- This video will teach you how to fix your shanks in 5 minutes. These 3 keys to fixing your shanks are so simple and easy to implement.
So many people get worried about this shot because it can really get in your head. There is no need to even be worried about shanking the golf ball as these keys are guaranteed to fix your shanks for good.
Even if you don't shank the ball these 3 keys are amazing to helping you improve your ball striking. If you're looking to play better golf then improving your ball striking is crucial.
The 3 keys in the video is mastering your setup but more specifically your balance. If your balance is good then you'll be far more stable through your swing. The second key is having great footwork in the downswing. Making sure your trail leg doesn't kick in towards the ball will put you in the best possible position to make solid contact at impact. Finally controlling your trail arm in the downswing making sure you can get good shaft lean at impact will cure your shank and instantly improve your ball striking.

A great instruction video. I'm a singe-figure player and struggling with the shanks. I've never seen the causes explained so clearly (and definitely never in one place) or to have sensible, practical drills to solve them. I'll be heading to the range tomorrow to get things sorted. Thank you.
Hope this helps
Great video, probably one of the best I’ve seen for low handicap shank problems, I’ve never heard anyone talk about balance point from my arm pits, I’ve just compared a shank to a good strike and on the shank my arm pit line was through the middle of my feet, where as the good strike was through the laces, we’re talking centimetres, this game is ridiculous 😂
It is ridiculous but unfortunately that is golf 😂
Even with some serious tendonitis in both wrists, your drills really helped me stopped the shanking and left pull shots with my wedges. One of the worst things about shanking is the negative thought that you will shank. I practice in my backyard with the almost golf ball and hit 80 to 120 foot shots. The almost golf ball goes 1/3 the distance of a real ball but a wonderful training shot ball. Thanks again Giles and that head cover under the arm pit during the swing is a super tip.☺Sincerely, Bill M., Uncasville, CT
That’s amazing. It’s great to hear that this video has helped you fix your shanks
Best video I have seen on this sorry topic. Had these for years on and off . How do you get 1-2-1 tuition?
Unfortunately I’m fully booked till the end of the year for in person coaching. Only coaching available is online coaching which is all done via the Skillest App
As always, best golf instructional videos. Thank you for your outstanding lessons.
You’re very welcome! Glad you’re enjoying them!
I've been a single figure player for decades and always plagued with the odd shanks. Worse on practice mats because the club slides. The part relating to the early straightening of the the trail arm I've never heard before. Definitely what I'm doing. Thanks so much.
No problem! Hope this cures them for good!
Very good tips .. thank you very much
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Giles, Perfect!
No problem!
The dreaded shank has occasionally crept back into my game over the last few days, especially with chips shots. I very rarely do normally. Thanks for a great, instructional video, Giles. much appreciated.
Hope this helps get rid of it for good
Fantastic video. A must watch for all high handicappers like me.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Great video!
Thank you Harry
Fantastic drills!
Thank you!
Thank you for the "move the right knee toward the left knee" tip. That was my problem! I had degraded to to "round house" swing instead of the "left shift" swing. Millions times better! You got a sub!
Amazing! Glad it helped
What a great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Exceptional breakdown
Thank you!
I just want to say thank you. I have been watching so many videos on what was causing my shanks. I guess I watched one video to many and was lifting my trail leg way to soon, I am 59 and my hip rotation are years behind me. I was ready to sell out.
Hope this helps you get back on track
Excellent video Giles on which poor body movement could cause a shank! I am probably guilty of standing too close to the ball, poor hip movement through the ball, and straightening the right arm prior to impact. When a shank does occur, which isn't too often, it usually happens on short pitch shots to the green. Now I have focal points when it does happen to look to. Good Job Giles!
Hi John, I have a video coming out soon that will help you with your pitch shots!
Brilliant, I'm going thru the shanks atm and feeling too embarrassed at the range. I felt like my golf was at a good place last year. But I feel totally lost atm. This is the best video I've found, I will take it to the range with me and figure out where I'm going wrong.
Check out some of my full swing videos and if you need 1 to 1 help i offer online lessons so I can pin point the root cause
@@Gilesgillgolf the throwing a ball and keeping your ear in line with the ball really helped thank so much. I will look into the online lessons thanks
@@glenda88 amazing glad they helped. Ready and waiting
Been struggling with the shanks for the last few weeks. Went through an entire bucket of range balls today and couldn't figure out what was going on. I think it is the trailside kick, looking forward to giving this a shot this week.
Good luck!
Will give these a try. Ta , Giles
Let me know how it goes
@@Gilesgillgolf when the course reopens!
Can a cause be firing arms from top before body?
If you fire them out then yes
The main problem with the drill of head cover in arm pit u can't get any width in your backswing. You're never going to swing like that.
You can do. Your arm will just be more externally rotated. However when giving players that drill I only tell them to do 3/4 swings
How does the third reason (trail arm straightening) correlate to your video czcams.com/video/FTqpEaJfJL4/video.html
You mentioned straightening the right arm in your downswing in the past video as a key move.
@@benny996 yes but the right arm won’t fully straighten till after impact. Players who shank it will fully straighten the arm before impact
Thanks for clarification 👍👍
@@benny996 no worries mate
Too close to the ball or slowing down the swing if you previously shanked in your round,by slowing the swing through tension in your arms causes the head to lift leading to an open clubface rather than a pure shank. That's the outcome of not knowing when.
Nice
would love to see black socks
Will do 😂
@@Gilesgillgolf I love your sense of humor Bro.
@@gabardjean-paul3779 Thanks haha
