Can anyone ever explain why certain colors of runs would be more or less stable than other colors? I’ve never understood how the color could possibly be a factor in how a disc flies

@@knowerofnonedifferent colors require different pigment densities to fully saturate the base plastic. More additive changes the rate at which the plastic cools down, which changes the profile of the disc

Simon put out his video earlier today and mentioned how the stability changed between the colors, and you guys mentioned the stamps seemed to be a difference maker. Sounds like its just an inconsistent first run across the board or is there a method to the madness?
There definitely seem to be color differences but the only one that really stood out to us as being different was the pink. The pink one was definitely more overstable. We did not throw a red or purple though

@@Dantheman_1942there shouldn't be a difference in stamps. The reason there is a difference between colors coming from someone who literally produces the dyes for the plastics these companies use is one of 2 factors. Either A. They use multiple different molds or injectors for each color which most likely is not the case however I have seen companies do that or B. Which is most likely the reason, every dye I make is a different consistency based on the color. Some colors come out looking like play dough and some come out looking like water. Reds and oranges are usually a lot thicker where as blues are usually very thin. There is waaaaaay more to it than just that but I'd bet am entire years salary that the difference comes from the thickness in the dyes they use and how much of it they need to get the plastic to change color. Stamps have nothing to do with it unless they made an entirely different run of them which I seriously doubt they did.
@@travnasty5269 Great explanation, thank you! I wonder if they had 3 different runs. Like maybe the "party time" run was a different one than the "stock" one. Also I'm not certain on the dye side of things, but the different plastics - aren't they different colors from the start, and they just mix them into the machines? Seems pretty common now for different colors of the plastics having an effect on how these discs fly.
@@NickCarroll so all plastics come as little white or clear pellets. I'm not sure if theirs start as a white or clear but I'd be willing to bet it's white. The way it works is you'd start with the raw on processed white pellets and then add the dye. You'd take samples of that before melting it down so you get a rough guess as to what the color, weight, and consistency would be. The machine they use to measure that are very weird it's basically like magic to me. But from there you'd the melt the plastic in small batches if not just melt what you need for one shot of injection most likely and then you'd have your disc. So in some case you might have 1 gram of dye for 1 gram of plastic and in others it might take half a gram of dye per 1 gram of plastic therefore you'd have more raw plastic which would produce a slightly more stiff disc I would assume. My theory is the heavier they are on the dye the less plastic pellets they use so then some how that alters the plastic to be less stable. Which is why the purples and blues are less stable while the yellows and whites are more stable. I know from experience that yellows and reds typically stretch a very long way in plastics dyes while darker colors like purple you actually need a lot of to achieve the actual color you want.... however when it comes to swirls and things like cosmic neutron for mvp I'm completely lost because I've never dealt with anything like that lol.
I bought ten and took them out to throw today here in sweden. At first they flew real nice for me (about 440 max distance), but after a few throws while in the -10c temperature they all ended up *extremely* overstable. I have a feeling the overmold shrinks more than the plate in cold weather and bubbles up the dome, causing them to get monstrously beefy.

now I'm wondering about all other discs in the cold. I might have to do some experimenting. It gets pretty cold up here in Maine and I play all winter but my distance suffers big time once it gets colder.

As far as i know the special edition stamps are exactly the same runs as the stock stamp ones so I dont know why a different stamp would make it more stable. My party stamp time lapse is definitely less stable than my stock stamp one.

@@OverthrowDiscGolf it was! I don’t know if you’ve done other reviews like this one, but I REALLY liked the comparison between different arms thrown on all those lines. I’m a fellow noodle arm (working my way up to “mid”) and looks like a similar flight to what I use my Biofuzion defender for (straight even in a headwind, and solid fade/some skip). If I need a replacement, this might be just the thing!

So weird how wildly different the reviews have been on this. Personally I just want a os longer Tesla/ lil more overstable trace, which is what I was hoping the photon could be but so far I'm not sold on it. So I'm hoping the time lapse will fit the bill. I want something I can give a bit more anny and have enough to come out of it but be able to push a lil further.
How far do you throw and what plastic is your Tesla in? I throw a 174g fission Tesla that I would say this is the longer version of. If I smack my Tesla it gets a little pop up.
@@OverthrowDiscGolf not long enough to justify it ATM but like 340 ish forehand on the trace according to one hole I keep throwing past lately that's 330 lol. I probably can get a bit further but who knows where it's going to go. I use the plasma plastic for my Tesla tho 173

@@digital0785 right. When you described what you were looking for I immediately thought that this was what you wanted because that’s how I’m using it. I looked for a disc to fill the Tesla slot for a while and now that I have this I realize that it is the longer version for me.

I enjoyed this style of review video. the graphics were great. the 3 different skill levels were easy to draw comparisons, ie. between the players, style of shot, and compared against myself. the holes used to demonstrate those particular shot were good choices. hope to see more disc reviews like this one in the future.

Man they were really trying to be like a destroyer with the inconsistencies between them all… lol all jokes aside. It’s mildly annoying that they are vastly different from each other. I understand it take’s incredible precision to make them all the same and different plastic colors can have weird density differences. Just not my cup of tea I guess. no doubt this disc will be paying simons house mortgage for the foreseeable future
Slow down Josh! Soon you'll have to push Dakota hard in the distance department (affecting his accuracy in bad ways) or hire a "mid arm" for these sessions! Pushing "big arm" on several shots.

By far not the best distance driver, for most people it’s one of the worst. huge rim, too over-stable, Not workable. Still amazing tho! Fucking love mine lmfao just perfect for my oversrable distance driver! it’s a good complement to my cloud-breaker 1 and 2
