      Hello there! Welcome to the SCM club, you are in for a ride! Good luck with your classes. If I can give you one tip for a better outcome with your program, is to network. Networking with fellow students, with your instructors, with anyone you come across that is an active professional, is a good way of making connections with people you will likely get to work with, so you can start building your network and use those connections later in your career.

      Hello there! 😄 Thank you so much for your kind words and support! I'm absolutely thrilled that you find our supply chain content useful and enjoyable. Making this field easier and lighter for you is what we're all about! 🌟🚚
      Now, when it comes to managing supply chain people, there are some fantastic diploma and short certificate options that can add immense value to your skillset. Here are a couple of recommendations:
      1️⃣ Supply Chain Management Certification: Look for certifications offered by reputable organizations or institutions that focus specifically on supply chain management and leadership. These programs often cover essential topics like team management, communication, problem-solving, and optimizing supply chain operations.
      2️⃣ Leadership and Management Courses: Exploring courses on leadership and management can be incredibly beneficial for handling supply chain teams effectively. They provide insights into motivating teams, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills - all crucial aspects of successful supply chain management.
      3️⃣ Communication and Negotiation Training: Effective communication and negotiation are vital when managing supply chain people. Consider enrolling in courses that help you improve your communication techniques, negotiation strategies, and interpersonal skills.
      4️⃣ Project Management Certification: Managing projects within the supply chain requires specialized skills. Pursuing a project management certification can equip you with the tools to plan, execute, and oversee supply chain projects efficiently.
      Remember, the best certification or diploma for you depends on your specific career goals, current knowledge, and experience level. Look for courses that align with your interests and will complement your existing expertise in supply chain management.

      I think all business administration related areas do not have a complicated mathematical background.
      It’s important to be able to analyze data and numbers and make appropriate conclusions but the mathematics behind in general is simple.

    • @MVCLogisticsAcademy
      @MVCLogisticsAcademy  Před rokem +11

      Hello there, and thank you for commenting and for your patience.
      As a career coach, my advice for someone who has a poor interest in mathematics and wants to do well in supply chain management would be to focus on developing their problem-solving skills and gaining a deep understanding of the concepts and principles that underpin supply chain management.
      While mathematics is an important part of supply chain management, it is not the only factor that determines success in the field. There are other skills and qualities that are just as important, such as critical thinking, analytical skills, communication skills, and attention to detail.
      To develop these skills and gain a better understanding of supply chain management, I would recommend the following tips:
      -Focus on the fundamentals: Start by learning the fundamentals of supply chain management, including the basic concepts, principles, and terminology used in the industry.
      -Find your strengths: Identify your strengths and focus on developing those areas where you excel. For example, if you have good communication skills, focus on developing your ability to collaborate with others and build strong relationships.
      -Build problem-solving skills: Supply chain management involves identifying and solving complex problems. To do well in this field, focus on developing your problem-solving skills through practice and by seeking out challenging assignments.
      -Seek out mentors: Look for experienced professionals in the field who can provide guidance and mentorship. They can help you gain insights into the industry and provide valuable advice on how to succeed.
      -Take advantage of educational opportunities: There are many educational programs and certifications available in supply chain management. Consider enrolling in a program or taking a course to gain a deeper understanding of the field.
      Overall, while mathematics is an important part of supply chain management, it is not the only factor that determines success in the industry. By focusing on developing problem-solving skills, building on strengths, seeking out mentorship, and taking advantage of educational opportunities, anyone can do well in supply chain management regardless of their interest in mathematics.

    • @MVCLogisticsAcademy
      @MVCLogisticsAcademy  Před rokem +1

      Hello, thank you for commenting and for your patience in a reply.
      As a career coach, my advice to someone considering a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management at Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota would be to first evaluate their career goals and research alternative programs to ensure they are making the best decision for their career.
      Some alternatives to consider might include:
      MBA with a concentration in supply chain management: Many MBA programs offer a concentration in supply chain management, which can provide a broader business perspective while still providing relevant coursework in supply chain management.
      Online or part-time programs: Online or part-time programs can provide flexibility for working professionals to continue working while pursuing their degree.
      Industry certifications: Industry certifications such as the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) can provide specialized knowledge and demonstrate a commitment to the field.
      When evaluating different programs, it's important to consider factors such as program reputation, curriculum, faculty, alumni network, and job placement outcomes. Researching industry trends and the job market can also help to ensure that the program will provide relevant skills and knowledge for the candidate's career goals.
      Ultimately, the decision to pursue a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management or an alternative program will depend on your individual career goals, background, and preferences. As a career coach, I would encourage my students to carefully consider their options, research programs thoroughly, and seek advice from professionals they know in those areas before making a decision. Hope that helps, thanks for watching 🙂😊

      Absolutely, it sounds like you're on a fantastic academic journey! 🌟 Studying History and diplomatic studies is a wonderful foundation, as it sharpens your analytical skills and provides context for understanding global dynamics. Combining that with an MBA in Supply Chain Management (SCM) is an excellent choice! 🌍⛓️
      Supply Chain Management (SCM) is all about efficient coordination and collaboration, and your diplomatic studies could offer unique insights into negotiation strategies and international relations, which are invaluable in the SCM field. Moreover, diving into data analytics complements this blend perfectly. In today's data-driven world, being able to extract meaningful insights from data is a superpower that can enhance your decision-making skills in supply chain scenarios. 📊💡
      Your diverse skill set will not only make you a unique candidate in the job market but will also equip you with a well-rounded perspective, allowing you to tackle challenges from multiple angles. Keep up the great work, and if you ever need more insights or guidance, don't hesitate to reach out. Best of luck with your studies and future endeavors! 😊🎓✨

If you are in production engineering, I think that is a great foundation for a career in supply chain, but rather than going straight away for a Masters, I would recommend getting a certification in supply chain. A certification could work as a way to beef up your resume, and also give you an insight into what a full masters degree may look like if you decide do it later on in your career. As a career coach, my advice to someone with a bachelor's degree in ECE who plans to do a master's in supply chain management would be to focus on internships and entry-level positions that allow them to gain hands-on experience in the field. Here are some specific suggestions:
      -Supply chain analyst intern: An internship as a supply chain analyst can provide valuable experience in areas such as inventory management, demand forecasting, and logistics planning.
      -Procurement intern: A procurement internship can provide exposure to supplier management, contract negotiation, and cost analysis.
      -Logistics coordinator: Entry-level positions such as logistics coordinator can provide opportunities to learn about transportation planning, shipment tracking, and warehouse management.
      -Supply chain planner: Supply chain planners are responsible for creating production schedules and coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials. This role can provide valuable experience in supply chain planning and execution.
      -Operations analyst: An operations analyst is responsible for analyzing data to identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction. This role can provide exposure to supply chain optimization and process improvement techniques.
      When applying for these positions and internships, it's important to highlight relevant coursework and experience in ECE, as well as any relevant skills such as data analysis, project management, and problem-solving. Additionally, networking and attending career fairs can help to increase your chances of finding relevant opportunities and connecting with industry professionals.
      Overall, for someone with a bachelor's degree in ECE who plans to do a master's in supply chain management, internships and entry-level positions such as supply chain analyst, procurement intern, logistics coordinator, supply chain planner, and operations analyst can provide valuable hands-on experience in the field. Networking and attending career fairs can also be helpful in finding relevant opportunities and making connections in the industry. I hope that helps, and thank you for watching our channel 🙂😊

    • @MVCLogisticsAcademy
      @MVCLogisticsAcademy  Před 4 měsíci

      Hey there! Absolutely, I'd love to explain the role of an Expeditor!
      An Expeditor plays a crucial role in the supply chain and procurement process. 🌟 Their main responsibility is to ensure that goods, materials, or parts needed for production or projects are delivered on time. They act as the bridge between different departments, suppliers, and the production team, making sure everything flows smoothly and according to schedule.
      Some key tasks of an Expeditor include:
      Tracking Orders: They monitor and track orders from the moment they're placed until they reach their destination. This involves staying on top of shipping schedules, coordinating with suppliers, and verifying delivery dates.
      Communication: They act as a communication hub, keeping everyone informed about the status of orders, any delays, or changes in schedules. Clear and timely communication is key!
      Problem-solving: If there are any hiccups or issues in the supply chain, the Expeditor jumps into action, finding solutions to ensure minimal disruptions in production or project timelines.
      Quality Control: They may also be involved in checking the quality of incoming materials or goods to ensure they meet the required standards before being used in production.
      In a nutshell, the Expeditor is like the conductor of an orchestra, ensuring that all the different components come together harmoniously and on time to keep operations running smoothly!
      If you're interested in logistics or supply chain roles, understanding the role of an Expeditor is a fantastic starting point. Hope this helps! If you have more questions or need further info, feel free to ask. 🚚📦✨

      Hello there, Thank you for your comment.
      When I said "learned to manage people" it refers to the process of acquiring skills, knowledge, and abilities to effectively lead and oversee a team of individuals in a professional setting. For me, that meant developing the necessary competencies to guide, motivate, and support my team so we can all achieve the company's organizational goals and our own individual growth.
      When you learn to manage people, you focus on understanding and addressing the needs and aspirations of your team members while creating an environment that fosters collaboration, productivity, and personal development. Hope that answers your question.

      I am also working on getting certified while working in procurement and as a business Admin graduate and having knowledge of how systems work and possibly able to create automations in processes or able to effectively implement ERP systems may provide an advantage while you solve problems and as a leader.
      I think having a CS + supply chain certification could provide advantages. It would also be very advantageous to have a combination of Commerce/Business degree and Supply Management certification. As you make your decision, look at job postings in Supply chain management and observe the skills they usually need plus education required or contact professionals on linkedIn and ask them of their experience in the industry.

    • @MVCLogisticsAcademy
      @MVCLogisticsAcademy  Před rokem +1

      Hello there, I think a double major in CompSci and SCM is a great move. I know a lot of people that work as a Project Managers for a company that makes supply chain related software solutions (like WMS systems or ERP or demand planning tools) and they make great money (U.S. Standards) I think another advantage is that you have more flexibility if you are looking to work remotely or have a more flexible schedule.
      You can take on a more technology/business career path, or if you are more in the COMPSCI side, you can take a programming and application development career within the SCM industry. There has been a big shift since the COVID Pandemic for more demand driven and agile supply chains, and companies want to reflect that in their workforce. That means that companies will need more data analytics, AI, big data, and general technology expertise. This has also increase the need for positions like IT business analysts, Smart business partner managers, relationship managers, or other roles where you're the connector between supply chain organizations and IT organizations. At the moment, there are not a lot of people who specialize in this so it can be lucrative in my opinion.
      Hope that helps!

      If you're looking for a classic, "Operations and Supply Chain Management" by F. Robert Jacobs and Richard B. Chase is a highly regarded textbook used in many academic programs. It covers essential concepts and real-world examples.
      As for "Chopra & Meindl," "Supply Chain Management: Strategy, Planning, and Operation" by Sunil Chopra and Peter Meindl is indeed a highly recommended book. It's widely used in academic settings and provides in-depth insights into supply chain strategy and operations.

    • @MVCLogisticsAcademy
      @MVCLogisticsAcademy  Před 4 měsíci

      Hey there! What a great question! 😊 Computer science and supply chain are actually quite different but equally important in their own ways.
      Computer Science: It's all about technology, coding, algorithms, and creating software. It's like the brains behind everything digital! 🖥️💡
      Supply Chain: On the other hand, it's the backbone of how products move from manufacturers to customers. It involves planning, logistics, sourcing, and managing the flow of goods. 🌐🚚
      Now, are they more important than each other? Not really! They're just different pieces of a bigger puzzle. Computer science enables innovation and efficiency in the digital realm, while supply chain ensures that the physical goods we use every day get to where they need to be.
      Think of it this way: Computer science helps optimize and automate many aspects of the supply chain, making it run smoother and smarter. They're like partners in crime, each bringing something unique to the table!
      So, which one's more important? It really depends on what you're passionate about and what you see yourself diving into. Both fields offer amazing opportunities and have a significant impact on the world in their own awesome ways! 🌟🌐💻

      hello, and thank you for commenting,
      As a career coach, I would say that having experience in supply chain management can be beneficial for a young professional looking to enter the industry, but it is not always a requirement.
      Supply chain management is a complex field that involves the coordination of various activities, such as sourcing, procurement, logistics, and inventory management. It is an area where attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities are highly valued.
      While having experience in supply chain management can give a young professional a better understanding of the industry's intricacies, it is not always necessary. Many companies offer entry-level positions that provide on-the-job training, allowing new hires to learn about the supply chain industry while gaining valuable experience.
      Additionally, there are many educational programs, certifications, and training courses that young professionals can take to gain a basic understanding of supply chain management. These programs can provide the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in the industry.
      Overall, having experience in supply chain management can be an advantage for a young professional entering the industry, but it is not always a requirement. Thank you for your comment. You have many ways to get into a career in Supply Chain.
      1) If you have experience, it would make sense to get a certification in a related field to see how much you know and can learn from it. If you feel ready (financially and mentally) for a full degree in business degree or in supply chain management, then there are great programs online from accredited universities. Here is great link with a list of institutions offering SCM degrees:
      thebestschools.org/rankings/bachelors/best-online-bachelors-supply-chain-logistics/
      2) If you have no experience, I would say definitely take a certification course first to see if you like the field, and if you can see yourself doing it in the long-term. Once you finish this certification, I would say start with an entry-level Supply Chain job that can get your foot in the door.
      Hope that helps, and if you still have questions and are you are looking for more one-on-one planning, We are offering a great Supply Chain Career Development Masterclass that dives deep into planning your path in this field.

      @MVCLogisticsAcademy  Před 2 lety

      Thank you for your comment.
      In my opinion, yes it is an industry where you can grow and it can be rewarding. However, it does depend on the level of experience you have and how well you prepare yourself for that growth. The beauty about supply chain management (SCM) is that there are some many different areas you can go into. It touches on almost every aspect of business in general, so depending on what skills you already have, you can try to fit them into a more specific area of SCM. For example, if you have worked in sales then you can transition into a procurement position because you know how to negotiate and make deals that can save the company money and time. Also, you can fill in the gaps in your skills or experience with some certifications and further training in SCM.
      I found a great resource with plenty of information about the SCM market in Canada, and I have added the link below if you are interested. Hope it helps you in your journey.

      Oh No! I hear you, I struggled with that at first too because I was very much an introvert, and did not like interacting with people too much. But, the good news was that once you establish a relationship with those people they trust you more to do things well and they don't feel the need to constantly check in over the phone or in person. They slowly see that the systems you put in place are working well, and you interact less with them on daily things. There is still the occasional check-in and chat about how things are going, and if there is a big problem, you bet they will want to call or drop in, but that is manageable and not as jarring once you get the hang of it.

      hello there, thank you for commenting.
      While it is true that the field of supply chain can be fast-paced and challenging, it is important to recognize that individual experiences and job satisfaction can vary significantly. Your experience reflects a personal negative experience after ten years in the field, but it does not necessarily represent the experiences of all supply chain professionals. It is totally valid, and upsetting to me that someone doesn't enjoy this field. But, I do want to point out that Supply chain management offers a wide range of career opportunities in various industries and sectors. While one person may have had a negative experience, which again is totally valid and something we need to consider, there are also many others who have found fulfillment and success in their supply chain careers. It could be worth it to explore different roles within the supply chain field or transitioning to a different industry. This can provide new and exciting challenges that align better with your individual interests and aspirations.
