doesn’t have any diplomatic issues with none, that’s what bothers to some countries such Ukrainian in the 2022 when Mexico decided to stay apart of the Russian-Ukranian conflict. A hypothetic war or militar conflict between Mexico and ecuador guess who’ll win? 🤦🏻‍♂️ . In LATAM, Brasil and Mexico have the biggest and strongest army forces so this is not a discussion. For the Mexican government ecuador doesn’t exist. Isn’t even a comercial partner, they far apart from Mexico, ecuador isn’t not helpful in anything to Mexico. This small country isn’t rival in many aspects. The past 10 years left side political got the power in LATAM (Evo Morales, Pedro Castillo, AMLO, Gabriel Boric, Gustavo Petro, Lula Da Silva), people who think different and are against the interests of the USA 🇺🇸 in some topics such as Litio and Gas. *There’s more behind this irruption, such as: Noboa born, raised and educated in the EEUU…… people get ur own conclusions but think before answer* XD

That wouldn't be reasonable and a far bigger scandal than what Ecuador did. Ecuador didn't mess with Mexican personell of the embassy. The one mexican guy who tried to interfere was pushed aside (later to the ground), but he wasn't detained. So they respected the immunity of the Mexican personell. If Mexico would have threatened Ecuadorian personell in Mexico, Ecuador would probably have done the same. No use for that kind of escalation.

Anyone wondering or claiming it as such, embassies aren't treated as territory of foreign nation, but it has to be respected within diplomatic bounds. Otherwise, embassies could enforce their own country's laws on embassy premises, which isn't the case. Every embassy is bound to national laws in country which they reside. Diplomatically, they should have gotten permission to enter on embassy premises beforehand, but embassies aren't territories of foreign nations. You think UN should vote every time embassy moves premises to recognize embassies supposed sovereignty? Laughable.

@@mariokrings I was speaking of expelling them. That might be a slow process and in the meantime they need to be held in custody as their expulsion is processed.
I would also argue that immunity from searches of the embassy is reciprocal and Ecuador has discarded their own immunity from such searches by their actions. Granted searching the embassy is not the same as detaining diplomatic staff, but Ecuador is in a poor place to complain.
