  • This video documents how I got P1217 (engine overheating) condition and some learning experiences I had to go through in resolving the problem.
    Engine overheating is one of the quickest way to kill the engine. Do not take coolant level or condition lightly.
    Some lessons learned from this experience:
    1. Coolant reservoir doesn't always reflect the coolant level in the radiator.
    2. Periodically check the condition of coolant hoses and clamps, especially before taking a long trip.
    3. If you drain and refill, even if you warm up the car, the heat may not come on until you actually drive the car for few minutes.
    4. Realize that visual inspection of coolant fluid condition can be misleading.

    This was enjoyable to watch. I also own two Muranos and I take good care of them

      It’s definitely roomy and versatile. The only major gripe I had was interior dashboard melting and cracking on me that’s hard to repair.

    My Nissan Altima just had similar problems, code 1217 but now it has trouble starting, I will do a video on it as well

      did you figure out why your car is not starting? i have that code too but the car will not start it just turns over.

    Same thing happened to me, just last night. My car won’t start and starts shaking really bad

      You are leaking coolant? If so don’t drive it until you get it fixed. Overheating engine can kill it. If you have other problems, are you getting any check engine code?

      You probably got it sorted by now but my aunt's car did the same thing, overheated then threw the check engine light and started violently surging. I really thought she blew the engine lol I let it cool off but only after I cleared the codes with a scan tool did it stop surging. I think it may be was in some sort of low power mode... I'm replacing the radiator (for a leak) and the thermostat to hopefully clear up the overheating issue.

    Next time run your heat on max speed it makes it coop off better❤

      I can see how that can help some to relieve engine temperature, but running low on coolant will not overcome overheating so it’s best to not to drive to avoid losing the engine.

    If it gets hot, would putting the heat on help?

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  Před rokem

      Probably not. My engine overheated because hose came out and leaked coolant. Without sufficient coolant, the engine can’t be cooled. Another common way is if thermostat or water pump goes bad and doesn’t let coolant circulate to cool the engine.
      It doesn’t take too long to kill the engine if you drive during overheated condition so this has to be fixed right away.

      Good to know. Good thing I was very close to home as the check engine came on.

    I just bought a 09 Murano and replaced the Accelerator pedal sensor and got no results. (I was told it was the accelerator pedal sensor) It doesn't rev up. Is this the limp mode low tranny fluid? I didn't check it. I did hear a loud whining when 1st started, I thought it was the pw steering pump.

    did u figure out the dangking small hose?

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  Před rokem

      Nope but I saw it on another Murano repair video that had the same hose dangling like mine. So it must be by design. LOL

      @kayjay4060 Před 3 měsíci

      Breather hose for something. Likely transmission. I don't know for sure, but it's common to have, and in the right area. It's designed to allow the transmission to breathe, while not losing fluid. It should be open like that.

  • @LilyWillow22
    @LilyWillow22 Před rokem

    Thermostat?

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  Před rokem

      Thermostat is what’s allowing or blocking coolant from cooling the engine. When engine first starts, it’s cool, so thermostat is closed but once engine warms up to operating temperature (usually around 190f degrees, thermostat opens so that coolant can circulate through the engine to cool it.
      If coolant level is low, or broken thermostat or water pump is not circulating the coolant through engine, then engine can overheat and literally destroy itself within minutes of driving. Do not drive in this condition and have it serviced immediately. It could be simply low on coolant.
