      Agreed. I frankly like the fact he's foriegn and speaks primarily through an interpreter. For me, it adds to his mystique. He seems humble and magnanimous rather than boisterous and confrontational which, in my opinion, adds to his star power.

      ​@@Sanchito45 I think Shohei speaks English at a decent level. Mike Trout mentioned that Shoheis English isnt bad. Its likely he lacks confidence when it comes to speaking English to the public.

    I've never watched baseball. Now I'm on CZcams watching Ohtani pitch, hit, run, & smile for hours. I'm even considering going to rhe Angels Stadium to watch Shohei play with Ohtani.

    Lol.my first ever. Just to see Shohei. And I'm from the cook islands.!!! A little dot of a country at the bottom of the Pacific that has absolutely no interest in baseball, just rugby. Every day in glued to the internet to see what he does next and I'm so excited. That how amazing he is that he can reach me. Even I sense that history is being made. Awesome awesome awesome

    Houston fan here, and i never watched other teams’ game during the season. Even the postseason, I hardly ever with if the Astros is not playing. But with Ohtani, I make sure to watch his starts.

      Downside to that is pujols is still being paid 30 million this year by the angels. His contract will finally end after this season.

      @@cloudenvy_17 that is sunken cost in regards to Pujols so the bad news was when he signed the contact the fact the angels finally realized giving away at bats to more deserving younger players instead of the over the hill player who simply plays since he gets paid a boatload of cash letting go of Pujols enabled the angels to give enough at bats to two players who actually deserved it and earned all star births because of the additional at bats

    That's the big point I make when I talk to friends. He's not just "pitching" and "hitting". Throwing triple digit heat and hitting 500 ft bombs. I don't think people understand how damn hard that is to just do one of those things. You have to be blessed by God to do one of those things. A genetic lottery. And this guy does BOTH. That's special folks.

    He truly is revitalizing baseball. When you got all the national media outlets, including NON-SPORTS groups like NPR talking about him, you know he's doing something incredibly special. Even NFL network had some fun playing hypotheticals the other day about who could be a two-way player in football. Ohtani's a gift to sports

    I'm a sf giants fan and watch every game if possible. Never a homerun derby n all star game guy. Ohtani got me tuned into watching the all star game n the homerun derby which I never did before. My brother watching ohtani n he never watches. Ohtani is bringing a lot of fans to watch the game.

    At the beginning of the season I bought a hat and put Shohei signature and 17 on the side. Took my dad to go see him play. Yes, we know Trout plays here as well but he had just gotten hurt. I turn to my Dad and say “that’s ok, there’s still Shotime. If he doesn’t hit a Homer then we just missed it by a night”…He hit 2. It was insane.

    Gotta disagree with you on the whole HR Derby thing. That actually _is_ an event that a lot of people like tuning in to and is essentially no different from the NBA's slam dunk contest. It's basically just a fun event meant to be a complete service to the fans and, if possible, helps to generate more interest in the sport itself.

    Ironically, he's the best thing to happen to baseball since Ichiro Suzuki. To be honest, I'm not surprised. I've spent a lot of time in Japan and would frequently watch primary, middle, high school, college and pro baseball games. And one thing I noticed...the Japanese players are very fundamentally sound.
