The problem with these combined 11s is that they never decide whether its current form or in general (last couple seasons)

I think I'm making a team based more on this season and James is more on the past few years. The brief was kind of a mixture of both as it was "make a team to win the league this season" so plenty of room for interpretation. I'm a big Trent fan, hope he gets back to his best soon and plays for England at the WC!

Ben white playing right back is just bog standard you can switch him out for anyone. Trent provides something different and if you were worried about defensive ability well you’re creating the team, center backs and defensive mids are there for that reason

They should do these combined 11s with only the current season in mind. There is an old saying in football, "You're only as good as your last game" It makes it more fluid and realistic to just put in current form players.
There is also a saying that form is temporary, class in permanent. Liverpool have had a bad start this season but we were Very close to winning everything last season. That shouldn't be just forgotten about after a bad month.

@@niv3341 not Xhaka for Thiago. Xhaka's playing really well and if Arteta keeps playing him this far forward I believe he will have a full resurgence but he still doesn't have Thiago's quality. Thiago's one of the best midfielders in the league. Not counting DMs the only ones that are arguably better than him are De Bruyne, Bernado Silva and Kovacic.

Partey doesn’t get enough credit to some major sport football journalists, especially those who don’t understand fundamentals of the game, if you look at Arsenal’s success in most of the games, it’s the presence of him been there in that midfield, so I don’t see the reason why he is not included in that midfield, Fabio over him is a criminal offence.

Right, if Liverpool have defensive problems, you would look at who is directly in front of them. If Man United defence is looking shakey it's because of the midfield in front them. SO Liverpool being bad defensively has to come with some blame for Fabinho. Arsenal on the other hand, with Partey (the octopus) in front them are amazing. When he doesn't play, you see the difference.

You’ve got a team who lost 3-4 games last season, won two trophies, 1 point off premier league and champions league final, having won every competition there is too offer, but has had a dip in form, vs a team who finished 5 after having 4th in the bag, won barely anything in the last 5 years, but has had a good start to the season. It’s a no brainier, arsenal have started strong but have proved absolutely nothing in terms of being a successful team. It’s out of the question which team should dominate the combined 11 at this point in time.
I'm terms of permanent class , this is why Arsenal need to make it to January either on top or a reasonable close second to Man City and cash in on their status by literally busting the bank and securing 4 Top Tier players in key shallow depth positions. It's last years lesson. But this year we have the ranking. So far. If we keep the ranking into January, the thinking really should be "all or nothing" , "now or never". Because if things go wrong, the window for best in class might close and fade away

This starting XI is completely different depending which way you go and this feels like a mess trying to do both.
