- The Perseid meteor shower is one of the best meteor showers of the year. It peaks on the night of August 11 and the wee hours of August 12, 2020. Meteors are often called “shooting stars,” but they’re not really stars at all. The Perseid meteoroid stream comes from the debris of Comet Swift-Tuttle (109P), which last passed the Earth’s orbit at the end of 1992.
Perseids are very fast, but these meteors are a bit faint, with few fireballs, so the best time to view them this year is in the evening before midnight, as the light of a Last Quarter Moon this year will obscure all but the brightest meteors when the Moon rises around midnight local time.

This is a great video, and even though it's about a specific meteor shower (Perseids) in 2020, it is a great visual representation and explanation of meteor showers in general.
Thank you for posting, great video! Now that the perseids are soon coming up again I'll have a better chance at catching them, just have to look at the constellation Perseus 😁
I hope you saw them at their peak yesterday, i had to see them today instead because it was cloudy in my area

This actually happened last year, so the short answer is nope! But in general meteor showers are nothing to be frightened of, just something enjoyable to see in the night sky.
Comets are small and not harmful
It's gonna happen right now, you can enjoy it watching today
