- This is a very hard post for us. Nala our beautiful Kelpie x passed away on Sunday 22 October 2022. She has been a massive part of our lives for the last 6 years since she was a puppy and a lot of you have watched her as we share our journey moving off grid. So young!
How it happened is a hard to explain freak accident. She was chasing the ball, running flat out when she crashed and tumbled. Somehow her spinal cord was damaged rendering her back legs paralysed. Her front legs had very little feeling and movement. She had no control of her bowel. The vet said there was little to nothing they could do other than ease her suffering.
I created this video in memory of a precious dog and friend. A dog that will be missed so much by all that knew her, especially her beloved family.
Rest In Peace Nala: I am looking forward to when we can play again in our Fathers Heavenly Kingdom some day.

Bloody sorry for your loss. Anyone who has had a dog and lost a dog will feel for you both. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes thinking of the pain you are in and remembering the same pain I felt for each of my dogs that I have lost. They never ask for much but give endlessly and make our lives whole. At least Nala knew who was a good girl.

Jesus, mate. I lost my best mate a few weeks ago, so it's still fresh. He was a rescue, but I'm not sure who rescued who ultimately. He brought me out of a bad place and helped me come a long way back to being a civilised human again. There's no words that really do justice to the loss of such a companion. All I can say is don't let it stop you getting another dog some day. They're worth their weight in gold.
All dogs go to Heaven.

A sad day for you all. She was doing something she loved to do and she knew you would look after her. Saying goodbye to a loving pet is one of the hardest things to do in life. I feel for you and the family, Scott. I'm on kelpie X number 3 and the I know about the hole that's left when they go. Hold on to the memories of those thousands of days and nights of love and laughter. The sudden, sad ending was just a tiny part of Nala's great life.

Those damn dogs! Nothing in this world can be more loyal and forgiving as your side companion but so short their lives are. Is this some trick that is played on us, it's just not fair. This is the exact date but 12 years ago that my dog passed away. I still miss her, raised her for 18 years.
I have nothing smart to say about griefing on a loved pet, everyone deals with it differently, i tried to remember her good days and fun times and be thankful for that, rather than dealing with her death and the void.
Nala always looked happy and joyful, you gave her great 6 years.

My deepest sympathies and condolences Scott, I went through it back on the 1st July, when my fur child who would have been 15 this month, suddenly lay down and decided that life had gotten too tough to handle. He had terrible Arthritis and had been deteriorating a lot this year to the point for the day or so before he died he would be yelping when trying to get off the floor or in the first few steps after he managed to get up. Unfortunately, the vets here in Thailand mostly won't put an animal down because of their live and let live Buddhist beliefs. I actually brought him back to life twice during his lifetime, once when he was stung by what the vet said was probably a scorpion or millipede sting when he was just a few months old and again a year or 2 ago when, from what my daughter said she saw, he may have had a heart attack. But anyway he's a rest now and even now a few months down the track, it has brought a tear to my eyes while I type this.

Scott, it’s such a big thing bringing an animal in to the family, because they become family. It’s such a painful loss and not everyone will understand it. An animal is just another child you nurture and put lots of time into, it brings you joy and and lots of memories, some of them not so funny but you will look back and laugh even at the not so funny ones, once they are gone.
I hope Nala is running free now in the next life that awaits her, chasing the roo’s and the other animals she will meet.
I’m sure your paths will cross again and she will always be in your thoughts.

So sorry, I have two beagles and they are my children. The loss of a family member is the same hurt. Give it some time and just know you were a good responsible pet owner and she was happy because of you and how well you cared for her. Get another dog after some time and raise he/she in the same light. RIP Nala God Bless You.
