Girl With No Face is a flawed record, without question. There's some janky songwriting, some of the vocal performances don't fit, and whether you enjoy or despise the violent 80s-ness is a matter of personal taste (I enjoy it well enough). With that being said, Allie X has enough personality to pair nicely with well-produced instrumentals that accurately represent the very specific sonic aesthetic the record was going for. That isn't to mention the legitimate artistic growth on display here. Girl With No Face, despite all of its issues, feels like a major step forward for Allie X. It is nigh-impossible to argue with this album's status as a major piece of creative evolution on her part, and it just so happens that the majority of what lies within it is often very enjoyable.
