    Refrigeration tech here, this is a great solution. I have brought up the ice chute to my supervisor a few times with pics of water scale and was dismissed. I fix that every time anyway and never get call backs on the same frige for it. The hvac aluminum tape is genius! I’ll be swapping over to this myself.
    Samsung needs to see this video, I will be sending this out to all the guys I work with.

      Thanks for the comment 🙏🏼! Yes, it was through some serious thought process that I figured out the best solution for this issue. I shared this information with all my fellow techs, and they have also had success in most of their repairs. I've also given this information to Samsung tech support agents. However, I never knew how to get ahold of the person who can make a difference in the field.

      We are new homeowners and our fridge is doing this. We can't wait to do this. Our Ice Master has a date of 8-31-2018. Should we get replacement parts in addition to the steps you suggested? We still get ice in the freezer part of fridge which is crazy. 🤯 Thank you for going slow and step by step so the average person can do this at home.

      I give all the props to the appliance guru and hope he gets lots of hits because he made a fantastic video. I will say, I almost made this repair and was looking in my fridge manual to see if there was any extra information on this. The section I flipped to said to call Samsung support. I called them and told them my ice maker was frozen. They got the serial number and said my fridge was out of warranty but they would send someone to fix it free of charge (5 minutes on the phone tops). They called a local appliance repair shop and had them call me to confirm an appointment time. I found out from the repairman that Samsung finally fixed this issue and is replacing almost the entire ice machine free of charge because it costs them less money than having multiple technicians troubleshoot and travel to repair. At the very least, I would take 5 minutes to call Samsung before making the repair.

    Mr. Guru, Thanks for posting this. Just found it recently. Been having this problem for a couple of years. Completed the repair you suggest this past weekend and it has worked great so far. Every time we tried to get ice, water would dump out of the ice chute and the ice would come out all chopped up from freezing together in the bucket. Now perfect ice and no water. Thank you !!! The hardest part was getting all the ice to melt on top of the fan so I could pull the auger motor out. Thanks again !!!!

    Done on the Fourth of July (2024), will return to comment on the fix in a couple months. A colleague asked me if there was anything special about the tape. I don't know but I think it should be impermeable and able to take a wide range of temperatures without losing adhesion. I'm using a $7 roll of FlexFix vent sealing tape from Home Depot. I watched another video which said the icemaker also needs the freezer compartment to be set to 0 degrees or below or it will disable itself. A last video said the front of the fridge needs to be slightly elevated to level the icemaking tray inside, so I've shimmed under the roller wheels about 1/4". As of 24 hours after doing all three things, the icemaker is churning out ice again!

    Awesome help. Here's a suggestion to make the flapper de-scaling easier (without disassembly). Heat up a glass of vinegar to about hot coffee temperature (no boil) in the microwave. Put a rag and some bowl under the external dispenser. Pour the vinegar into the chute on the inside of the door. Let it sit for a minute or two to remove the scaling (it may actually run out slowly if the flapper has a lot of scaling). You can use a tiny brush on the inside to speed up the process. Repeat with another glass of vinegar if necessary. Mine only took one. Important is that the vinegar is hot, which speeds up the process significantly. Make sure the rag is big enough as the vinegar will come out a lot of different cracks.

    Very good video. Besides waiting on the thawing out, it was fixed in 30mins-hour and running with no issues. I only needed to add the tape and it resolved my issue. Basically it would slowly start to freeze up but it also started spitting water out of the trap door every time we didn’t get ice for a bit. And then eventually just not work.
    Hardest part was seeing a screw on the right side of the upper ice maker that was unreachable. It also coincides with the cut of him pulling out without the camera. You leave it. Also, with the ice bucket. I used the tape on the outside of the small crack we had. Figured why not. Haha. Again thanks for the video.

In the past when we would defrost the ice maker, the issue would show up again in just days. Also I would have not even thought to check the seal on the flapper and of course ours was pretty crusty. A tip for others...the foil tape can be a pain to work with, but I found to work with smaller sections, maybe 2-3 inch max makes it a little easier to place. Thanks big time!!

    Great detailed video. I just viewed it, and have not tried it out yet, but I certainly will try it. Thank you, Guru, for finally trying an out of the box solution!
    UPDATE: I have a slightly different model, and I just did the tape fix. I will update again after a test period. Also, being far less familiar with the inside of the cavity, I found the following tools helpful:
    > stubby straight blade screwdriver to assist in loosening the electrical connections;
    > LONG (24") straight blade screwdriver to hold up the auger retaining clip while removing it ( I found that the entire auger assembly had to be lifted slightly, not just the tab.) and;
    >battery operated headlamp to help in viewing the back of the cavity.
    Thanks again, Guru!

    Amazing video. Super clear instructions. I just did this yesterday. So far so good but will need to monitor over next week or so to confirm ice build up doesn’t return. I’ll check back with my results.
    FYI my fridge already had Y clips installed (I purchased in 2021) for those with a newer one

    GREATEST VIDEO EVER! I have been defrosting my samsung icemaker for years; every few weeks without stop. I have watched several videos of people that say they have the fix with calking and glue, that NEVER WORKS. This actually DOES WORK. I did what he says and I haven't had to defrost at all for about 3 months now. I am so happy with this video. Thank You So Much; WOW!

    Cheers - took a bit longer than I thought because the auger was frozen in there solid (took about half an hour of steaming and chipping to get it free). BUT...was patient and careful and now I'm hearing a sound I haven't heard in ages...ice being made. Thank you so much for the vid.

    Bought a house 1 year ago with one of these refrigerators. Defrosted at least 10 times since then and was about to spend $2-3K on a new one. $10 and 30 minutes to do everything... 6 weeks later this has worked perfectly. Not only does the ice maker not freeze up but we no longer get ice shards everywhere when we use the dispenser. THANK YOU!

    I can't thank you enough for taking the time to produce & post this GREAT video. It was so detailed & informative. My Samsung model # rf23r6201sr/aa was made in 2021. After having it for about a year with no issues, about 8 months ago the ice maker just started freezing up. I would put it in the defrost cycle and chip out all of the ice and then it would work fine again for about 3 weeks before freezing up again and then I had to go through the same defrost & ice removal procedure over & over and over again.
    Coming across your video is a God send and now, thanks to you, I know how to fix it.
    Much appreciated my friend!

    Followed this to tee and added a few more taped joints where I could. 2 months later there is a tiny bit of frost build up underneath but every other defrost was good for maybe(?) a week. Great improvement to a horrible OEM design. Thank you!

      Hey, first off, I want to say thank you for the "SUPER THANKS." It's appreciated. Yes, with this repair, the frost should not build the way it would before. I've had this done to my personal fridge for about 2 years now and every so often I pull out the ice bucket and wipe down inside of the icebox and in the ice schute but I've never seen it frost up the way it did before. Thank you

    I recommend unplugging and thawing for 48hrs. It really helps not having to deal with the ice behind fan. Also, I used the back of a mini crowbar instead of the clip tool but feel it would have been easier to have the clip tool. Just easier to maneuver in general and have more leverage. The video is great and hoping this fix works. We shall see!

    A++ thanks mate - superb work.
    One quick thing - when you're working on plastic, especially in a fridge - head up all the clips so they're a bit more flexible. A hairdryer works a treat if you dont have a heat gun.

    I've been searching for a fix for my fridge's issue, and came across many stating to go call samsung and the class action lawsuits, but this fix actually removes the "samsung fix" and does it properly.
    It was quick and straight forward to do all the work in this video and he explains it very well.
    I have no issues with the icemaker anymore.
    I just wish I did not use a heat gun at first to melt everything and found this video where he recommends a steamer which worked so well.
    THANK YOU!

    Thanks so much for this great video! We bought the extended warranty and had a service repair man over 3 times. First replaced a control board, didnt work. came back a month later and did the silicone thing,didnt work.Came back a month later and replaced the rubber seal between the door and the ice box,didnt work. He came back a month later and got on the phone with samsung and told them every thing he did and they deemed it unrepairable and we got a 1,950 refund which is what we paid. Guess what,the same thing now is 2,800 so I have been just hitting it with a hair dryer every 2 weeks and figured I would be doing this forever until I came across your video!! I followed it exactly and its been 3 days and zero frost!!! THANK YOU so much for sharing!!
