  • This online lecture was delivered by Dr. Gopaljee Jha, Scientist V, NIPGR,New Delhi, under science dialogue series initiated by me. Science dialogue series is free webinar series. The video is about using microbes to control plant diseases in a sustainable way. The speaker, Dr. Gopaljee Jha, emphasizes that using fewer agrochemicals is important for our health and the environment. Dr. Jha's research focuses on a specific type of microbe called a fungal eating bacterium. This bacterium produces a protein that the plant recognizes as a signal of pathogen attack. This triggers the plant's defense response and helps to protect it from disease. Dr. Jha's team has developed a formulation using nanotechnology that can be used to deliver this protein to plants. This formulation has been shown to be effective in controlling diseases in rice and tomato. Dr. Jha believes that this system can be extended to other crops as well.
