- European train control system, or ETCS for short, is the unified train control system on the European rail network. It replaces conventional country-specific train control systems, but it offers more than that. It is upward and downward compatible, in other words, an ETCS-equipped train can accept and process signals from several train protection systems.
Above all, the different levels, i.e. different technical states, shape the railroad world to an enormous extent. Incidentally, the mode of operation of the respective levels varies widely. The entire range of railroad technology is represented, from driving on sight to driving at a braking distance. ETCS is therefore the central train control technology in Europe and overseas. All the relevant processes are considered in this explanatory video.
Für den Anfang ist es dem LZB- berechtigten Lokführer sehr verständlich erklärt, vielen Dank dafür.
Also wird man wohl bei den aufbauenden Levels (ab vier ?) darauf hin arbeiten, daß der Tf eines Tages auch seinen Fahrweg selber einstellen kann ?
Was wird das Endziel der Technik sein, vielleicht sogar die Bezahlung der Trasse anhand des gewählten Fahrwegs und der Zugart ?
Wird am Ende alles die Technik übernehmen, wie weit will man gehen ?
Leider ist seit der fahrzeugtechnischen Einführung der ETCS die Fahrt im LZB- Betrieb besonders der Bombardier- Traxx- Loks (System EBICAB) sehr störanfällig geworden, Rechnerabstürze und Übertragungsausfälle sind teilweise eine echte Plage.
Ob das an der Wartung liegen könnte ?
Vielleicht gibt es ja irgendwann mal ein privates Lernprogramm mit Animation der Fahrten wie es das einst bei der LZB (Köster) mal auch bei der Ausbildung verwendet wurde, das wäre ein echter Anreiz, sich damit anzufreunden um vorbereitet zu sein.

@@YTDE426 Laut ein Bericht im International Railway Journal von März 2024 wird die Einführung von Automatic Train Operation (ATO) für die Linien C und D der Prager U-bahn etwa € 100 Million pro Strecken-km kosten. Deswegen halte ich es für fraglich ob ATO fürs ganze Eisenbahnnetz realisierbar sei. Grüße aus den Niederlanden.
@@gert-janhondelink1864 Wird nicht mehr lange dauern,dann wird es deutlich güntiger. Wennn Autos autonom fahren können - schaffen wir das mit AI bald auch duetlich günstiger mit Zügen.
Quite nice video to send to friends. But you forgot about the L1 LS. Also, the value 50 kph in L0 is a national value. It only applies in Germany. Other countries have other values. 100 kph for CZ, 120 for SK, 160 kph for CH (I believe that in conjunction with second crewmember in the cab)... In fact, all of those ETCS speed, time and distance constants are national values and may differ country-to-country or even level to level. For example, in Germany, at L1 LS will use other speedlimit in SR and other range of release speeds than the L2. So the German L1 LS will be even more speed-restricting but less distance restricting than the L2.
Thank you very much. This video does not explain the specific national parameters,(for example special values of restricted speed or the release speed of Germany) but only explains the general mode of operation that serves as a basis for all countries. We mention things like LS and FS, NTC very well, but don't go into it further. We then do this in appropriate special chapters. Thank you for your interest!

@@JohannesGollingEigentlich nicht, jedoch wenn man nicht vom Fach ist. Dürfte es schon schwer sein, dem Inhalt in Gänze zu folgen. 😉
