First up is Musical Instrument Proficiency. This buff allows you to use musical instruments, and any character can acquire this proficiency by helping Alfira come up with a song in Act 1 within the Druid’s Grove. You can find her practicing on the south east end of town. You’ll need to pass two charisma checks in order to progress the dialogue and learn musical instrument proficiency. If you manage to do this, you’ll also get Lihala’s Lute as an additional reward for helping Alfira.
Act 1: Brand of the Absolute
Number 2 is the Brand of the Absolute. This is a permanent bonus that unlocks extra powers from certain items. These powers range from reducing all spell damage from spells by 1 from the Absolute’s Protector, Advantage on Death Saving Throws from the Absolute’s Talisman, a +1 bonus to Saving Throws from the Absolute’s Warboard, +1 Thunder Damage with Thunder Damage spells and attacks with the Ring of Absolute Force, and even inflicting Bane on melee hit from Gloves of Power. You can get this from Priestess Gut in the Goblin Encampment.
    Act 1: Loviatar’s Love
Number 3 is Loviatar’s Love. Loviatar's Love gives you a +2 bonus to attack rolls and saving throws every time your health drops below 30%. This is a pretty sweet buff considering if you’re close to death, you could probably use a little help. To get this permanent buff you’ll need to go to the Goblin Fortress and find an NPC called Abdirak, who worships Loviatar. He ask if you want to endure some pain and if you make it through all rounds of it by succeeding all the rolls, you’ll be rewarded with this buff. Also, a really cool trick with this is if you take off your armor before starting, this will add bonus modifiers to your rolls making the rolls easier to succeed.
    Act 1: Paid the Price
Number 4 is Paid the Price. Paid the Price gives you a +1 bonus to Intimidation Checks, but Disadvantage on Perception Checks. Also, you have Disadvantage when attacking Hags. To get this permanent buff, find Auntie Ethel in her Gnarled Teahouse in the Putrid Bog and proceed through dialog options until you have the option to ask her to remove the parasite. If you agree to her terms, you will receive this permanent condition. Also note that this not only gives you the buff, but also there is a cosmetic change to your character making one of your eyes look pale and certainly a bit off-putting.
    Act 1: Auntie Ethel’s Hair
Number 5 is Auntie Ethel’s Hair. Auntie Ethel’s Hair gives you a permanent +1 to an ability score of your choice. In order to get her hair you’ll need to attack Auntie Ethel and bring her to low health, but don’t kill her. Eventually a cutscene will begin and she will offer you a deal to spare her life, and in return, she will give you her hair which you can choose which ability score to improve. But be careful if you're an Oath of Vengeance Paladin because sparing the Hag breaks your oath so make sure that there's another party member close to her to make that person trigger the dialogue instead if you want to keep your oath.
    Act 1: See Invisibility
Number 6 is See Invisibility. See Invisibility allows you to see invisible creatures within 9 meters of you. The creatures must succeed a Dexterity Saving Throw or lose their invisibility. In order to get this buff you’ll need to save Volo from the Goblin Camp, and afterwords he’ll offer to remove the mind flayer tadpole from your head - claiming it’s just behind the Orbital Socket. But, instead of removing the tadpole, he removes your eye. But Volo being the good guy he is, replaces your eye with one that can see invisible creatures. It’s pretty amazing actually - you won’t need to cast Create Water to reveal invisible enemies when you can permanently see anything invisible using your new eye.
    Act 1: Forbidden Knowledge
Number 7 is Forbidden Knowledge. Forbidden Knowledge increases your Wisdom Saving Throws and Ability Checks by 1. This is from the book Necromancy of Thay.

Two things: Bards do not get Musical Instrument Proficiency from Alfira as they already have all musical instrument proficiencies from the class BUT WILL LOSE THE PROFICIENCY WHEN THEY SWAP CLASSES, So make sure whoever helps Alfira is not a Bard and never becomes one.
Regarding Auntie Ethel's Hair, it ALSO breaks the Oath of the Ancients (as Hags are Aberrations by the laws of nature) So it's probably better for the dialogue to just... not be done by a Paladin at all, since her hair is an item, not a dialogue-specific effect.

If you dont use it immediately and keep it in your inventory, the owlbear cub will actually eat it should you decide to feed it once it shows up in your camp for the first time. Probably a bug but nonetheless very annoying since you probably only notice it once its to late, like me.

Also on the Mirror of Loss, you can also get a permanent +1 to Charisma on top of the +2. After choosing a memory to sacrifice, you'll get a dialogue saying "Disappointment floods your mind. You were sure to succeed Stelmane, but Lord Enver Gortash has stolen your support. All that charming and cajoling in the parlous of the Upper City, Wasted". This one gives you +1 to Charisma and doesn't "satisfy" the mirror (lock you out from sacrificing another memory to try again) like the +2 bonus does

As someone else said, you can get a +1 charisma buff from the mirror as well as the +2. The way you do it is before you pass the religion check you select all of the options until you get it. it’s random you can get it on any of them, it’s important to do it before you pass the religion check because that is the only way to get both. You can take any buff for the +2, even charisma to get three total.
The only thing you need to make sure is that you have at least one left for your +2, because once you do one, you can’t do it again for that character. You’ll get a bunch of debuffs, but they’re just regular curses. I forget what the text is for the charisma buff but it’s always the same. You can do this with every character. I only had to save scum for one character I’m pretty sure.

So with potion of bloodlust + haste that's 3 actions a turn.
It's also important that with Ethel hair + mirror of loss you can get to 22 of any stat by only using 1 feat. (17 start + 2 feat + 1 hair + 2 mirror). Not just str, so you can a 22 charisma and 27 str paladin with str potion.

yeah, on other stats, that's what everyone does already. unless they don't get those buffs for roleplay purposes or because they still don't know about them. on strength focussed characters it's deffo a waste. you could have more stats overall. higher saving throws. higher chance to succeed in skill checks. higher chance to hit your spells if you have them. higher chance and damage if you use a ranged weapon with your fighter or whatever. higher init. the pros for the elixir instead of wasting stats in strength far outweigh the cons. every single point in strength is a waste of potential. especially for str based characters, as weird as this sounds. i couldn't believe it when i saw u can buy a 23 strength buff until long rest for a few coins as soon as you start the game. as many as u want basically because in theory u can long rest without using any food and steal the gold back everytime. it's nuts.

@@wruzzer I disagree, 1+ proficiency in strength (you get 1 point every 2 points invested into a stat) from 27 isn't as good as an extra action from bloodlust, even a elixir of Colossus that's gives you an extra D4 damage on damage rolls would be better than +1 proficiency. Even on a monk, with tarven brawler that would add +2 with the extra bonus.
I may be completely wrong here, because I'm not the sharpest tool in the box but as far as the game goes, I think action economy is king. Having 4 actions (action surge, bloodlust, haste) is just insane. 4 fire balls! Haha
I agree with the roleplay bit, it's up to the player to do whatever they think it's best, I love playing astarion as a bard simply because having him insult people with vicious mockering tickles my fancy haha.

you forgot about the other benefits you get from not having to invest into strength at all. a second stat on 22. so u got 2 stats above 20, that's a big boost. imagine a 27 strength, 22 con fighter. or a 27 strength and 22 dex with medium armor that lets you use your entire dex modifier for ac. with titan string bow that lets you add your str modifier on top of your dex modifier to it's damage. with sharpshooter and great weapon master feat, so he is deadly in melee and ranged combat. and since you can dump strength completely, u can put those points into int wis or cha for better saving throws and skill checks. i put them on my entire party for the jump distance and carry weight. why carry weight when u can send everything to your chest u may ask? carry around a billion corpses for my spore druid. spore. druid. is. busted. they have to nerf his animate dead spores. hard. u can cast it as often as you have corpses before a fight starts and the mushroom bois stay until they die or long rest.
oh, and u eventually will get a diadem that makes them resistant to physical damage if they are near you!
forgot about the ability to push everyone and everything around, since this is based on strength too. allows your gale to get out of melee combat for a bonus action if you can't use misty step because no spell slots available or whatever reason, maybe u dumped it for a different spell, who knows.
or carry around a bunch of barrels and other explosives and throw a backpack full of em into the enemies previously lured to a spot with minor illusion, a cantrip most classes can pick at the start of the game. boom. fight over.

Ok so the way you entered the Vaults was wild, I’ve got about 600 hours and I’ve done the vaults on every play through. But I’ve NEVER entered the Vaults that way.

Getting branded also causes negatives, but mostly in dialog when initially interacting with those who are enemies of the absolute. I usually have my tankiest companion take the branding to avoid the negatives.

Not truly a buff since it's a ring and an ability you get. Sylvania idol isn't permanent since if you leave the item behind it goes away so those don't fit into the title

@@Hyperice276conversely as long as it stays in your inventory you’re good so I’d say permanent

Note on BOOAL's Benediction - if you go back to camp with your player character and recruit a fourth character before talking with a kua toa to trigger dialogue with BOOOAL, you can get it on the newly recruited companion as well. Tested on honour mode, 01/26/2024

And the 1d4 radiant damage from the monastery!
Its a little iffy to get, but essentially:
Characters regain it when they long rest while not in the party.
So as long as you dismiss your entire party before going to bed, they'll have that extra d4 damage every day.
HOWEVER i'm not sure if its still working. Worked fine on my first two playthroughs, but not my most recent one. Either they patched it, or i did something different this time.

It works on mine, as long as I remove party after long rest and re-select them. Since I have this whole routine I go through with a hireling Wizard, it's actually not that big a deal to do.

There are also conditions to get when you make a sufficient donation in the act 3 temple of all the gods. I have no idea if each god grants you a different blessing. At the cost of 3k gold and 10 healing potions (and Astarion's disapproval), my cleric got permanent +2 to all saving throws from Kelemvor. If you're rich and don't mind losing 3-4k gold, I recommend going there to get a bonus. I don't know if it stays if you die, though.

Astarion can also get ascended vampire as a permanent buff. Not sure if Caz can give any other buffs. Someone said something about becoming a vampire, but I have no idea if that's true.

If you romance Astarion and let him complete the ritual he will offer to make you a vampire. This will just give you the vampire bite ability.

Would the eye you get from paid the price be removed if you got the eye from Volo? Like replacing it or something? If so would you keep the effects of the first eye along with the new one?

    • @thehorrorsilk
      @thehorrorsilk Před 5 měsíci +1

If you try to get both, either Volo or Ethel will tell you they can't do it because someone already messed with one of your eyes. You can switch to another character and have them get the other eye, though, if you want. You just can't have both on the same character.

Shadowheart has a unique factor with the Mirror of Loss depending on which variant she is.
Selune Shadowheart won't be able to use it at all, even if she passes checks.
Dark Justiciar Shadowheart can skip the checks entirely and simply receive a reward.
