I used the tips presented in this video today in a 9 hole round. Shot 36, 2 shots lower than my previous best on this course. Even more satisfying were the pitch shots and wedge shots at critical points in the round. On 18 I had 40 yards left to a tight front pin. I took my 56 and almost holed it. Made the four footer for birdie, one of three in the round. Thank you from a new fan.

This video helped me immensely. I was so utterly frustrated with having a great tee shot, decent long irons, and then taking 5 more shots to get up & down. Explanation was spot on. Thank you sir for a very well presented tutorial. The shanks get “in my head” and I question myself when I address the ball. Much appreciated.

Every now and then in my round of golf I'm hitting a very disappointing shank with my wedge and lately even with my 6 iron. I've been trying some great suggestions like putting more weight on the heels throughout the swing or address the ball a little upright but no improvement so far. After watching your video, I'm now very eager to follow your suggestions on how to eliminate the shank forever. Thank you so very much for your very informative and easy to understand instructions. It also seems to have cured the overswing too! was so impressed that I had to go back to the range to hit 4 more buckets just to make sure and all of them were out of the middle of the club - Thank you

Hands down the best pitch shot advice on CZcams. A shank will sneak into my pitch shot about once every other round, even my my best days. I’m a 4 handicap at my home course & I still find a way to shank that half swing 50 degree wedge every other round. This makes perfect sense as to why, my take away is too flat & the club face cant get square. Definitely going to keep this in mind during this weekends tournament.

shanking chip shots, so I set up 2 range rods like a small train track & chip in it. I get great feed back on the shots, because if don't swing
correctly you will hit either track. my chipping is back where I want it.

Any ideas? When I keep the club in front I get steep and diggy. Not a problem in the full swing and playing off 5, but happens a lot when I try to do the movement you’re advocating

I thought this was the issue. I’ve been struggling with shanks - horrible. I do naturally come inside but it seems my issue is there is not enough room between me and the grip. After adjusting my setup, standing over the ball more, not on my toes but just right shank was gone. I think this setup change helped a whole bunch of issues, made club less inside and stopped my hands separating from my body. Great clear video

I'm here because I haven't shanked a chip in a couple years...and then last week, during a round in which I chipped amazingly - a few tap-ins from 40-70yds - and even flopped a shot to 2in from deep rough on a steep downhill lie pin, I had weird thoughts creep up out of nowhere on Hole 16 and shanked two straight chips from the intermediate cut. I don't think I could shank from the intermediate cut if I literally tried to but it happened during my round.
Well, we golfers know that once the shank gets in our head it rents the whole property. I ended up shanking another easy chip on Hole 18 to turn a confident part of my game into a literal nightmare.
    I'm skeered...

I have range of motion problems in my shoulders. One was operated on and the other is going to be operated on soon. I can go from hitting the ball clean, to shanking every shot within the same golf session. Granted I will go out and hit a few hundred balls at a time. So, some of it is fatigue. Your rake is similar to some thing I found that has helped me tremendously. I line up a ball or tee peg and then put another ball on the inside of that. I line up at address for the outside tee peg /ball take my backswing and then hit the inside ball. This is totally counterintuitive because I was hitting either the hosel or the heel. So, I thought I should back up to hit more in the center of the club face (that didn’t work). I was having a swing path problem. A good exercise to demonstrate this is to put two tee’s just wide enough apart for the club face to get through during your swing. This not only helps with correcting path problems but it also diagnoses where you are hitting the ball. When I am shanking, I inevitably hit that far tee peg and it surprises me because I have excellent hand eye coordination. Finally, something I noticed when I am not striking the ball well is that I rush my backswing.

For over 2 years I have been fighting these.
Tried every tip on You Tube, and every golf instruction website.
Practice like hell, hit thousands of balls, will never shank when practicing.
Hit nice nippers with tons of spin that stop on a dime.
Swing feels exactly the same when I go on the course. Shank after shank once I do the first one.
Wedges used to be the strongest point of my game.
    Now they are horrific.
Doesn't matter how much I practice, and how well I strike them during practice.
On the golf course, it's like I've never hit a solid shot with one in my life.
    Absolutely demoralizing.
    Handicap used to be a solid 2. I can't break 85 now.
I hate golf now, I really should quit.
    It's absolutely no fun anymore.

    • @joemarks3719
      @joemarks3719 Pƙed 2 lety +1

@@GolfUniversity It works when practicing, just like most of the rest have. Hit a couple hundred balls, get the confidence back.
      Then go to the course.
Hit a couple good one's in a row, at least 1 birdie.
Then here it comes, I'll have an easy shot with a partial wedge 30-80 yards.
I know I can pull it off, because I have so many times before....lie is good, even have options to run it up if I want.
Commit to the shot I think is the better percentage, know if I hit it properly, there is a high percentage to make birdie, a possibility of holing out is present as well.
Make a few practice swings to be sure the club is staying in front.
Visualize the shot I plan to hit.
Step up and shank the hell out of it. Guaranteed bogey, many doubles, and the occasional triple as well.
Another shank is coming again, always happens again, over and over.
Now I'm mentally completely detached. I just want to get done asap, and leave the course.
I have had a couple rounds of 76 in the past two months where I didn't hit any shanks, but I avoided any wedges from short distances and just rolled the ball to anywhere on the green that I could.
While some believe my expectations are too high, they have no clue of the amount of work I have put in my golf game over the last 30 years.
Usually 10 hours putting, and 10 hitting balls every week, sometimes more, that's now.
When I was younger? 7 hours a day minimum.
I have a launch monitor which helps me keep my full swing a consistent speed, and has increased my average smash factor. It also helped me dial in distances with partial wedges before the shanks.
I've worked really hard on connection in my swing, and shot a 5 under 67 last year as a result.
I have a 7 foot putting mat, actually about the 6th one I've owned, I need to get a 7th, as a groove is worn from use in it.
I start from 3 feet, then go to 4-7. If I miss I start over. Then I putt from 7 feet only to see how many I can make in a row.
99 is the best I've done.
But no matter how well the rest of the game is going, I'm not getting any 7 footers for birdie with a wedge if I shank it, and I'm not even breaking 80 with multiple shanks.
I get so mad sometimes, I know it makes golf less enjoyable for others, which I absolutely don't want to cause.
I've lately just tried to clam up, which I think is actually worse, because then I dwell on shanking.
I feel much better just cursing and flipping my wedge to the ground, and getting rid of the anger right away, but if it's causing others to enjoy the game less, then it's not proper etiquette.
So maybe I should just quit.
It's impossible to shank the ball and enjoy golf.

@@GolfUniversity I finally believe I have this fixed. Last 4 rounds have been 75, 74, 73, and 69. Nothing even close to a shank.
What I started doing is making a practice swing focusing on something just outside the toe of the club, old divot, lighter or darker blade of grass, doesn't matter what it is, but just focus on not allowing the club to contact it during the practice swing.
This ingrains the feel of what my body needs to do in order to deliver the club properly.
Occasionally I forget to do it, and I back off and do it, regardless of how many I have hit in a row.
It's a preshot practice routine I have to do when hitting partial wedges. Only takes 10-15 seconds to do, so I'm not holding up play.
Nothing against your drills for fixing it, but this worked for me. I couldn't tell you what difference there is in my swing, I just know what it needs to feel like by doing this routine.
