    Real world repair videos like this are more valuable than ones where the thing is restored like new. You get to see just how much leeway there can be in some circuits and what you can get away with.

    Yet another successful solution ! A repair is a repair "dodgy or otherwise" it is about being competitive ! All the customer requirements are , their device returned to them competently and professionally repaired at a reasonable price ! The machinations of the repair seldom have interest or are required by the customer !! Nice repair Sorin.....

    Hello🤝 you teach us how to repair things, using what we have at hand and at the cheapest possible cost, that's why everyone is happy, as you once mentioned, why shouldn't I repair something just because I don't have the original part? Yesterday I had an accident with my Huawei tablet, the charging port was broken. and pulled out the protection diode, when I replaced the diode and soldered a new port, it turned out to be a short circuit, after half an hour of checking everything, it turned out that Huawei had imagined that he would replace the plus with the minis in the port and that's why after soldering an identical port I had a short circuit, I found it a different port and I modified it to suit my needs and now I have a working tablet for PLN 0, so never change, you are my mentor for everything I have learned, I owe it to you, thank you and have a nice day.

    Thank you for mentioning why there are 25V on the mosfet gate, I always wondered where this slightly higher voltage comes from. So it's generated by one of the managemant ICs and needed to fully open the mosfets. Good to know, thanks! o)

    About that earlier backlight repair, in my practice there are a lot of cases where the cable is damaged inside, the pwm or enable wire is cut off inside. If you just short them then at some moment in the future a bad thing can happen inside the cable, the open end of the wire can short to the conductive shield of the cable. If the cable is not cut off, now you are sending 3.3V to the EC, which can later make it burn further even more, to the point of not working at all. So if you are doing a job by shorting enable with pwm, you should make sure that you are not "feeding" the voltage to the EC, by cutting that track.

    • @electronicsrepairschool
      @electronicsrepairschool  Před 9 měsíci +7

      Actually not, it's a matter of 'Kirchhoff's current law for nodes' based on the fact i got backlight means i have no power draw on the pwm track, means the track is floating, means is safe. That's the first thing you check when you apply current to a power/signal rail, the current draw, NOT the voltage

    • @juozask.446
      @juozask.446 Před 9 měsíci +4

      @electronicsrepairschool you are correct and i agree with you, however, i had cases where even if there is no significant current being drawn at the moment, it can start drawing it later, because the "burnt zone" inside of a damaged chip have a probability to be somewhat "unstable" to some degree, it is not 100%, or, in other words quite impossible to predict how it will behave when time goes on, it is still deteriorating as time goes, even without voltage being applied. I think you have probably stumbled upon some burnt mosfets or chips, that can appear as shorting or half-shorting at one moment, but later they can change their "behaviour", it is an interesting thing to see, as if they are a bit alive, if you know what i mean. Same with capacitors.
      Or for example, when we are searching for a short by injecting voltage to some rail. Lots of people make the mistake by starting with too high current, there are a lot of cases in my practice when starting with a 0.1A current there still is a short, but i cant find a heat source, so i ramp up the current to 0.4A, make a quick search for a heat source, and then after not finding it i turn it up to 1A, after which it stops shorting, and it means that i missed a chance to find it by being too quick, while i should have searched a bit longer with 0.4A and not hurry too much with ramping it up, because now it means that some unstable component (a cap for example) stopped shorting, but later it can start again.
      The 3V that is being used for pwm or enable are low current signals, that is true, however, as the burnt zone can still be somewhat unstable by itself, we should make sure to cut the track, so that it will not start pulling the signal down any time later, i am just saying from my practice that there is such a chance. Sometimes just out of interest i even measure how many kiloohms/megaohms does the burnt EC pin has to ground, and a lot of times the kiloohms are quite low, and (surprise!) even fluctuating without doing anything. In some cases fluctuating enough that the 3V signal can be pulled down hard enough to make a difference, especially when the temperature inside the EC chip changes, when computer heats up.
      As i said i agree with you, just saying that it is not too hard to cut a track to be more sure, even if its a cheap repair. I had cases when the 3V level is still being interpreted as "high level", while in fact its on the edge of it, say for example 2V or even lower, and its fluctuating without any guarantee that it will not drop too low at some time. And later when customer comes again, you can lose valuable time that you saved earlier after all, taking it apart again, etc, if you see my point? Anyway, great job and good luck!

      @@ch2o2 Yeah, i was thinking after and realized that and was thinking of maybe running a couple of wires from the brightness circuit to a small pot which you could put on the side maybe after drilling hole. If you knew this well, you could do for customer without too much time wasted as many have pointed out, night playing , you need brightness way down. • @incandescentwithrage

      What would be the purpose?
      Flux helps produce nice joints, prevent bridges and remove oxidation.
      It doesn't lower the melting point of solder when removing things.
      You could see from the discoloured pads, the component got hot enough to partially weld / braze itself to the board.

And in this video with that welded mosfet i would have simply used a 4 or 5amp fuse wire because that new mosfet now is not glued to the motherboard and it will have a hard path to dissipate the heat and could burn again.
