No waffle. Clear concise instruction and good drills.
Concise tutorial, superbly delivered. Many thanks.
Thanks for watching Tim 👍🏻
I liked it. Thank you. I've been shanking close ones lately. I needed that.
This is excellent, and is explained beautifully. Thank you so much for this!
Wow 👌 👏 probably the best video on CZcams on shanks you actually talk about two different types of shankers which is so true 👍 thanks can you do one for mid irons? I shank those as well
I've been hoping you would do a video on this for so long. Excellent detail & fixes that will hopefully see me stop the dreaded shank. Thank you James.
Let me know how it goes Denny 👍🏻
Another amazing instruction video James, thanks!
Thanks Tony 👊🏻
Wow … came up on my feed, what a nice, clear, instructive video Subscribed! …. I am shanking a little, but mainly hitting consistently behind the ball. Killing my love for the game as it’s now in my head, I have gone from an 18 to 20 in the last couple of months and dropping like a stone - Have you a video on that problem? Thanks 😊
This makes me want to fix my shank and I don’t even play golf
Great video. I was shanking on practice green after practicing a while but not during round. was still unacceptable so I solved it by staying connected and keeping my elbows in similar to what you are showing. it kept my club on plane and I got consistent on making solid contact. My goal is at least one chip in per round now.
Great , exceptionnal explications and more famous drill 👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍
🙏🏻
The BEST video Ever on this subject. Thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video! Does this apply to distance wedges too?
Thank You, This is the best you tube video on Shanking by far. Just worked out I am shanking because of an over the top wedge swing. Draw all of my irons except wedges so prob should have worked it out myself....Started to swing the wedges inside on my backswing and problem solved. Subscribed
Great stuff Dave, thanks for subscribing!
You're truly the only one to cover this very topic. I've been suffering of shanks on chips and pitches for a few years and it's made the game an ordeal and almost quit.. It comes and goes but it's been improving by controlling my dippy takeaway where I was moving towards ball but I'm definitely going to use those drills to reinforce the proper movement. Thanks a lot!
Thanks Stephane, sounds like you're on the right track by identifying the move towards the ball on the backswing. Good job!
Really exceptional videos. Thank you vv
Thanks 👍🏻
Great stuff chap…
👊🏻
Thank you.
fantastic video
Thanks for watching!
Good Morning James - I've just stumbled across your easy avoid shanks video , great explanation 👍, I was chipping and pitching like a wizard last year , this year suddenly terrified of even the shortest of chips, watching your video I think I'm in-to out and driving at the ball but I'll try your simple set up to identify exactly what's going on, Many Thanks, I've subscribed and look forward to seeing further tips

Hi Garry, let me know how it goes!
@@JamesRidyardGolf Eh Up James - really good, some tension at first but soon relaxed and started feeling the distance, Great Explanation - Many Thanks Garry B in Manchester UK
The chipping shank bothers me a lot. Thanks for the video!
sometimes my short chips ( approx. 25 yds ) will squirt severely right...pretty sure my club face is opening too much at impact and not due to hitting the hosel ...what can I check or do to help .....thanks much
Best explanation of causes and solutions! Thx James.
Thanks Ron! 👊🏻
Thank you.😊😊😊😊
Welcome 😊
My biggest problem through 5-6 years now. Done everything to avoid it, but no … therefore I bought myself a chipper.
Only problem here is getting over a bunker or water where I can’t use the chipper 😚
Love finally getting a most logical explanation, but afraid I'm now married to my successful, on-course, external focus. 🙂 Have learnt to "thump" my "bounce" (and trust it) on a particular area of the ground/grass, both an inch and a half "inside" of and an inch or so "ahead" of the ball. Were I to start keeping my hands in closer, I'd feel certain that that hard old ball would knock the club right out of my hands before I could deliver the club head to that bit of grass now only "ahead" of the ball - right back to the same yips that drove me out of the game 25 years ago. Well, I "usually" trust it. 🙂 Turning "through" the chip or pitch requires near constant reinforcement. With an open-faced sand wedge out of the rough, it's two and a half inches inside the ball. . .
I'll always take and external focus over internal 👍🏻
@@JamesRidyardGolf Yeah, but I also watched your demo of 20 or 30 different variables for height and spin directions and realized that I can never have that - as if I'd ever put in *that* level of work. Watching you teach your wife made up for that, anyway. 🙂
I shank by subconsciously compensating for thinning. My thinning is caused by a slight lift trying not to chunk. So now that I lift I try extend to not lift thus exposing the hosel = shank. I go back to 1” chips then 2,3,4,5,6 “ all the way to one foot chips. Yips are 90% mental and the other half physical!!😂
James, at 2:02, you can clearly hear someone cry out, either in pain or frustration. Hit by a ball, perhaps? Or maybe they are a good old in-to-out shanker in need of this standard-defining lesson. Who knows? 😂
Haha it was a guy on the adjacent fairway who just hit a bad shot! I cut my immediate reaction out but couldn't quite hide the scream! 😂
@James Ridyard love it 😆
