My top recommend is definitely a timer (smart timers are great because they can usually be set to turn on/off at your local time’s sunrise/sunset!) Any light sources should be put on a timer to allow the gecko to have a proper and regular day/night light cycle! I feel it helps my lil guy a lot. He always can be spotted out from his snake plant sleeping spot (looking for food) soon after the light shuts off every night!
YESSSS THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED! I am planning on getting a crested gecko VERY VERY soon and I have watched your crestie videos before, however this was VERY helpful sense i know its not outdated!!
Thank you for making this video! You have no idea how useful this would have been for me a few years ago. I did a lot of research before I got my crestie but I didn't find any good information about their lighting requirements, most saying they only needed some light in day to help their day/night cycle, and from what I saw I thought they needed less space than they do. I think the bioactive setup I made for him was really good but I now think that it is a bit too small and needs some better lighting. Thanks to videos like yours I'm now planning to upgrade him to a tank that's bigger and has a screen top so I can add a uv light. I really think this video could help out a lot of people who are trying to do the research to know how to give their future pets a good life.

Think overall this is a great kit, the only thing I'd look to change is to opt for a halogen bulb (on timer) instead of the deep heat projecter, mainly as the type of infared is able to penetrate deeper into muscle tissue and it also provides UVA

If you are converting a 20 gallon long fish tank into a tall gecko tank how far above the tank should the light be mounted? I'm concerned about the top getting too hot. Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated
I use a red heat lamp connected to a temperature gage for climet control but shes right beside a window so I let the sun be the day night cycle for her. Her name is Sadie and shes all about her snacks
Get rid of the red light, they disrupt their day/night cycle when used at night. Make sure no direct sunlight enters the tank as it can cause it to overheat. I’d use a low wattage regular heat lamp during the day (connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat). UVB would be beneficial as well.
@@nightinggale6470 I have two thermostats in her tank with one being directly linked to my phone so it wont overheat ever. My leopard gecko dies on the 1st on December and I was thinking about getting a crested gecko instead of another leopard gecko ,btw I had him and I still have his girlfriend and his 2 girls and their boyfriend
@GeckGamer I just saw some of your videos. Instead of getting another gecko, it would be much more worthwhile to have better care for your other geckos don’t you think? Also how old was the gecko when it died, and I’m sorry for your loss.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be keeping them on AstroTurf. It's not weird that your leopard gecko was trying to dig, she should have a proper substrate.
Great video! I have a quick question if that's alright: I have a 30x30x60 (tall) exoterra enclosure for my 4 month(ish) old crested gecko. I bought the gecko two weeks ago and I am not entirely sure yet how to do it with lighting/UVB. I use the compact light armature from exoterra, with a 13 watt UVB (5%) bulb, but the issue is the heat it emits. This is the lowest wattage I can find here (in the Netherlands), and the temperature at the top of the tank easily reaches between 27 and 28 degC if the lamp is on. I also use a USB fan like you suggested, and it's blowing on the outside of the tank to cool it off. The temperature remains then around 26 degC, but I think it's still too high. What could be a good solution to this heat issue in regards to the UVB requirement they have? Constantly run a fan? If the fan is blowing down in the enclosure (through the mesh), won't the enclosure dry up very fast, as well as increase the chance of respiratory issues for the gecko? I feed three types of complete Pangea diets and crickets (not dusted) so it should get the vitamins (especially D) and calcium it needs, but the gecko won't utilize this fully unless it has UVB, so replacing the UVB with a low wattage LED doesn't seem like an option either. Any thoughts? :)
My Pumpkin loves the Fig and Insect flavor of Pangea, not so much the apricot. He won't eat as much of the Apricot as he does the Fig and Insect or Watermelon ones.
Sorry 8ve found this super helpful but one question. Do I need a uvb and led light. Is that two separate lights? Trying to do my research and prepare along side my son as we know ill be doing most of the important care stuff.
Hi I just got my first crested gecko and I’ve been doing a lot of research but no one really has the same answer. Right now mine has a daytime blue light and a uvb light. Should I turn both of those off at night? Or just one?

I have been informed that it could get burned soi was going to add mesh the the top of he inside of the tank. What are your thoughts on this. Thankyou, this video rearlly helped.
i had an idea for a setup. maybe you could take a 40 gallon breeder and add a divider in the middle, so you could have 2 setups for 2 different cresties in 1 tank (the only downside is that you would have to handle them through the top of the tank)
@@Cacrow20 the idea would be that the tank divider would basically make 2 setups out of one, so they wouldn’t have any interaction with one another. It would also be non see through.

hey my leopard gecko has something that looks like a small piece of goop or mucus under one of his eyes, he isnt squinting or anything like that but i dont know if somethings wrong or not, what do u think it is and what should i do
how often do you feed your gecko pangea and how of ton do you feed her bugs
I don’t think I’ll be able to get a monitor for heat so if it’s hot spray 3 times a day if cold should put heating on ?
What version of the Jungle Dawn should I use (how many watts) for my 90cm tall bioactive terrarium? (The soil takes up 15cm of the bottom of the cage so its basically 75cm tall) I have been trying to find out which one I should use but can't get the answer from anywhere... Thanks for the vid!
So at night the gecko should be basically in darkness like in the wild?
I'm looking at a crested gecko. And I have had a bearded dragon in the past. He was 16 when he sadly passed away. I would still call my self a beginner in the reptile trade. How should I go about handling and caring for my gecko?
Can you use a taint that has a screen on the front of it so when you put it horizontal, you just have to take off the screen in front of you
Great video! Could you please tell me the differences in case of owning a Gargoyle Gecko?
If you are converting a 20 gallon long fish tank into a tall gecko tank how far above the tank should the light be mounted? I'm concerned about the top getting too hot. Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated
you should create a brand. that sells starter kits, materials, bedding etc. i want a crested gecko but i have no idea how to start.
do you NEED uvb for a crestie?
As far as the red light goes I'll switch it out right away for a different kind for sure. I had red the red light was a good option but I don't want to take any chances. Thank you for the tip
Can we see a crested gecko tank tour please
What is lighting like for cresties?
Iv’e been planing on getting a crestie for a while so I did a lot of research and honestly I’m terrified of the heating.😥
I would recommend repashy food instead of zoomed most likely wont eat it.
Can I give them crickets with calcium powder instead of the powder food?
Can you do a juvenile giude.
What kind of drainage layers do you use?
My Pumpkin loves the Fig and Insect flavor of Pangea, not so much the apricot. He won't eat as much of the Apricot as he does the Fig and Insect or Watermelon ones.
Yeah the fig ones not too bad :)
HELLO I love ur Chanel and sorry to bother can I have a link on where to get calcium without D3 for my leopard gecko I’ve ran out lols x
I have a glass tank that I have attached a door onto, would it be okay for the heat lamp to be either rested on thr glass, in to tank or above the glass. I have been informed that it could get burned soi was going to add mesh the the top of he inside of the tank. What are your thoughts on this.
Thankyou, this video rearlly helped.
also how do you hang them coconut hides for crested geckos
I did watch all your crestie videos before I got my Bayek. (Who still hates me btw xD)
i had an idea for a setup. maybe you could take a 40 gallon breeder and add a divider in the middle, so you could have 2 setups for 2 different cresties in 1 tank (the only downside is that you would have to handle them through the top of the tank)
Unfortunately a 40 gallon is only 18” high, and adult cresties need a minimum of 24” of height.
Never, EVER *EVER.* cohouse geckos.
@@Cacrow20 the idea would be that the tank divider would basically make 2 setups out of one, so they wouldn’t have any interaction with one another. It would also be non see through.
@@Geedy3 the minimum for a adult gecko is a 30gal one. You’d need a 60gal. Even then you shouldn’t.
i bought the thrive half moon tank but my crestie is a baby still. so should i get a bigger tank? i plan on eventually getting a crocodile skink to cohab the two but if this tank is too small ill have to get a bigger one
