What is Project Treble for Android?

  • Google has launched a new way of updating Android OS(Operating System) starting in 2018 called, "Project Treble". Basically, with Project Treble, there is another layer of operating system which separates the manufacturers' add-ons from the actual Android OS. Now, for the Android root and custom ROM world, this also means that you will be able to install GSI(Generic System Image), similar to a custom ROM, but it is not device-dependent and the user will be able to install GSI onto any Android device that supports Project Treble. • @MrAhmedamrazzam
    @MrAhmedamrazzam Před 6 lety

    There are 2 steps of software modification:
    1. for hardware compatibility
    2. for OEM custom skin
    project treble separates those 2 layers so it eliminates step 1 completely... so the stock Android image for that hardware is available almost instantly.... and for the official OEM update it eliminates the first step and they just have to work on their skin not the entire compatibility of the phone....
    So it could cut the time Samsung takes to update their software in half... and it is much easier for developers to create custom ROMs

    This video just sold me on the one plus pro vs pixel 4 lol thanks to gsi / any better phone that support gsi like this super helped me witha purchasing decision I've been making long story short you just killed a galaxy anything and the one plus allowing unlock bootloader's really caught my ear . I'm a iOS user who has always had a slight interest in Android and I'm about to hop ship due to my changing philosophy on how software should be and how iOS just isn't that I don't like being put in a garden and told what to do and I like Android openness but I value software updates and didn't want to take off the shackles of apple to be under Google's heel for software updates lol and custom ROMs and this project treble SCREAM FREEDOM.

      Android P is coming out on the S8. This at least gives us a small chance that treble is supported (Sammy may be too lazy to implement it)

    • @W1nt3rR
      @W1nt3rR Před 6 lety +3

      Gabrielus It is not "Samsung is being lazy", It is actually very easy to implement project Treble to any device running Oreo and up. The problem is when there isn't a specific partition for /vendor stuff. You have to Repartition your device, which can be very risky because the phone may not even boot after that(Hard Brick).
      Although some devices have gotten Unofficial Treble Support, they use some other partition that isn't used much or at all. In S8's case that might be impossible because it already would have happened.

    So, let me be sure if I understand it correctly. Regarding custom ROMs and project treble, flashing a custom ROM won't be any different, I mean, take backup, wipe, clean flash and all.. The difference project treble is gonna make is that new custom ROMs won't be device specific and if I have project treble enabled device, I don't have to wait developers to develop custom ROM particular to my device? Did I understand it correctly?

    I really like the Note series especially my N9 but Samsung really needs to do something about Touch Wiz! You mean to tell me that with all of the intelligent tech coding minds around the world they can't find someone to create and make a Note that is pure Google with the all of the Note features without loosing any features. Something has to change somehow. I Guess they are to invested in the crating their own ecosystem with SmartThings and Bixby. I'm okay with that but they really need to focus on one thing at a time and make it better, such as Bixby AI. I'm not sure what happened but Bixby 2.0 on my N9 is dumber than then when I had it on my N8. Now how did they go backwards? Sorry for the rant my Squirrel-tic-u-li-tus kicked in!
