  • The Apple Vision Pro isn't just another VR headset, and if you think it is you are underestimating exactly how much effort Apple put into developing a headset that can actually be a revolutionary computing platform that is just as capable and powerful as the Mac and as intuitive and revolutionary as the iPhone.

I’m old enough to remember when computers did not have GUI’s… instead you only had command lines and text and they were mostly only able to crunch numbers and do very basic word processing. When Apple introduced the Graphical User Interface they didn’t reinvent computers but they did revolutionize their functionality. The first field to really take off as a result was desktop publishing… Which was made possible because people could now use computers for paste up and layout. Maybe Vision Pro will be something similar: a new interface which allows people to use computers differently to do things they couldn’t do before.

People are thinking of this the wrong way. It’s not going to replace your iPhone. I’m not sure anything ever will unless they can shrink the Vision Pro down to the size of a contact lens 50 years from now. But it might replace your desktop/laptop, your home theatre and your game console. It’s not something to always carry around or wear passively. You put the Vision Pro on in order to do a specific activity just like when you take out your laptop to do some work or fire up your PlayStation to play a game.

The hand gesture being compared to Steve unveiling the main input method being fingers on the iPhone was spot on. Steve truly believed in the multi touch technology and even presented it as “magic” in the keynote! Tim clearly has the same feelings towards the hand gesture motion capture/eye tracking technology they have and he knows it’s only going to get better. Tim may not fully encompass Steve in terms of innovation, but every so often Steve’s spirit pops out in Tim and this was definitely it with Vision Pro.

You could even say the Apple watch was an industry changing device - of course, not to the same degree, but only shows that when Apple puts its mind into a specific industry, it's not to just to "be" there, but to change it, evolve it.

Wrong. You can literally look this up. They sold 200k, and all those will ship by the end of March. They are on track to make and sell 400k by EOY, and that is only because of manufacturing needs for materials not because of demand. They also only opened it up to the US. Mark my words this is the start of spatial computing adoption as the new standard. It will take time like smartphones but it will happen.

Maybe they had a few more at the start, maybe the monthly supply coming from the factory is a 10-20k units higher than I estimated, and maybe some orders at the very end of the line have early April estimates. 160k is within shooting distance of the rumored 200k mark and nothing I said is "wrong" by any stretch.

      @DrNoThanks Před 3 měsíci

Launch batch is first 7 days (they look specifically at having been able to deliver actual devices in purchasers' hands). It has always been that way for Apple and most tech companies sales data. Apple also released some numbers today stating that they sold over 200k pre-orders with about 100-120K shipping to customers and stores between 2/3 and 2/11, with the rest expected to be fully shipped by the First week of April. They will probably be able to produce another 250k-300k this year. @@mikemanzano5363

Finally someone understanding it, thank you Greg :) In my opinion it is a Pro Modell you should compare it to the Pro computers for the price range, which the Vision wants to replace sooner or later. But it will take a while for the mass market to accept it as it took at least 4-5 years until Smartphones really became a thing. The Vision (without Pro and cheaper) Glasses may come too. Now they want to revolutionize computers indoors. By combining terms like home office, TVs, a real „Metaverse“ inclusion in your own four walls and maybe even gaming (even if that’s not really an Apple thing so far). It has and wants to be just operating in VR.(As it just shows you your surroundings because of the cameras that’s only virtual or XR?)
AR Glasses will come but target something completely different, namely the outdoors and with that smartphones. The step inbetween is the Apple Watch maybe even in combination with AR Glasses. But that’s just what I’m thinking ✌

That's something that the people like. Controlers are not only input devices but output devices, and Apple has just lost that very important inmersive factor.
Don't missunderstand me, I would love it to be a success and I would surely buy the third version of this product, as I did with the iPhone and the iPad, and I concur with you that it needs some iterations too, but I just think that the abscence of controlers is a minus, not a plus, and a big minus IMHO.

I think the key on the technology side of the Vision Pro is not the M2 chip, but the R1 chip. This seems to be the Chip, that handles all the "spatial computing", aka it is responsible to track your hand movements and and streaming images to the screens. So the M2 really only does what any M2 chip in any MacBook does and the magic happens in the R1 chip.
And the price.... a refurbished Mac Pro M2 with 16 GB ram and 256 GB ssd is like 1200 bucks, then add two 4K monitors and basically another chip as capable as the M2 chip. Sadly, as far as Apple prices go, the 3500 for the VisionPro make sense in that framework.

This is not your std gaming VR headset at all but rather a tool for productivity (with entertainment). Just those micro-oleds are something I would pay for. I personally have been waiting for years to get one headset that could "really" let me watch movies at their best and something that would allow me to work... Vision Pro bring exactly that. Just the ability to use it as a hi resolution monitor, and being able to enjoy a movie experience better than any iMax is brilliant. Again, each person for his own. But definitely see its worth and thanks to Apple for bringing this to us. Not debating about price point being something not for everyone, but it will come down soon in a few years

    1. Samsung didn't give up on VR: they released the Samsung Odyssey and Odyssey +, and they will release a high end AR/VR headset at the end of 2024 (as a competitor of the Apple Vision Pro).

  •  Před 3 měsíci +1

Vision Pro isn't 3500, it is in fact more like 5.000, if you buy the version with a larger storage and some accessories. If you buy one, no one else in the same household can even use it, because you need special lens for each person if they wear glasses. Headset will be useless for any real game, because it lacks controllers. Too pricey for normal use = watching videos and photos. Bad and overpriced for real work plus your eyes / head / neck won't like prolonged use of heavy the heaset. You're just an hardcore Apple fan.

This is the first video I’ve seen where Apple Vision Pro is properly framed. Remove the “we’re going to change your life” hype (has to be) from Apple. All their marketing material gives me the cult-creep vibe. But I’m in the ecosystem, because for me it works. Apple Vision Pro is the first chance AR/VR is going to have at mass market lifestyle product adoption. If anyone has the cash, patience, and influence to make that happen it’s Apple. Not because they’re better than other companies and their products, but because they have the monster cash required to play the long game and are pretty good at identifying the technical aspects required for an elevated user experience. Personally, I hope this expansion of their platform offerings and higher bar for device specs/performance opens up the market even further so Meta, HTC and all the others have a less risky market to invest in and then we all benefit.

As a professional user, the question Apple hasn’t answered for me is: how does the Vision Pro improve my workflow? At this point, there isn’t an answer for that. The Apple Vision Pro can’t do anything, that I can’t do already. Sure it can display 3 additional monitors, but do I need them? Maybe it’s just that Apple didn’t do a good job of communicating their vision, but I don’t see how this can actually improve my workflow. So it’s just another fancy VR gadget that would end up collecting dust on the shelf after using it for a couple of times…

None VR improve your workflow, unless you have a very specific need for 3D design or simulation (car design for example). 3 physical monitors would always beat virtual monitors, unless you need 3 monitors for 30 minutes a day at a time. Apple itself will be telling you to take frequent breaks and use it only for a limited time.

There will be ways that "spatial" capacity will open up major doors in organization for your tasks. Our minds are built to work in 3D, not in 2D, and while we're seeing 3 or 4 screens in the demos, there's no requirement for the interface to be in "screens" at all, except familiarity. The dinosaur demo they've showed off is also kind of an example of this device as more than a "movie theatre" ... yes, we've had 3D movies in theatres, but with this device you could literally have the screen expand around you and have the action going on all around you. It's only a matter of time before a revolutionary film takes full advantage of this. It's early days, still, but there will be ways that that "spatial" aspect makes every task you work on more intuitive and organized.

The apple vision pro is simply just the starting point, the price and specs is just to show How Pro models will be priced
The current vision pro is the standard going forward... I do not think there will be Glasses
I think its all about the goggles or headset approach
the next pro model will just have the next chip that is part of the higher tier ex M3 max or M3 ultra or M3 pro and possibly introduce a Pro R chip
I believe their full line up by the 3rd generation would be something like this:
Apple Vision Ultra - M4 ultra, R3 pro
    Apple vision Pro - M4 max or M4 pro , R3 pro
Apple Vision Studio- M4 pro or M4, R3 pro
    Apple Vision Air - M4 , R3
    or
    Apple Vision Se - M3,R2
    Apple Vision Ultra - $4200
    Apple vision Pro - $3500
    Apple Vision Studio- $2500
    Apple Vision Air - $1700 - $2000
    or
    Apple Vision Se - $1500
Apple Vision Ultra - Extra Button, water resistant, swim proof, More outdoor specs, haptics, internal battery (2hrs)
satellite, recreational dive features, hiking assist)
Apple vision Pro - Extra Button, water resistant, More outdoor specs, haptics, internal battery (2hrs)
Apple Vision Studio - standard, Internal battery (2hrs)
Apple Vision Air - standard, internal battery (2hrs)
    or
Apple Vision Se- previous model standard, no internal Battery (2hrs)
    The same:
    all to have cellular use
    Better Siri
    imessage with shared space features
external battery won't go away because it will act as a longer battery time even when they figure out an internal battery
Air or Se part: there is an or here because it is not necessary for a 5 models but rather the fourth model has to be reasonable enough that it is entry level for those who want to buy in.
I would prefer a Air model over an se model because the way apple treats se models are like models that are slight improvements of a previous model within that product line. I also believe an air model will allow them to keep the hardware to be more uniformed with there other higher tier models as they improve this year over year although I would prefer biannual but with apple they most likely make a new one every year if the second gen line up pays off.

It doesn't have USB-C ports or slots for microSD cards etc. Also, even with the 1TB, eventually that will fill up too, then what, you gotta use Apple Cloud? Also, we all know that to be efficiently productive, nothing has come along that beats a mouse/trackpad and keyboard.

I cant wait for this product to get better, right now its not much better than a quest 3 really in terms of experience. They really need to make these things smaller, I am using the VITURE XR glasses right now and they are as light as normal sunglasses... once VR is in that form factor it will get better... we have tried to bring back 3d many times and it always dies because no matter how cool the experience people dont want to wear them.. and then there is eye problems and being blind in one eye etc which impacts the experience..
the great things is with the new iphone you can take 3d spatial video, and it can be exported to standard 3d footage... and its GREAT. So already 3rd party companies are starting to adapt and support spatial video so Im happy to see 3d still on life support... stereo is one of my favorite hobbies so I cant wait for glasses-free 3d to become more popular.. I already own all the public devices and they are adapted for spatial 3d photos and videos already. It always takes apple to bring it out and do it right for everyone to follow, so hopefully they can do that with VR and 3d.

    • @sobeso
      @sobeso Před 3 měsíci

@@joelface The "Puck" for apple would be for battery based on how they made this headset they will most likely make room for internal battery in the future for at least 2 hours and keep the puck for the same 2hrs or more and then all day will be plugged in. Vision Pro with battery same 1.5 pound and the external battery to stay at 0.7 pounds.
Currently without battery weighs 1.5 pounds. so having a battery with the same weight as gen 1 will still be an achievement.
Other companies may adopt the Puck idea but again if you adopt the puck idea you will be taking away from the main headset which is the opposite of what Apple is known for doing at the moment. They want this headset to be a standalone as possible. You can see this from the design. Alot of other headset cannot change the band or light seal and that is because those headset are designed as one unit. For 1.5 pounds the Vision Pro is everything in one unit not the band or light seal.
      Scrolling from the first impressions online and eye tracking seem to work so well that you won't need a controller as of now but yes for typing faster maybe you must use a keyboard until they figure how to improve the virtual version.     The main problem is that it does not open new use-cases;
    - it doesn’t make you more productive. A laptop and desktop is fine for a ‘computing device’.
    - it doesn’t allow you to do stuff that you aren’t already able to do.
    - And let’s be honest, your argument is not super strong. Right now the AVP you are essentially doing what you do in a Meta Quest, even if it’s more a desktop metaphor vs a mobile metaphor.
Apple still has to prove “spatial computing” is a thing that people want and need.
