  • A look at the Polish Lavvu or Polish Palatka. I go over improving its use as a poncho with a quick tip to secure the hood and a look at increasing flexibility as a shelter half by using simple paracord guylines.

    What I do with mine was I attached carabeener clips to the gromits which allows me to use heavy duty stakes protects my Lavvu from ripping and allows me to get solid stakes in very handy for managing windy days in Ireland. Because the last thing I want to be worries about is tieing knots in the rain. One quick clip job done hammer time very effective and efficient.

    You always come up with great efficient ideas with setting up shelters and this one is no exception. We always learn new things from your vids & getting ideas on improvement with our rigs & kits. We are creating & designing a poncho & tent combo with water proof material etc. Hopefully completed by the end of the year. It's for urban use basically and will donate it to the homeless folks. Just can't wait for your next episode, it widens everyone's horizons. Cheers mate. Greetings from Australia.

    I like the configuration. If a storm moved in at night and you need more coverage, one could even drop the nose of it, from the ridge line, and stake it down in a reasonable amount of time. Looks like to me at least.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! I was thinking along those same lines. With the corners attached the ridge line, it could make an A Frame like configuration.

    Hi Jess ..
    👍👍👍 .. some good tips there .. toggles really work! Thanks.
    The laavu or something similar? I'm half-mulling over whether to or not to .. weight vs durability near hot sparks. My current tarp, a Särmä Erakko 2.5 x 2.5 m is great .. big enough for me. However, in poor weather, I would like to get my Bushbox LF Wood Stove closer without fear of burning holes in my shelter. We'll see ..
    This morning was the first day out not in shorts and now wearing a jacket .. temps (°C) 'single digits / teens'. Had some rain lately but we are still labouring under a forest fire ban. Good news is that the threat level in our region has dropped from a '3 - Significant Danger' down to a '2 - Moderate Danger'. Am waiting on a Green '1 - Little or no Risk' .. then I can get out and give some Swiss Swiss Grannies 👁 an Apoplexy or two 😱 😁 .
    I missed your last Map Posting .. will have to backtrack and take a gander.
    Until next time my friend .. take care .. Tommy

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Tommy! Canvas is hard to beat. My lightest palatka is Czech. Has a pretty neat marsh camo pattern. With the palatkas, you kind of need 2. A US shelter half might be cool. It is about the size of a single palatka, plus the wings/door flaps.
      It is starting to cool down here as well. Still have lots to do before winter.
      Have a good one!

      @@thomasmusso1147 No problem. I waxed mine to help improve the water repellency. The thinner material is lighter, but there is a bit of a trade off. The wax helped tremendously and gave it a really nice patina.

    Great video. Canvas military gear, while "heavy", is just really cool. Is that the largest size lavvu? I think there are 3 sizes, and I know you mentioned it in one of your other videos, I just cannot remember. Keep the great content coming!

      The three grommet size is the largest, but it’s not really that much larger.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  Před rokem +1

      Thank you very much. It is the L size 3. I just fit in the full tepee setup, but it is a little tight. Interestingly, 3 palatkas has more room and weighs about the same as 2 Polish ponchos. Have a good one!

    • @calummcneil6006
      @calummcneil6006 Před rokem

      That's the largest size Polish poncho. 3 grommet holes. Some people end up with, 2 or 3. A miss match. If you are getting 2 ponchos try to get the same amount of grommet holes at the front.
