Thank you for being upfront about the costs of doing a project like this! Subscribed.
Great work. I'm currently in the in prosses of of doing an eV conversion and I was wondering, if it's possible to adapt a Tesla model s electric AC compressor onto a project eV car?
@@eddyboh2723 Hi Eddy, I don't see any reason why you could not do it. There is a lot of them around on Ebay.
I saw the car in person today and its amazing I was mind blown when I saw it . Thank you for sharing your unique vehicles with me and for the mirrors
Dude, not only is this a cool swap, its super super clean. Amazing work!!
One of the most underrated channels I'm aware of. I don't know many pilots who turn wrenches like this guy does.
From the sound of it he doesn’t actually turn them
Glad to have this information available. Planning on doing a Tesla swap on my 64 f100
Very thought out build. You're a one man show that can out engineer shops in the business. Looking forward to the next EV build.
Thank you David.
Great Job on the Mustang! Can't wait to see how's the 4WD Focus goes. Would me great to see you talk more on design process, given the current delay...

The quality of your mustang is so good! The build looks very professional.
Thank you, it was a fun build. The AWD focus is coming soon.
My 4.0 l engine blew up so I'm debating this, thank you for the info!
This is really cool.. good job on the video thanks for making it
this will be my blue print when my engine gives out. @ 145k atm. thank you for this video!
Personally, I think the 05-09 Mustang is the best looking Mustang ever. This is making me want to buy a second one to do an EV swap.
I couldn't agree more!!
Thanks Jack for being so transparent 🥰
Mustang with Chrysler batteries and Corvette's rims :)
I feel the same way but the combo is out of this world. It just works. Frankenstang for sure.
To many variable parts.🤔
Your build is so Clean! Amazing Work.
Thank you, building these are a lot of fun. Holley carburetor/AEM actually bought this car from me to design their EV components.
@@Roadstercycle Yeah!!! I did see that video. WOW! Amazing how things come full circle! Any chance of you doing more EV Swaps in the Future?
@@NBWDOUGHBOYHi, yes I have a ground up video in the works of a car called the Rattler coming soon. You can see pics of it on Instagram, Roadstercycle_EV
Cool. Good information. Nice video.
I am thinking of doing this with my 67 Mustang Fastback. I need to look around and see what is needed to do it. Thanks for the video.
I've been looking for a clean 67 myself to do a build with but I have not been able to find one at a decent price. Just add about $25,000 to the cars price for electronics and batteries. Batteries are the big issue at the moment. If you want a set of new lithium batteries instead of used ones it's about $15,000 for about 42 KWh.
New Sub, you are a trailblazer! Very awesome vision!
Mad props!!! That's awesome
Incredibly smart individual. Some people amaze me with how creative their minds can be. The trike roadster is awesome and you just fabricated your own fuel injection because of how unreliable the magna carbs were. I’m impressed.
Thanks Randy, New project Video coming this weekend.
This is so intriguing and awesome
Thank you, It was a blast to build.
Sir you are a genius.
Very nice job! Super fabrication!
Thank you.
Nice to see you Jacq take care of yourself have a good one good luck with you and everything you do and multiply it!!!!😃
Love it!
Please do a video driving this beauty!
The good, a big company wanted to look at it and then they bought it to play with. The bad, I did not get to make any burn out or driving videos.
Have you ever considered a hybrid build? Like an nsx/ i8 type hybrid?
wow so cool!!
Awesome. Subbed
I am very interested in the focus you're describing. I have a beautiful Jaguar I got from my grandpa and was thinking of ways to swap it... I think I will have to hold off until I graduate in May... PM me if you need any help with design,
This man is way ahead of what is happening to us. The Ford crate electric motor, kits, battery development. Many of us will want to convert our cars instead of getting a funny looking EV. Even older classics will become EVs. A great industry could blow up. Cheers to everyone
i’m currently holding on to a 1990 firebird formula 350 ws6, depending on how gas vehicle go im the next ten years it’s either getting a ls or a ev conversion
Love seeing your car. Such a great job. Have you tried your AC? Does your DC :DC converter keep up enough current?
I don't have AC in it at this point but my DC to DC converter would run it no problem. It's a 150 amp unit.
@@Roadstercycle Hey buddy love your videos want to do a Tesla awd drive swap .That's something you're intrested or can point me in a good direction for parts and schematics. Thanks
EV West has a Tesla Crate motor that fits where a small block Chevy would. Your thoughts?
Ok I watched the entire series last night. Wow, You are a very talented fabricator. Do you have any pictures of the final drive mounting? Did it end up being the threaded rod with square tube? I have been dreaming about a mustang conversion for many years but not with tesla hardware. Now I may do similar project with a convertible, 2 volt packs and an Rx8steering rack. Were the batteries waterproof? Do you have regenerative brakes. Do you have a parts list you are willing to share?
Love this
Hey there, I know this is an old video at this point, but I wanted to know how the car is doing and just clarify a few details as I'm planning a similar build with my s197 convertible. Did you use a large drive unit? What kind of modifications needed to be made to the car frame? Seems like a fascinating process.
Hi Joshua, I sold the car to AEM to do some EV testing. The car is doing great and it does have a large drive unit. I just finished another S197 with a Tesla model 3 motor install you can see on CZcams also. Comparing the 2 the Model 3 motored one is such a beauty to drive great power and a lot better mileage. The Large motored Tesla Mustang is a beast and a tire melting animal. Both are a blast. And absolutely, frame modifications were necessary, what my videos to see what needs to be done.
I hope you do very well
dope ride
Thank you, At the moment it is no longer my car. An electronics company wanted to look at it and they decided to buy it from me. On to the next Mustang build now.
Is it possible to take a model 3 take the battery and Motors and use a Ford Mustang 1970 body and merge them together that’s what I want to do
I believe that's doable but it would take stretching and widening the body of the Mustang I think. You can go on line the get the wheel base and width of the Model 3 and then compare it to a 1970 Mustang. Sounds great but expensive. I had a 1970 Mach I and I agree it would be cool for sure.
Great build ! Awesome content.. I have a couple of brand new tesla motors and the transmission/ no axles , and a tesla battery extended range , my question is if I were to put the drive train in a older pickup truck, besides the fabrication , how much would it cost for all the wiring, pumps, hoses, converters, etc.. give or take or maybe a ballpark idea?
Hi Maisy, That's kinda open ended question there. It really depends on the way you go with the parts you need. If you go with off the shelf items, Charger for drive pack, DC to DC converter, Motor controller, wiring, contactors, battery management system, fuses, water pump and misc. Probably close to $7000. Doing it smart and going the DIY way you could do it under $5000. Guesstimate. I need to d a DIY build help video on saving money on this subject.
so i have an 09 gt and im interested in doing this. i love your builds and i think i could do it, but im curious...do you have ac, infotainment, full gauges, power steering, power brakes? what about the range? what would we need to do to hit around 200 miles on a charge?
For 200 miles in my setup I would have needed about 80-90 Kwh if you drove it nice. Good luck with that! The thing was an absolute blast to drive, acceleration is a drug. The car did not have AC or a heater as it adds weight. I could of done it but it was not a daily driver, it was an adrenaline machine. If you want a daily commuter go buy a Tesla and be done. That's why I have a Model 3 too. It did have power steering and brakes. You can add electric steering rack to your car out of a 2012.
@@Roadstercycle thank you so much for the reply. That all makes sense. i guess if you are going to do the whole shabang it does make a lot more sense just to buy an EV lol
Peak my interest @ 2:00! Clean Tesla motor conversion on nice Mustang platform. Does it really need that big of a screen inside?
Love the build! I was wondering how did you pass your car from California referee? I am doing the same build as well. Is there any advice before I go to the California referee? Thank you
I have not gone to the ref yet since I bought the car and smogged it before tear down. I have 2 years before I have to Ref. it. I have no worries about doing it as it is electric with no emissions. Just make sure you build it safe and use the orange wiring for high voltage and have a main cut off switch and any other safety features you find along the way.
Roadstercycle awesome video man! So your email is Jack@roadstercycle.com?? I wanna chat, I had some questions about a project of LS swapping a Tesla motor onto a Volvo C70 hardtop convertible! Think it would be a good idea?? Cause c70’s are cheap but European very durable cars I’ve heard so I wanted to be better educated from someone that’s actually done it. Hope to talk to you soon!
@@kiduswardsnowden_bd Yes that's my email. I have no knowledge of what a C70 Volvo is or whether it would be a good donor. I would look to doing an American classic or one of the popular cars, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger as you may want to sell it someday. Even a convertible BMW may be a better choice. It's your project though not mine, choose what you feel good about.

What do think about Russia using Tesla frame and power to put a 1969 mustang body on it. It's also reasonable price.

To avoid getting in trouble or having to go to a track you need to get a Draggy. Super accurate. They have them at Draggy motorsports. Even when you use one at a track and compare it to the wayside timers they are within less than a percent accuracy difference.
I have had a draggy for years. Just did not get around to using it before AEM bought the car from me. Ran an 11.93 with a base LDU.

hey you can also do Camaro 2010 v6 in electric Tesla swapped version please
I have looked for a car to do that but unfortunately they are still too high for a donar car.
What's the most range you've gotten on the Mustang freeway?
Hi I've never really went cruising down the highway with it as far as on a trip. With the 32 Kilowatt pack my best is about 60 miles. That's if you don't put your foot in it. It's more a car show and rolling classroom. My Model 3 is for trips.

@@Roadstercycle amazing work! So this car has been sold?
@@Racing2Learn Yes it was sold. I miss it it, it was quick. I'll build another.
@@Roadstercycle please do! Would you be willing to share some of your design drawings? We're a nonprofit that gets kids excited about math and science and we're seriously considering building a Tesla-powered Mustang or RX-7! Thank you for considering!
@@Racing2Learn Hi, Love what your doing. I really don't use drawings to build. I design in my head on the fly. I am a fast prototype builder. The only time I do drawings is when I need G code to use one of my CNC machines which did not happen on the Mustang build. The only time I write things down or make a quick sketch is when I'm doing measurements for cutting or drilling. Building on the fly is so much quicker and easier than stopping and doing drawings for a one off design. That's why I could build one in 3 months instead of a year or two. Drawings are really for production of multiple models in a manufacturing world. Again, I love what your doing.
Would love to see this on the dyno
AEM has had it on the Dyno but I'm never asked for the results as I believe it's proprietary at the moment. They did take it to the drag strip with a base motor not the sport motor and ran consistent 11.80.
Could this conversion work for a 2015 Camaro?
Absolutely. It just takes some engineering skill, time and money. It's not going to just bolt right in. I was wanting to do a Late model Camaro but the donor car prices where ridiculous. I like to stay around $5000 for a donor car and that was not happening with a Camaro. The build I'm doing now is a 2008 VW GTI. It should be insanely quick.
@@Roadstercycle thank you for the reply! Ima look into it I love my Camaro, gas prices are getting ridiculous though.
I mean I wouldn’t do it BUT that is pretty dang cool. Idk what id do if someone popped the hood of their mustang GT and it was just a big ole battery 😂 cool build!
I did get a lot of WTF moments before AEM bought the car from me.
I want to do the same. I have owned a 67 Convertible, a 67 Fastback, and a 2006 Mustang GT. I currently own a Kia Soul EV and a Nissan Leaf EV. Luckily, I live in Florida, so the weather is always warm. Also I need it to be fast. When I moved down here with my 06 Stang, I thought I was fast, but when you're surrounded by Lamborghini's and McLaren's I really feel slow.
how many miles do they do with a charge ?
About 125 miles.
It's only a 32 kwh pack in the black one.
Would it be possible to do the same exact thing, on a 2015 Camaro? Would it have to be manual or automatic? Would the AC work? You got a subscriber from me regardless! Cheers.
I don't see why not. The trans does not matter since it's not used anymore.
@@Roadstercycle Yeah, I would love to do that to my car. If you wanted more range could just install more batteries? Thank you for replying. Im just in shock! All i see are old classic cars being converted to EV. I have so many questions lol.
Tanta pasta que tienen y lo hacen super ortera la adaptacion en el interior
Have you weighed the car before and after ?
Yes, The car is 200 lbs lighter with the Tesla setup. Remember though I only have 32 Kwh battery pack. About 450 lbs.
If the car was still in my stable you would be more than welcome to come check it out. The problem is that AEM bought the car to do design work on their EV line of products. They took it to the drag strip a couple weeks ago after they swapped the sport motor with a base motor and ran 11.8 seconds consistently in the 1/4 mile. Next they are working on the Sport motor control. I am in the process of building another Mustang right now which will be able to run a Model S motor or Model 3 motor. Your more than welcome to come check it out in a few weeks as its get further along.
E = GT^2... what a legend.
This guy is smart, I’m impressed but 22G$ for all that? Does this include the car? I want more info….. is there a build series?
Yes, there is a whole build series on CZcams. Just look up Mustang Tesla swap. Roadstercycle channel.
It was $22,000 with the car after I sold parts off the car. Motor, trans etc. You need to add about $3,000 dollars to that price for a BMS that was not included as I did not install one because AEM bought the car from me before I could do that.
Is this the same car AEM has on their channel?
Yes it is. I built the car then AEM bought it to do their EV product testing.
Let’s hear it run!!! 😂
That's pretty funny!
Did your build price include the cars 5000?
Yes, after selling the engine, trans and differential. I subtracted that from the $5000 cost of the donor car in the total.

Can you teach me to build one of my own?
Hi, I thought I was doing that in my videos. Everything is out there to build a Tesla powered EV. Do a lot of reading and watching videos and get the car built. When you get to the electronics if you can't figure that out I can help get you running as long as you use a system I'm familiar with. AEM, or Open Inverter.
@@Roadstercycle thank you for the response. Your explanation was excellent and you are correct because it’s just a lack of confidence in reference to my knowledge of electrical engineering that concerns me.
I have the same model mustang, but mine is the V6. Thought about doing a coyote swap. But I think I'd rather go electric instead.
I'm building another one that had the v6 with a Model 3 motor right now. I'm designing it to take either a M3 motor or Model S motor so I can do small block/ block big block type of conversions. Should have another video out next week.

is it a dual motor telsa motor(s)?
Just single rear sport motor.
@@Roadstercycle thank you...do you know if the new plaid rear motor p 100 d would fit?.....same dimensions?
@@gattaca5911 it would fit with modifications of course. Trying to find one is the issue and putting in a battery pack to power it. Lots of things to think about before pulling the trigger on that build.
@@Roadstercycle thanks... fender flares are a deal breaker so my first step is finding a dd motor that fits in within the original fenders.
@@gattaca5911 I'll tell you what. The Model 3 motor and subframe fits with some work and fits perfect between the original fenders. It also uses stock Ford bolt pattern 4.5 on 5. That's what I used on my latest silver Mustang build. If you use the Model S large motor and Corvette C5 wheels with a 74 offset then again it will fit inside the stock fenders. That's what is on the black Mustang in the Picture.
Please watch Motor Trend TV, Vintage Voltage, Season 1, Episode 6 “Land Rover Defender”. It’s got a Model S “sidewinder” EV conversion that you might like. Cheers!
Do you have a link? Love to check it out.
I don’t know if their episodes are available online yet. I just DVR’d Vintage Voltage on TV. The key part of the episode is the reverse flow gear oil pump that goes along with the re-gear and LSD. They also talk about the RPMs of the output shafts after the re-gear. Stateside, it looks like one of the Land Rover tuners is offering the same EV conversion that Vintage Voltage did. They didn’t name names in the episode, but I think Quaife made all the parts.
The REAL Mustang EV!
I had to show Ford how it's done.
I am thinking of switching out a 6.7 Bentely Arnage T motor for electric. motors. Big car, 6500 lbs existing. Is it possible? Or should I leave this monster 600HP gas guzzler in there? If I could do a switch for under $35K I would be interested in moving forward. Hmmmmm Makes for quite the luxury vehicle. Sold new for over $300k, picked up for $32K.. Mint, no plastic, full luxury. Let's do it?
Peter you could probably do it yourself for less than $35,000 but getting a shop to do it add about $10,000. It's doable with a lot of engineering.
@@Roadstercycle Thanks. I haven't done a restoration myself with engineering the mounting drive in decades. When I was in my 20s and 30s we built All kinds of racecars, Stock Cars.
