    American here and one of the ones that pre ordered. I bought it because I am big fan of Vr and Ar technology, I already use Vr in my daily life for watching movies, youtube, or just browsing online. So I definitely know the great potential for this technology. When I saw the announcement for the apple vision pro last year I knew I had to get it and know I will use it in my daily life. Want to explore more the productive side of Vr and Ar. Actually do some work with it and really explore all the possibilities with this device.

      You must tell me what you think when you've got it, please. I am excited by the idea of watching gorgeous TV and film in it, but I'm hoping to figure out a reason to use it for work, that's what might make me buy at some point when I can afford it.

    I've been waiting for your perspective, William!
    Personally, I cannot justify the price for what seems to be, in its current form, a novelty.
    Though I so want to watch a film on a virtual mountainside...
    All the best,
    Typebiter

      You’d need it to let you do some work or some way of working that was clearly better than we have now and I can’t see it yet. But I fancy watching so many shows on it.

      The price won’t seem quite as bad if I suddenly need to replace my iMac. Which hopefully won’t happen soon even though it is nine years old.

    Well, I see now you were way ahead of me, but I should have known that. A 20-something friend has told me I just have to get into VR, he is a gamer. Then I asked him to come up with 3 reasons I should do this...he suggesting a device to buy that is inexpensive to get started. Bottom line, he could not come up with 3 reasons that he'd see I'd use it now. But he said just wait there will be reasons.

      I've had those conversations, too. To which the only sensible answer is uh-huh. With Apple Vision Pro, I can see that it would let me see a much larger, wider "screen" of my MacBook Pro which is handy for video editing. But I think we're at the stage computers were when the Mac first came out; nobody knew what anyone would use computers at home for. And ultimately the answer was everything.

      @@WilliamGallagher Angela would like this. My journal tells me on this date in 1987, I got my first computer. Jack bought it for me, he had one for a while, and I said I could not think of one thing I'd use it for that I could not do better with a typewriter. I just shook my head, and you probably did as well. We've come a long way....

    Reading and editing on this device is a fantastic take and something I had not considered. Great thoughts.

    In spite of myself, I somehow remain “on the fence” about picking one of these up. Recent software updates (currently in beta) have expanded the monitor capabilities and enhanced the overall UI and physical keyboard experiences (at least that’s what reviewers say), expanding the efficacy for we writers and our screen spanning/navigation/typing needs. Also, as an individual with disability, I’m even more tempted to justify the purchase as an accessibility device in lieu of not being able to get around. The device has now been released in your neck of the woods now, no? Have you had a chance to visit your local Apple Store to give it a test drive?

      @WilliamGallagher  Před 14 dny +1

      I have tried it, yes. It's amazingly impressive -- and yet I find I don't want one. The cost is the key barrier but I've also seen that there isn't a lot of Apple Vision Pro native work you can do, native apps and experiences. So it feels like it's waiting for tools to be developed.

    The thought of using the V-Pro for editing excites me. My eyes are getting old & weak, & many times I can't bring myself to look at another word onscreen, even though I'm still bubbling with energy to edit & write some more. I'm eager to get feedback from people using those VR glasses, as well as the V-Pro.

      Would you not just consider dictation? I'm not keen, I prefer typing, I need the keys under my fingers before I can really even think, but it might solve your problem.

    • @Meisha-san
      @Meisha-san Před 7 měsíci

      @@WilliamGallagher Like you, I also enjoy typing a lot. The creativity flows out of my fingers far better than when I dictate. In much the same way, I enjoy reading through my document when editing.
      Even though I have excellent text-to-speech software, I don't use it very often. 🙂

    Fantastic perspective. Also, have not known you to ignore too many (any?) Apple product launches. Interesting to see how Vision Pro is unfolding for you.

    I've been wishing for a long time to have something wearable that I could use to write with. I imagined it as something to use on the bus, but I'm not sure how practical the Vision Pro would be for that. Guess I'd have to try it out. Also, given its price, I might be afraid of being mugged on the bus and having it stolen.
    I suppose price is the barrier at this time. That's a lot of money for a wearable headset. But everything I've bought from Apple has cost more than I wanted to pay, so I might ask myself why this should be different. We'll just have to see how everything plays out.
    Thanks for the update.

      I remember, so long ago now, being self-conscious being on a bus and having a mobile phone. Maybe this is the same. But the one thing I didn’t like in Apple’s guided tour was when the fella was walking around. It just looked awkward somehow.

      @WilliamGallagher  Před 7 měsíci

      I was certain that I replied to this just now but CZcams says no. All I wanted to ask was what Mac or iPad tools you use for writing music.

    • @seattlevkk
      @seattlevkk Před 7 měsíci

      @@WilliamGallagher I use Logic Pro x. Just for mic recording I can use the iPad but the mac ( mini or air ) for more involved stuff. I'm hoping the mac integration with the vision pro means I can use my mac in ways I couldn't before. It's a wait and see. I've ordered one but may return it if the reviews turn out negative. And also sheet music - it may be a great way to have many pages of music up. For sheet music I use an app called ForScore

    Way too rich for my blood, but good on Apple in coming up with it and now all the first adopters, who are willing to pay through the nose, developing the applications and use-cases so that it delivers something like value for the rest of us. When all that hard work and tears are done, and the price is south of 20% of the current price, I'll be happy to take another look. Until then it's like an NVIDEA 4090...

    • @WilliamGallagher
      @WilliamGallagher  Před 7 měsíci

      Twenty percent of the current price. I'd have that. Wow: I knew price was a clear and obvious barrier for me, but even just suggesting a more specific lower cost just made me realise that there is a level at which I would snap one of these up. I have literally just scratched my head.

    Seeing the news that all Apple Vision Pro stock has been sold out online in 18 mins…..that’s a good sign for us, the doubtful and waiting crowd 😊
    Let the reviewers do their best to flood us with dozens of ‘reviews’ from beginning of februari and we will see how things go.
    I’m already 40 years active in ICT and I know if Apple puts so much energy in, for them, a new market segment…then if this new device will be accepted by the first buyers, then Apple will come out with a more budget friendly device that will be available in years to come.
    If it is accepted it will be the biggest change for Apple since the iPhone, if not…then it was a very good try to gain some market share.
    The simple question remains for me personally : what is for me the added value of spending so much money on again a new device that lasts for 2 hours on a battery… what will this device bring me on ADDED value?

      @WilliamGallagher  Před 7 měsíci

      Vision SE? I could go for that. Right now I’m not fussed about the battery life because I imagine I’d be using it at my desk and so plugged in. But I don’t know how constricting the mains cable is.

    I honestly can’t see a use case for me. Plus the whole facehugger aspect just doesn’t work for me. Perhaps a few generatrions down the road with something much smaller and lighter.

      It's hard. That's exactly what I thought before yesterday. And then when you see the fella walking around the room in the guided tour, I think no, that's just wrong. Yet at the desk or at the chair, I'm at least now tempted.

    I've never felt poor till I fully moved to the Apple universe, and it's getting worse every year. At least what hardware I buy works for a long time, that is, till the software outpaces it. Thanks MacOS 14, I'm talking to you here! I love my M1 MacBook though. But I now have a huge 6 year old iMac that its only purpose in life is a Plex server. A bit of a waste.

    • @WilliamGallagher
      @WilliamGallagher  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Plex is nice, though. I was using my last Intel Mac mini as a Plex server until I realised I could just hang the external drive I had off my current M1 Mac mini and it would work as well. I admit I'm eyeing up a Mac Studio but that could be configured to the same cost as a Vision Pro. But you're right about it all working for a long time: I am surprised to say that I have absolutely no interest yet in replacing my 2021 M1 14-inch MacBook Pro even though there have been many new versions of it since. Actually, I just had to check when I got it: this still feels new to me.
