The LaLaurie Mansion is considered by many to be New Orleans
most haunted house, and even rumoured to be cursed.
Subsequent owners have suffered death,
insanity, and financial issues.
Does Delphine still fiercely claim rightful ownership?

What a fantastic story and way to go pronouncing all the difficult words and names!!! Thank you so much for continuing to do stories, love to listen to your voice!! Thank you!
Although the story was wonderfully told by you,Oddie,I found the woman to be evil. I can never stomach the abuse and torture of anyone. However, I do enjoy your stories and am a devoted fan.
Awesome video as usual ❤ I just bought 2 49 Fords and thought about your video and correspondence with the man who supposedly had Ed Gein's 49 Ford...
Did anything ever come of that?
I have heard this story SOO MANY times and never once have I heard such in depth accounts or facts of her life. ALWAYS well done. ALWAYS well researched!!!
I agree, I learned facts I’d never heard!
Ha! I just wrote the same sentiments. I lived down the street on Royal...and couldn't find out anything about her.
I really appreciate that. Thank you :)
Me either, this make me appreciate his channel even more

people were enraged by the mistreatment of the slaves but STABED the INNOCENT Horses!!! WTF? Humans are Disgusting.
Yeah, I was really mad about that too. But I guess most people at that time didn't really see animals as living beings but as objects instead so in their twisted minds they probably thought they were only destroying her "property" not killing innocent living beings 🙄
@@isadoramoon7521 😢 I love 🐎
It caused me physical and emotional pain to hear this. 😭
That broke my heart also, why stab the poor horses. Humans are terrible.
* stabbed
this is the best version of the story. Delphine was a spritirually defunct woman who harbored internal hatred toward her slaves. She probably hated her african blood and took it out on her poor servants. Poor little Lia.
Much appreciated, thank you kindly!
This. How dreadful for your only value to be tied to a man compounded by placage. I wonder if she loved any one of her "husbands".
Southern Europeans, many of whom are visibly part-Moorish, initiated the transatlantic slave trade. As a free slaveowner of mixed blood, Delphine had a lot in common with these Mediterraneans, and was clearly black in name only. Her treatment of her slaves was very similar to the manner in which slaves were originally transported to America. Especially with the shackles and iron collars. She was always mindful of the purpose for which blacks were brought to America, and when she felt that blacks were straying too far from this purpose, she deemed it her duty to reign them back in again. The moral of the story is that it is necessary to bend Meghan Markle over, and rip her back to front with a butcher knife.
@@evelynzlon9492 ?! Some moral!
@@evelynzlon9492 so much misinformation and then the violent filth at the end. Something is wrong with you.
I certainly do not need any contest to watch your channel. Its quality and entertainment value stands by itself. You are a great story teller. Always love your videos.
I appreciate that!
That rain made a nice touch...🤗
I personally think the slaves put" something" on it.Restitution.Revenge.🤔
I took a "haunted tour" through New Orleans back in 2004 and they go by the old LaLaurie home. I recommend taking a haunted tour if anybody is going to New Orleans in the future!
From 2010-2017 when I lived down the street on Royal, it was never open to the public. I don't know why.
Same
@@SisterSherryDoingStuff We couldn’t go in it, just by it. It’s been a private residence for a long time.
Took my kids to New Orleans this past august and did that ghost tour and we saw this home. I also recommend going on a tour like that when there. I guess Nicholas Cage owned it at one time.
@@SisterSherryDoingStuff when I lived in NO, on St. Ann, I would walk my dog down past the house. He hated walking past this house. He knew evil was there. He also didn’t like walking past slave alley. When I moved, pre Katrina, it was apartments. I don’t know how anyone could live there. Ever.
This story is interesting and more than a little disturbing. The bloopers are fantastic! Smells like teen spirit 😂
Lol Glad you enjoyed the bloopers 😄
I have read about LaLaurie and seen her included in videos of haunted places. But I hadn't read or heard anything about her background. I was disappointed to hear that the tortured slaves were taken to jail and not to a hospital. And I was peeved that they were on display for 4000 disgusting people to gawk at. In my opinion, they were still being tortured by the creeps who made a sideshow out of them. However, I still enjoyed your video. Thank you very much.
Many happenings in the past were cruel and distasteful. You cannot use modern attitudes to judge or change the past. The tortured slaves could have been medically treated. Putting them on display was extremely cruel. But I wonder if that was done to turn community rage towards the Madame. Apparently that worked - as the mob destroyed her home and she fled, living in exile. There is so much evil that has befallen peoples of the world for centuries. If history offends you please don’t expose yourself to it. This was an interesting, amazingly well done historical presentation of an influential family. As grim as it may be.
@@katie195, history doesn't offend me. Since a hospital wasn't mentioned, I can only comment on what was mentioned. Putting humans on display for looky-loos is disgusting, no matter what year it is done.
I agree poor things its sickening poor things
@@katie195 very true
Of course you can. Torture any injustice was, is and never will be acceptable.
Don't forget the settings 'cogwheel' allows to to watch this video in higher resolutions!
Difficult for La Laurie to still claim ownership .............from Hell.
i love the way you present your tales. Your voice is so soothing and your research is flawless. The commentary at the end, including bloopers, is often my favorite part because you are such an entertaining person! Thank you for continuing to post videos on here for those of us that are unable to make the commitment to follow you onto other platforms yet-you are a spot of light in an otherwise bleak landscape. Hoping your holidays have been wonderful-with much love, from California, USA ❤
That is very kind of you and it really makes my day, that my efforts are so appreciated - I thank you sincerely.
I swear you and Mr Ballen are the only channels that do history any justice ..and don't put me to sleep... every other channel either doesn't do their full research or have the annoying monotone readings..so please keep at it..we need more truth less exaggerated stories..👏👏👏❤❤
Thank you so much for reaching out with your kind feedback 😊
I adore your videos and all the time it must take to apply the special effects. Really brings the story to life.
I appreciate the appreciation Dee - thank you!
For seven years I lived down the street at 804 Royal. I would pass by the house several times a day...but during those 7 years, it was never opened to the public. Nicolas Cage owned at some point. I became more interested because it wasn't open...and then, American Horror Story: Coven, filmed outside of the home, and Delphine LaLaurie was a character on the show. Kathy Bates played Delphine, and she's an amazing actress. AHS took an even darker turn with LaLaurie. This is about the time I would search for more information about Delphine. Your story is the most in depth I've encountered.
This is obvious speculation, but I believe Delphine was cruel, and had resentment towards all the women of color, and her siblings of color that were inheriting her father's money. Fascinating, gut wrenching story. I wish we knew more.
Thank you so much for reaching out with your kind feedback 😊
Omg, her street name was literally Royal? I've been suspecting that Meghan Markle is the reincarnation of Delphine LaLaurie. Meghan resembles Delphine in personality, physical appearance, and social standing. Both women were good at hiding this, but bad press about both of them eventually leaked out. In Delphine's case it was her psycho brutality; for Meghan it's her prostitution.
Many statesmen around the world have had a taste of Meghan's little nasty behind. And at some point in the future literally.
As I have told you before, we visited New Orleans recently. We toured one of the old plantations which has more slave information and a museum. There is much art work, especially metal statues, depicting slaves, etc. Including the slave war. Unbelievable what people are capable of doing to those whom they deem lesser than themselves. I hope things like this help us never forget. I believe I have seen this house as well.
Beautifully done, as always, our Oddie Beau. My heart breaks for the poor people she "owned", and hurt so badly.....if she did indeed do this, I hope she is being dealt with for it in the next life, for she was never held accountable for it in this world. Your work here is exquisite...keep them coming, dear Oddie Beau.
Thank you my friend for your very kind feedback, despite it being a disturbing presentation.
I appreciate the wonderful compliment 😊🙏
I just heard of Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie from having seen the entire Coven season of the series American Horror Story for the first time. I read that she was based on a real person, but I had no idea just how much of the story was actually true! Right down to the daughters, her marriages, and the torture of people of colour that she owned as slaves. Granted, the true story takes a much different turn than what they did for the series, with her escaping to France rather than what was done in the show, but wow!
Thank you, Oddie, for being such a fountain of macabre historical knowledge. :)
Have you done or thought of doing an historical feature on the Titanic? I know the subject has been covered many times over the decades, but I'm sure there are many unusual stories related to the Titanic that never make it into the many documentaries and features that have been done about it in the past. Not to mention that they don't have that classic Oddie Beau flair.
Thanks for your kind words , that's so nice of you.
Hey Oddity!! Always a pleasure to hear the history u bring! If u can watch the movie The St. Francisville Experiment.
I have actually seen this mansion a few times, and it carries a dark energy about it to this day. Nicholas Cage bought it some years ago, but could never sleep in it overnight. As always, you told this dark tale beautifully. She was in no way at all a good woman…even for her own time, and broke the laws regarding treatment of slaves in her State. Wishing you and Odette a beautiful and joyful winter Solstice.🖤🇨🇦
Edit: I should have known you would have gotten the Nicholas Cage story in here. There are a lot of places in New Orleans that have spiritual activity associated with them. It is a very interesting city to visit and stay in the old quarter. I actually love the vibrancy and history that is everywhere there.🖤🇨🇦
I can imagine it would have a dark energy my friend, considering what has went on within its walls. No doubt other dark entities have been attracted by that energy. I can’t imagine a peaceful nights sleep being had in that residence.
Wishing you the same bright blessings my friend, I’m glad to hear from your last communication that the energy is starting to clear now. Wishing you both nothing but love and light. ☀️
@@ObsoleteOddity it would seem that no one else can imagine a good night sleep there either. Apparently there were slaves quartered under the sidewalk, all of whom died from lack of oxygen, it really was awful, even if you discard the worst of the tales. On my last visit to NOLA, we stayed in a place that had been a bordello, and that was an uneasy night I can tell you.. the energies are palpable to even the least sensitive visitors. A lot of life, death, and drama was packed into a very small area over a lot of years.
Richard and I SO look forward to travelling again, and visiting that lovely French chateau with you both…it would be nice to get time to really talk about these things without the constraints of time. The days of travel will return…we must just be patient in the meantime. We have had our first snow of the season last night, and I can’t say I am delighted, but I do burn a candle for you regularly sending all good things your way. We have sold The Occult Shop to our manager, and finally retired from the daily grind of running a business since early 1979. That should make many things easier in the coming years. We will make it happen. I am working on another two scripts for you, so don’t be surprised when one shows up in your in box… one is the lobster man, and the other a topic I think will appeal to you. My stalker let slip that she was doing magic for me every day, and a lot of things became instantly clearer, I have put a stop to that you can be sure. Life, light, luck, and love.🖤🇨🇦
I do hope there are no poor tortured souls left remaining in that house, perhaps it is negative entities taking advantage of that distressed energy. Or perhaps there are some still remaining who are bent on revenge.
Many years ago my sister rented a very old building for her business, it turned out that in its history it had been a brothel - that place was incredibly haunted.
Absolutely looking forward to catching up again, yes my other friends who want to also join us there, were so disappointed about this worldwide situation, but I am confident like you are that it will eventually be over.
I am so angry that the stalker was trying to psychically attack you. I’m so glad that you became aware of that situation, and have rectified it. I’ve had the same thing happen, and sometimes it takes awhile to tune in to exactly who is doing it.
Using magic to negative ends is going to land that woman in very hot water indeed.
@@ObsoleteOddity She is not my concern anymore, since discovering the whole story and the extent of her predation she will be facing herself everywhere she turns. The brothel I stayed in was very much haunted as well. I think the LaLaurie mansion has become a magnet for negative energies, and it is likely that most of those who initially died there were freed by the initial destruction of the place. Much love 🖤🇨🇦

How do you feel about giving the shop up? Is it relief or sadness, I would imagine a bit of both?
Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, but now you know the reason.
Great video as always! I just gotta mention American Horror Story haha, Kathy Bates did a phenomenal job portraying Delphine LaLaurie in season 3. What an evil piece of work that lady was.
Yesss!!!! That is my favorite season.
Just keep in mind almost NOTHING in that show was true.
Very interesting! I'm glad to know some of the more lurid tales are untrue, as if the truth wasn't bad enough. It's honestly why I waited to watch this until I was in a mental space for it! One thing that is curious to me is that all the blame for this lays on her head and almost nothing on her husband. Her husband, the doctor, who would know intimately how to hurt people. The psychology of these two together reminds me of those parents who abuse one child, often to death, while sparing their other children for some unknown reason. I'm not saying Delphine isn't responsible, but we almost never hear anyone equally accusing her husband.
This was very interesting. I was born in New Orleans and have heard of this place and its history as well as this woman. I would say if the location is haunted it's not by her but by all those she killed.
Agreed...
There are reports of her haunting the house, along with those she killed. It was even used to house Jews after WW2, reports of her stuffing socks into the mouths of crying infants.
Hi Oddie my friend. I haven’t been watching very much recently. My mother passed away suddenly. I am completely devastated and barely functioning. And alone. Trying to find a reason to keep going. I needed your familiar voice. This story is so brutal, which, despite everything happening now, makes me thankful for not to have those horrific experiences. Thank you Oddie🖤
I’m so sorry to hear that Deirdre, you have my sincere condolences.
I know what it’s like and it does take time to get over - I do know you will be reunited one day, and your mother would want you to continue. Take care and stay safe my friend.
@@ObsoleteOddity oh Oddie…it is so hard. And I’m alone, completely alone with this. Overwhelmed. But yes, l have faith and l will find a way to continue. Mum loved your videos, she loved that I’m a member of your Patreon, and she thought your voice was “rich and fine”. Thank you, you’ve given me a reason to smile that l haven’t had in ages❤️
I understand your grief, and it is even more difficult the fact that you are alone. The beauty of the Internet means that if we wish we always have contact with people. There are lots of online communities to join and communicate with people.
But I do realise it is hard to reach out especially if you are grieving. Just remember that everything comes to pass - and death is as natural as birth. Talk to your mother, she can still hear you and she may even give you a sign to let you know she’s okay.
Oh Dear Lady, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother. I lost mine 4 years ago. I don't think it gets any easier but we do manage to find a way to adapt to the pain. Everyone talks about One day at a time but just take it one minute at a time and then one hour. Know that you are not alone and that she would want for you to go on and live life fully. She must have been an extraordinary woman to inspire such depth of feelings. Stay strong and persevere. ~ Veronica
So very sorry for your loss, especially when you are close to a parent. Lost my Mum and completely understand. You’re grieving and it hurts. Please be kind to yourself, your mum would want that for you! If you have friends and family that you trust, find comfort from them. Be well, don’t neglect yourself. Your mum wants you to eat, sleep, rest. Might be too soon to reflect on past joyous times with your mum but that will come. Wish I could share a nice cup of tea with you, give you a hug.☕️🫖☕️
I love how the images move.
YEEEESSSS this is exactly what I needed this morning! Thank you Oddie !
You're so welcome!
Oddie is a bloody legend aint he 👍
Oh wow! I've grown up hearing this story told in many ways with us living so close to New Orleans. Every account I've heard seemed watered down compared to the details you included AND you have information on her actual death. Every story I've heard is that she completely disappeared after the raid. So awesome! Great job Oddy!
So glad you enjoyed the presentation - very much appreciated 😊
It may have been a couple of years since I last stopped by - life getting in the way of the day.
I used to put your stories on and go about the chores, your stories making the time at those chores fly by. This story did not disappoint. As always, thank you.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the story, thank you very much for reaching out with your positive feedback.
This is fabulous video Oddy! I only knew about Madam LaLourie from American Horror Story. Thank you for setting the record straight. A magnificent visual history of the poorly known story. Thanks again!
I really appreciate your positive feedback - thank you very much :)
The way you pronounced those names so fluently were amazing! I KNEW there had to be an outtake for this because my jaw dropped listening to their pronunciations. Me trying to pronounce those names was an absolute no-go on my part lol. Great video as always, Mr. Oddy!
Yeah there were a few outtakes, believe me my tongue was doing acrobatics. 🤣
Thank you for your lovely feedback my friend 😊
Even if I’d heard a story 100 times before, when I listen to your telling I always learn something new. Thank you for your awesome work.

I love this channel. My favorite is the paranormal stories you have narrated. Please do more if you have any your holding on to!!! Pretty please?
Thank you so much, I appreciate that.
Yes paranormal stories are a constant on the content palette I offer. 😉
I suspect the hauntings are those poor people that were tortured.
Thank you so much for laughs with the pronunciation problem, and especially the squirrel at the end. I really feel that laughter is the best medicine. This story and the illustrations were done so well. Honestly, being able to pronounce the names of all the people in this story had to be difficult, so give yourself a pat on the back for that. Slavery was so wrong from the start. My heart goes out to all of them, they were treated and mistreated so badly. What a horrible person (dam, can’t remember her name), she became in life. Anyways, thanks for the story and as always, keep bringing them to us.
Glad you enjoyed it Jo, yes a bit of humour is good medicine after such a tragic tale - and once I start going wrong with a pronunciation, it just goes downhill from there. Lol 😂
Sadly slavery is STILL a thing.....there are so called "house slaves" in India and in certain arab countries. Most of those slaves are asians and people of African decent. They are horribly mistreated and even out right killed. It's sad that almost nobody talks about this afwul human rights crime.
Oddie this was one of the most interesting and engaging stories that I have ever heard. Your voice as well as your pronunciation is capturing.💫
I really appreciate that. Thank you :)
The bloopers at the end are really worth staying! Loved it! It's fun to ear you laugh! :)
I’m happy you enjoyed my little mental stumbles Marie 😄
Much luv Oddie
Thank you so much! 😊
I always enjoy your videos, and especially your commentary afterwards. This video was so interesting to me, as I have passed this LaLaurie Mansion on many occasions. The first time I came upon this place, I was certain it had an evil energy. I was walking by one night, and had a horrific experience. The next day, in daylight I went back to this place, and learned of its infamous reputation. I am often suspect of places that are toured for profit and touted as ‘haunted houses’ , but there is NO doubt in my mind that this place is a legitimately haunted. Years after my experience at 1140 Royal Street, my friend told me she and her husband stayed in a haunted property in New Orleans. I guessed the address, and she was stunned. 😂 she said she did not sleep, and reported hearing terrible sounds. I think she is brave for even attempting it. No way would I mess with that! Thank you again for this video. Your research and presentation is always so well done!
Your bloopers cracked me up too! ‘Havana..Havana.. Havana… lol! Now I have semantic satiation for that word too! 😂 Cheers!
Thanks for your interesting insights and positive feedback. much appreciated 😊
I subscribed to this channel long time ago, when there weren't more than 100k subscribers. I was amazed by the storytelling, the accent and the voice of this man/guy and the story itself. Thank you Oddie, you said it.... Children are more innocent, open minds, don't know how cruel a person, the world can be....if there is a spiritual, paranormal world, I believe children are the ones more susceptible to knowing, hearing, seeing, etc.
Mr. Cage doesn’t play with a full deck IMO…
Wow that was scary and a sad story too bad the same fate didn't happen to her as what happened to her slaves seems like somebody got off too easy what you put her poor slaves through also you shouldn't own people so she deserve the worst good scary story mr. Oddity thank you for sharing
The locals started hearing screams of “help us!” Coming from under the house. They were too scared to look under the house.
It is believed Mdm locked her slaves under the house as it was burning.
They were killed to keep them silent.
The mansion was built on a concrete slab. No one was kept underneath the house. Her slaves were kept in the slaves quarters behind the mansion. The attic was used as a punishment/torture room. As of today, the mansion is empty.
Have a wonderful day Oddie Beau ❤️

Strange that all of the subsequent owners of the LaLaurie Mansion have suffered one sort of tragedy or another in their lives. Although Madame may have whipped her slaves if they did something unacceptable, I suspect it was her husband who was responsible for the actual torture of them. How would she have been physically able to tie or chain them up to the attic rafters?
Enjoyed this & the bloopers ... *TY Oddie* 👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks for your positive feedback Tiffany, I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙏
I love those animations you do for a lot of the portraits and illustrations. It makes the people and times more personable. From what I've seen here, I suspect that her third husband got the torture started, then she joined in or at least allowed it. Considering her social standing, I think she could have stopped the abuse if she wanted to do so.
I tried saving "off the shores of Havana" several times, too, and it does throw your voice off for some reason! The words just don't want to flow together!
Glad you enjoyed my little edits, thank you 🙏

I appreciate your great feedback Tasha, yes I think the bloopers alleviate such a haunting tale - and once I get started I can’t stop. Lol 😂

As much as this was a terrible time in US history, there were good people who were disgusted by this kind of behavior!! They reported it, they investigated, they knocked down doors and finally ran her out of town and destroyed the mansion. Not everyone of that age were monsters and victims, we must always remember there also have always been good people.
Absolutely, and thank you for pointing that out - you seem to be the only one in the comments section to recognise that fact. There has always been good and bad people in history, regardless of their skin colour.
Thanks Oddie❤
Thanks Lana 🙏
