My wife and I began a five hour trip in 100 degree weather when my AC began cooling only intermittently. Cooling lasted only a couple of miles at a time for several iterations then stopped altogether and blew hot. We stopped in at our local Toyota dealer who checked out the electrical, evacuated the system, added freon, and checked for leaks with no problems detected. We left the dealership with it blowing ice cold and traveled about five miles when it started blowing hot again. We ended up traveling the entire five hours with no AC. The dealership thought maybe a hose had popped due to the added Freon. I checked all the hoses and connections. No sign of dye or oil. Started the car the next morning and was amazed the AC was working. But as before, it only lasted a few miles. We were forty five minutes from a dealership who had no service appointments available. So I got on CZcams and truly by the grace of God your video was first in the lineup. I opened the hood, found the MG CL relay and called O’Reilly auto parts. I drove it over snd they helped me replace the relay-AND IT WORKED! Thank you thank you thank you! Your video saved our vacation-and my sanity! God bless you sir!
Oh my goodness! I'm a 67 yr old lady that just fixed the ac on my Tacoma using your instructions....thank you so, so much!! This fixed it! It's blowing like a pack of ninjas now. I'm so happy.
You sir are a legend, 6 years after this video and its still relevant. Im in Australia, $17 relay Vs Hundreds to have mechanic check and fix... many thanks mate.
Wow! Thanks for your great help. I swapped it for fog light relay and it worked. Called our Toyota dealer, not in stock. Order for $90.00.Called NAPA. They had one for $19.00. Good enough for me. Thanks again.
Your suggestion worked on our 2003 Toyota Corolla, bought an AC Relay on Amazon for $10 (for 2) and now our AC is blasting like new. Thank you so much! You've saved us hundreds of $ if going to the mechanic.
I have a 2000 Tacoma Standard cab. The AC stopped working the other day suddenly. Prior to that it was working great. I just checked the fuse box. The only AC item there is a fuse called 10A/AC. That fuse is good. There is no MG CLT relay. Any recommendations welcomed! Thank you. Update: I took it to the Firestone service center. They said there was no more Freon or whatever the put into AC units these day. They replaced two gaskets and refilled the Freon... $230 later....
You sir are excellent! My 2018 Toyota RAV4 AC and heater would mostly blow 'half heartedly' and occasionally not at at all. Going over a speedbump at high speed would knock it and it would often kick back on, but still waver on blowing. I thought it might be a big AC/heater or blower fix. Turns out it was a $18 'magnetic clutch' relay! Thank you so much sir!
My Ac stopped working after turning off my tundra at my kids school. When I turned it back on my ac did not work at all. I changed the relay, for $15.00 . Thanks you just saved me trip to the dealer and at least $200.00 in dealer diagnostics fees.
That's exactly what happen to mine, it was working great, I turned it to max air and all of a sudden it went out and stopped blowing cold air, thank you for sharing!!
Thank you for taking us through this slowly most of us are not mechanics . If you watch a lot of videos they blast through it and you have to rewatch it over and over again 💪
I must make a comment you have done an excellent job with your communication. many people with accents I have a hard time hearing but you did a great job and thank you for the tip I'm going to do that in my troubleshooting process next
I have a Toyota Sienna 2010 and the relay was not the problem. I tested it and swapped the horn relay. Besides, I could see the magnetic clutch engaging. I heard that without enough refrigerant the system will cut out. I used a recharge kit (EZ Chill) and now it's all good. So, I guess the system CAN just cut out from one day to the next just because of low refrigerant.
yes, but you will normally see A/C performance slowly down…..this video speak about case when it is ice cold, and next minute no A/C at all……good job fixing yours !
Will check out your idea first thing tomorrow. But maybe i will also wake up to some hints too. Mt green button light comes on and stays on and it blows, but warm air. Any ideas? Low freon, meaning leak ???
my 2001 lexus lx470 had the same symptom, I just put in the new relay and it works. Thank you for saving me a lot money, I don't think the dealer or repair shop will tell me all I need is $8.00 relay.
Yes, AC relays in Toyota are common to fail at around 200k miles in hot area. The symptoms is usually very simple, suddenly the AC blow warm air. Sudden change instead of slowly getting warm like AC lines leaks.
This is amazing. The AC on my 2017 Highlander would only blow “ cool” ( almost warm ) air and I have had suggestions that the compressor needs to be replaced and another that the evaporator needs to be replaced. I have watched videos on CZcams stating that the “:flow sensor “ on the compressor should be replaced ( Toyota doesn’t sell just the sensor you have to buy the whole compressor . Doorman sells the flow sensor for less than $30 ). Another video suggested the the AC Pressure Switch may be faulty ( a $184 part from NAPA ) . I am encouraged after watching your video that it may just be the relay which in Canada at NAPA would probably be about $30-$45??? . I’m going to try that out tomorrow.
I’m having this ac blinking light on a 2003 tundra which does not have the magnetic clutch relay. The problem is intermittent. When it happens I turn off vehicle and wait about 20 seconds and restart and ac works fine. Any ideas?
I am another person who can verify this "trick". AC was working fine on my 2007 Tacoma with 230k miles. Suddenly stopped working. I reseated the relay, and suddenly I have cold air again! Imagine the $$$ people have shelled out unnecessarily.
I checked the relay pins and it is okay. I even tried a new relay. What can I do next? The compressor will not turn on. The system is not leaking refrigerant. Does a 2005 toyota sienna xle have a high and low pressure switches. How do I test those? How do you test the clutch?
I am slowly working through the permutations to get AC working again. I was surprised that the refrigerant was not the problem. There was plenty of pressure. I tested the 10-amp AC fuse and replaced it. It blew right away, so I suspected a short. I will try this next.
Thanks for sharing. It is really sad that the entire Auto Industry is so corrupt. I love the 80 & 60 series Landcruisers but finding parts became a treasure hunt. Now I am getting a 2011 Tundra and am not looking forward the dance one must do with maintenance upkeep. I can handle the Preventive stuff but your videos an prime example why I stay away from Dealerships, except for parts not available other places. I would bet 99% of Toyota Dealerships would have screwed the owner of your situation out of hundreds. Thanks for the lesson and helpful information.
So weird! my 2016 Off Road, 4x4, all of a sudden just shut off. (green ac light went off and stays off). When I push the AC button on, I can hear it run then it shuts off, green ac light goes off. I checked the fuse and the replay, they are working properly. I had a friend come over and he said the compressor is running which is good news, however, he then assumed the refrigerant its empty so he was going to add freon but, his gage says the freon in full. That is where we are confused. Also its the 1234y NOT the usual 123A. Any insights? I want to sell this truck but I need to get this fixed first. We live in Florida. We do NOT have the $$ to have it serviced or even diagnosed at a local toyota dealership, they are way expensive.
Low Freon caused my Tacoma A/C not to cool that happened suddenly. Low freon causes condenser not to switch on. I checked the A/C fuse and relay which were good.
Greetings from brasil. Very helpful your video. I have a 2021 yaris, and i always keep the temperature at 23 Celsius. I am a taxi driver. But since the last cabin filter change my air conditioning has been eventually mal functioning. Which the temperature rising geting warm. Them i low on the display and is fine. But is annoying. Do you think can be the relay? Thank you
I have a 2004 Toyota Tundra but could not find the relay MG CLT. Does it use another relay for this? Some people say it may use the heater relay. Appreciate any help.
My 2012 prius has this exact scenario. But my fuse box has no mg clt. The compressor is electric. Would the relay be anywhere else? Or maybe the inverter fuse?
Hi thanks for the video! could I test any other similar relay in the same fuse box to test it? I see similar shape and size but a different color??? Please help
Any idea on if I can make a 2016 SR5 standard ac and make it into a dual ac, like a limited? Would it be fairly plug and play? Or is there a lot that’s different mechanical from the sr5 to a limited?
My 2001 Tacoma doesn’t have anything labeled as described in the video as mg clt “magnetic clutch”. I see AC on one of the 10 amp and try replacing this.
I remove the relay during the winter, hook it up during the hot weather saves wearing out the ac compressor, when you go for defrosting the front window you compressor engages to put load on the engine to speed up the warming of the engine and defrost your window faster
So the AC on my 2012 Tacoma randomly stopped working. However, leaving it turned on, it came back on, then off again, and on again, and off again, lol. It keeps happening at different times. I was thinking it might be a short in the wiring....any idea?
Did you figure it out? mine did this and then finally turned off and hasn’t turned on since. Waiting to take it to the shop bcz they’re booked out 2 weeks
@@kingjay6756 Yep, just the blower. I pretty much run it most of the time since it is so hot here and it just finally had it and slowly went out. So no short, no fuse, just needed to be replaced. Cost a couple hundred if I remember. Wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.
@@kingjay6756 No. I took it to another well-known place that specializes in certain things such as AC and is not a typical garage. They diagnosed fairly quickly and had it replaced by the next day. I am sure the dealership will do the same. The place I went isn't cheap, so I am sure the dealership will cost about the same, and it wasn't horrendous.
2013 Camry came with a continuous operating compressor which has a flow sensor that has to open and the sensor is not receiving enough voltage to open right away until I have driven 3 to 10 miles, bad thing is you can't just buy sensor you have to replace the compressor, I'm still under warranty for 700 miles hopefully it won't cost me any money
My Ute at the moment under load while towing, up any big hills while aircon is on, the aircon goes from cold to warm air and my engine temperature climbs up past half way . Could this be the relay as well??
Hi there awsome information, Hi Guy 4 years ago I bought a bargain Cruiser V8 2004 that just had a heap of head work. after getting it home for a week or 2 and the Cam sensor died got it back from the Mechanic then a few days later after a quick stop at the shops I started the truck and it stalled, I got it started but the idle was as rough. Well this would be for the 2008 and up the 2000 to 2007 does not have this relay. Question I have though is if you at idle and you turn on the AC and RPM's jump up to 1000 for 3 seconds is that a sign that the clutch engaged on the compressor then turned off because of a low charge or bad sensor somewhere?
My 2014 Tacoma A/C working ok when driving on the highway, but when I’m driving in the neighborhoods (in the stop & go traffics), my A/C would stop working, the orange a/c light is blinking. Not long ago, I refilled the refrigerant but my A/C is still the same. Do you think it’s the relay problem?

my 07 rav 4 blower motor isnt working, but the compressor runs.. A/C light is blinking,, do u know where the blower fuse and relay are located for my vehicle.? thanks sometimes when I hit a bump, blower would come on,, but not anymore.;
My ac will work just fine then all the sudden the ac light will start flashing so I keep hitting the ac light button and every once in a wile it will stay on is it the relay?
2007 Toyota Avalon. What if the compressor engages and then it shuts off? We put the Freon hose/meter and it’s all over the place. 8psi-176psi then Error, toggles back and fourth and then doesn’t work. I press the a/c button and it’s solid for about 2-3 seconds then the button starts to flash and compressor turns off. Could you give me some recommendations?
Okay, so my A/C just suddenly cut out, I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, I’ve messed with the fuses and all, but my A/C light isn’t coming on when I press it, do you have any idea what it could be?
nice video. I have a 2010 pontiac vibe but found out its really a Toyota Matrix. when I push the ac button, it doesn't lite up. I have checked all fuses under the hood and under the dash and they are good. could the relay stop the light on the knob not work? thank you.
I found this to be the problem on a 2004 Corolla. I tested the wires at the plug of the A/C Compressor and I got no Voltage so I checked the fuse and it was good but then I swapped the horn relay with the A/C relay and it started to work. Bad relay after all.
My AC in 2005 Toyota Tacoma suddenly stopped. One day fine, next day not. AC light flashes and engine bogs down when AC on...also smelling something hot. Thinking the compressor might be seized up? Any suggestions?
i have a 2013 tundra limited 5.7 i change the blower and after that star blowing good again but after a month star blowing slow again... any recomendetions?
UPDATE: it was my blower motor behind the glove box. It stopped running, mechanical agitation fixed the problem though. 💪🔨 If that doesn't work, try unplugging the connector, verify nothing is broken or burnt and plugging it back in....if that still doesn't work you need a new blower motor.
my toyota highlander 03 suddenly doesnt heat up. ive checked the heater core hoses and there both hot. is there any relay for the heater? if there is, what will it say on the fuse box thanks. because i do have a/c but no heat what so ever

Do you know where relay is located on a 08 4wd hiace? Cant find mine and i have same symptom.
My magnetic clutch is working, but A/C blows hot air. It is likely low on freon?

Thank you so much for this video! Can you tell me if a 2005Toyota Corolla CE has this same fuse for the air conditioner?
I found this to be the problem on a 2004 Corolla. I tested the wires at the plug of the A/C Compressor and I got no Voltage so I checked the fuse and it was good but then I swapped the horn relay with the A/C relay and it started to work. Bad relay after all.
Jursaw I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla and wouldn't it have the same fuses in the car?

James Mikel did u found out what was wrong becuz mine is doing sams
My magnetic clutch is still activating and spins when the A/C button is pressed....but still no A/C.
