Do you think the DDR5 is a mistake on this? 🤔
I agree, DDR-4 will make this a more affordable board.
This is my fallback from the Asus ROG Strix Z690-i Gaming Wifi because that board has some major incompabilities with air-coolers like the NH-D14 and probably every tower cooler out there. So, for that reason I am happy this board is still "high end" and has DDR5 support.
On a side-note, I disagree with Asus design choices for their high-end ITX boards as of late, trying to cram all that crap on there. No one building ITX machines cares about that stuff.
Yup.
Perhaps ASUS will release a DDR4 version of this board.
DDR4 has been for almost 5 years, DDR5 is the future. its still expensive now because its too new. but when need change to DDR5 then will need change motherboard and all parts.
Reconsider the conclusion here based on the 13th gen CPUs and current DDR5 RAM prices. I think this board was actually just ahead of its time. DDR5 has become cheaper and much more available, but funny to see how conservative the community really is/was towards new gen RAM.
Thanks for making this video and going through each component on the board so thoroughly. I didn't realize that the S/PDIF that is normally routed to the backpanel of the ATX board could be somewhere integrated on an ITX board. It's one of the features that I just cannot have a PC without.
I been following your video editing builds, and they are just great. Thank you for putting together that kind of content!
Thanks for the kind comment!
I have this and i've never been more satisfied with a non Z motherboard . Excellent features . I ran a 13700K on this and i was very pleased . And the bios is actually full of features for a B . And it's running 6400 mhz 32Cl ram also, even OC ed to 6800 and it worked ,great circuitry on the pcb side
it says max 4800mhz what happened
@@altiboxtv9570 bro it doesnt matter what intel says . intel chips can run up to 8000mhz ram on top notch motherboards .
Very nice and informative video, thank you!
I’m loving this motherboard and have built two system with it, one of which is my new personal machine. DDR5 has dropped to near-DDR4 levels, so no complaints at all from me.
Completly right about thay
im fine with the DD5, just finishing up a build for my dad on this mobo with a 12700k, used Kingston Fury 32gb (2x16) 5200mhz.. was $184 for the ram. DDR4 would have been $60 less.. not a deal breaker
Just ordered that same exact RAM for my new build. Didn't think it was too bad, especially for 5200mhz. I am building on the MSI MEG z690i Unify mobo. For some reason this the ASUS b660i was out of stock when I was ordering components.
@@thebogsofmordor7356 same here, bought this board together with a 12400 with DDR5. Thinking about the future, if youre buying a new build today, DDR5 + Intel it is, for me at least.
I think DDR5 should be given to Z690 and X570 (or X670, if that is next) and DDR4 for anything below. As for the design of the board, they should have gone with the ProArt style.
I'd love to have a ProArt ITX motherboard!
@@theTechNotice Don't make me dream! Right now any B660 (or B650 when those get released) that comes out with DDR5 are a waste of good sand. If you build a system that actually needs DDR5 and you want to pay top dollar for it, there is no reason not to go Z690.
As long as the DD5 shortage persists there is no reason to release B-mobo's with it.
seems like it was too late when they realised the low supply for DDR5.
If they release a ProArt version of any mini itx board, I would buy it right away. Does anyone know if ProArt board have any special system boot screen?
@@theTechNotice so wifi 6 or 6e can you change it?
Thank you very much for the video. This is the motherboard that I have chosen for my setup. Right now ddr5 is well priced and of all the itx motherboards I've seen this is the one I like best for quality-price
Hi, are you planning a build with this motherboard? I would like to see the performance of it like how long can it keep the boost frequency of the CPU.
I totally agree, I was waiting for this motherboard and that's a no no for Asus with DDR5. Thanks for sharing all the information with us!
It's really not that bad. 32gb ddr4 ram costs 150 bucks anyways and I bought 32gb gskill ram from newegg for 260. Only a hundred buck difference. Other MBs are more expensive or don't fit lga 1200 case fans or whatever
Pushing DDR5 on boards is what will help bring the prices down in the most noticable way. This is a constant topic of dispute with every generational advancement.
agreed on the ddr5. i could only order one stick of the kingston 5600 and it cost me $82.23 total from the egg. great job asus on a b660-i! thanks for costing me an extra $100 as i could have got ddr4 for 2x8gb for $75 (3600mhz)
Are there any issues with pump block orientation? The lower M.2 heatsink implies you should be able to install an AIO without tubing being obstructed. DDR5 may not be THAT big an issue if you for for the more budget sticks and not enthusiast sticks.
Weird question - I just ordered this board and planned to use a Samsun 980 pro SSD in the M2 slot. The 2TB with heatsink was the cheaper option vs no heatsink. Would I get the same performance mounting the drive in the 2nd m2 slot beneath the mnotherboard, or do I need to remove the heatsink and use the main m2 CPU slot? I don't think the drive would fit in with the samsung heatsink on.
so do both M.2 slots run at full speed or not due to the reduction in PCIe lanes with the b660 chipset?
Thanks for this pro review. Here in the US, 32gb DDR5-5600 Corsair Vengeance RAM is now down to around $155 USD so this mobo is looking great. Can get a new i5 12600k, this mobo and the RAM for around 600 bucks total. I already have an NZXT H1 mini ITX build, going to upgrade today with these items.
hey there, I'm interested in the same CPU and mono combo. have you installed it yet, how has it worked out?
id look into the 12700 non k version cpu instead of the 600k. you wont be able to use the potential from the 600k and the non k 12700 is a great match for this board.
@@Vlad_Shv indeed! paired with a 3070, youre playing 1440p games with very high settings at 144 fps.
I just bought this mobo with a 12600k, 3070 and 32gb of 52000 ram
I'm noticing that your box says WiFi6E while units shipping in the US are labeled just 6. I wonder if different skus are going out or did you get an early sample? I have never removed one of these larger heatsinks to see if the wifi was onboard or in a socket, I'd like to be able to upgrade and with not open slots that's not an option.
Even assuming DDR5 pricing comes down to better levels in 6 months, I agree ... still not sure about it being 'budget' minded. Then again ... the only thing 'budget' about 'itx' is that an itx build will blow up your budget.
Hahah :) smaller used to be more affordable, not anymore haha
Has it gone down since this was posted? I never bothered to look at the offerings when I heard it was being scalped.
Question, could you unlock all core 4.9 and remove power limits on the
12600k+b660? I am not talking about overclock, i know b660 doesn't allow
cpu oc, my question is regarding removing powerlimits inside bios?
Thank you
yes
Note for any nr200 builders: the 90 degree sata cable can be used on the motherboard, but is facing left instead of right where it could be put to use by routing the cables behind the psu housing, where there is a gap.
I totaly agree with You about memory - it should be DDR4. Or they should make 2 versions, like did it Gigabyte :-)
In your intel igpu test you said intel quick sync can do stuff even 5950X and 3090 can't do. So what does that mean?
We shouldn't get ryzen for editing or ryzen performance will be stutttery and intel is better for editing or what. I'm so comfused in this.
If I go ryzen then I won't have quick sync so my timeline won't be smooth .
Please make a detailed video on this like what you loose going for ryzen instead of intel for creators.
It'll be too helpful if you make a fully detailed video on whether quick sync video alone is a big deal to avoid getting ryzen. Have a look in this topic please.
This ones going in my itx photography machine in the H1 v2
I have a Z370 and planning to upgrade to this board. Apart from DDR5 sticks, can I still mount my Kraken X52 AIO cooler on this board? Considering its LGA1700, I want to know if I also need to replace my cooler.
DDR5 is the future tech spec so I mean while I understand in terms of price/cost might be more if you're trying to cram all that stuff into a small bored might as well be the latest tech, due to the fact that it only has 2 ram slots you're going to need that extra juice. If people can afford to get 4 ddr4 ram sticks surely just two ddr5 ram sticks going to be enough. I tend to stray away from cost being a con because it's not the main thing to look at when you want to build something great.
Just bought 2x16G DDR4 sticks in preparation for a 12th gen ITX build. Now I'm stuck with those DDR4 sticks 🥲 Too bad the Gigabyte b660i board only has 1 m.2 slot
🙈😭
yeah, I use 1 m.2 + sata, on paper it's definitely different but you won't even notice it, especially if you put the less heavy task on the sata
Do you think this is good on a budget build for a creator pc? GIGABYTE B760 AORUS Elite AX (LGA 1700/ Intel/ B760/ ATX/ DDR5/ Triple M.2/ PCIe 4.0/ USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C/WiFi 6E/ 2.5GbE LAN/Q-Flash Plus/PCIe EZ-Latch/Gaming Motherboard)
Do you think Dark Rock TF2 would fit on there with low profile RAM?
hi please help. I have a B660i WiFi motherboard and I bought a 13500 Intel processor for it. No matter how I adjust the integrated GPU in the BIOS, it doesn't appear on my TV. I plug the HDMI cable into the motherboard and there's no image. I can hear Windows logging in, but there's no picture. What could be the problem? Is my motherboard or processor faulty?"
I found this exact motherboard at goodwill. All that's in the box is the motherboard and user manual. How much could I resell it for?
There are more downsides ... Thunderbolt 4 or 3 missing and S/PDIF out But You are right why is DDR 5 insted of 4 ?? Can You make a test ? is it handle i7-12700K on stock ?
hei man, a meshlicious build when? :)))
Have a problem with M.2_1, appeared after installing 13600KF, reverting to 12700 did not fix the issue. Not a Windows issue, does not appear in Bios. Works in M.2_2. Latest Bios, checked and rechecked settings, no bent 1700 pins... forums seem to indicate that other owners have experienced the same problem. Thermalright anti bending frame did not fix the issue either
I want to build the ITX with this board the B660i, yet I need to have the bifurcation facility on the PCIe as with the ASRock B550 which allows the 16 to become 2 x 8 , then I can run 2 x 8 GB graphics for trading screens. Using NVIDIA M4000 cards. Does the 660i have the bifurcation facility
Really amazing board, but I agree that the DDR5 kills it. Absolutely no point in buying DDR5 right now, way more expensive for no real world benefit.
This comment inb4 Intel kills z700 ddr4 in the cradle.
As was mentioned, is there some reason the review board has Intel Wi-Fi 6E but US retailers all seem to have Wi-Fi 6?
To be honest, I don't agree with your point about DDR5.
Sure, DDR5 is expensive, but people moving to this chipset are early adopters and you pay the price like any other new chipset in the past. This time actually we have the avialability of DDR4 on some of the motherboards for people to ease on the money, but that doesn't make DDR5 a bad choice. Actually, it's a great choice and even more importantly, for ITX builds this motherboard is the ONLY choice with DDR5.
You might ask, why is it the only? There are Z690's? True, but as ITX builders we all know that the high end chipsets are aimed at MicroATX and bigger boards to make use of the functionality. This B660 board will do everything the Z690 ITX does, all that extra functionality Z690 should give you, does not work on ITX because you don't have the slots, so you pay a premium for nothing. (Ok, you may have a small advantage if you get into heavy overclocking, but that's it.)
So I'm happy this board was made, DDR5 is the future as the basic DDR5 chips are already on par with maxed out DDR4, you can't upgrade DDR4 anymore, but in a few years all I have to do is buy some new DDR5 DIMMs and you are good to go (instead of buying a whole new motherboard).
I think short term it might not make sense to go with DDR5 from a money perspective, but then again, who goes with ITX if you want to save money?
Long term DDR5 makes complete sense, but not everyone looks beyond the now.
I completely understand where you coming from, but if they wanted to make more sales I think they should've announced ddr4 version first and in 6 months or so released the ddr5 version when ddr5 is actually available. But 100% agree that ddr5 is the future!
I think the CPU m.2 can take a 110 mm drive if you give up the heatsink.
i bought this board and i forgot to read on what ram it takes. Now i'm stuck with building a itx with ddr5 for my first computer. I decided to go all out and get top of the line hardware for my build
I get your point on the ddr5 for sure but you know the industry will push us to ddr5 soon enough so we may as well start buying it now and be done with it. Thanks for sharing bro.
Yeah it’s been 2 months and progress has been minimal.
Some channels reviewing MBs provide you with information concerning the power efficiency of the boards, some discover overclocking capabilities of non-K 12400F. What have I learned from this video beside the specs? Will it rock i9 12th gen at full speed? Can I overclock a budget CPU on this? Only the speculations if one really needs DDR5 in it. Just buy the one with DDR4, what kind of dilemma is this? Does B660 benefits from DDR5, will B660 benefit from DDR5 in the future? Shouldn't you answer these questions and not ask?
You have probably learned nothing. Yes it will but full speed depends on your cooling if it thermal throttles. No you cant overlock on B motherboards with Intel you need z690. This motherboard doesnt't have a ddr 4 version, thats why its a dilemma at the moment. Do you think he can see the future, how would he be able to answer if they will benefit in the future? No one knows yet. Why answer all these questions when most you can find the answers easy or there isn't an answer to give yet.
@@Elggu56 1) Many of budget MB's of the previous Gen had throttled immensely regardless of cooling system.
2) Yes, you can overclock 12th gen on some of the non-z690 boards. It's undocumented feature. You just have to ty. 3) I too cannot predict the future whether DDR5 will be a waste of money or not. But I am being asked about it by the author to foresee the future whereas I came here for the answers.
I come from the future to tell you this!
DDR5 RAM prices have dropped to about $65 more than comparable DDR4 for 32GB and with the performance advantages this motherboard has become quite popular.
could you check if the new bios 2012 unlocks overclocking on non-k cpus ?
Does this board support BCLK overclocking like the other boards der bauer reviewed
You can't put 110mm m.2 drive in there, the back slot is still 2280 max
Hi! How reset bios, do you know. my mother not show me microcode x104 in twuik paradise. I not can do undervotage
can u make a review for the new rog b760i?
There’s no point to ddr5 anyways. By the time there’s a decent amount of supplies, the next processors will be out and new boards.
what is the problem now?
Does this board give you a SP rating in the bios?
So does it only accept m.2 2242 size or will the normal 2280 size fit?
9 months later with DDR5 prices dropping quickly, do you still feel the same way? I just picked up 16GB of 5200 DDR5 for $100 and benchmarks show it out performing the 32GB 3200 DDR4 ram I had originally planned for at $80.
I thought it only performs similarly because of the timings being higher but the new tech having two lanes or something. We are going to have to upgrade our ram in a couple years again for this particular reason, but ddr4 is almost obsolete atm
Hmm wonder what micro ATX board I can fine atm.
I plan to use it with a 13600K without a graphic card, I have read that you do still need a graphic card to boot up and have the chance to enable the iGPU. It would be greatly appreciated if somebody could tell me if that's true.
the only mistake i had for that motherboard is the lack of some kind of bios flashback thats the only reason because price and features are grate!
any review on gigabyte B660i ?
Is this board compatible with Gskill DDR5 6000 CL36 ?
i was about to pull the trigger on this before i realized it was ddr5, i just can't stomach that ddr5 pricing right now especially since i already have ddr4 laying around
its affordable now. picked up the board for 180 and 32gb of ddr5 for 130 USD
where is the battery located?
I bought this board. We're all going to be using DDR5 in a few years anyway
can AVX-512 be activated on this mobo ?
I got this motherboard because it fits my needs of HTPC + some not demanding gaming, not because it is “affordable”. So, I don't mind DDR5.
Top Notch Quality
I love this motherboard but why it takes 6-7 second to get the bois logo then start booting!
Is this motherboard good with i7 12700 no k ?
Kinda, but I found 32gb 5600mhz for 154.00 us. I mean ya you can find ddr4 32gb for about 100.00. So, I really don't think 50 bucks is allot to worry about.
If your spending that much on a board I'd assume you'd have enough for ddr5 at that price. Maybe I'm wrong. I believe that board was 199.00 us this week.
FYI, Asrock has a z690i phantom gaming for 245.00$ US. I'm not a asrock fan but the board has allot of features. For the price I think it's a really good deal right now, I'd say it's probably the best board for that form factor and for the features you get. It punches above is weight class. Other boards are 350.00 or more with the same features.
I disagree with your comment about the DDR5 ram. The whole Z690 deal was to user in new tech, while skipping a generation to 1 up AMD, and sort of future proof your system.
How many amps per power phase??
When will B660 be available to the public?
Any day now
Just bought this board and one reason was because it had DDR5. If it did not I would have gone with gigabyte.
Maybe waiting another 8 months this motherboard will make sense.
Has anyone managed to fit à kraken x53 on this mother board ?
it was suposed to be budget ddr5 mobo did you see prices of other ddr5 boards ? it 550€ for z790i and 365€ for z690i like the hell haha
7:29 Asus Inc : not so sure boy...

Yeah you can overclock the non-k on this, if that's what you're asking.
@@theTechNotice I verified it was an option for b660f and g but didn't know if ix model had the clock gen.
@@theTechNotice I have this board with the 12400 and checked all three available BIOS versions. There is no manual setting in AI overclock, just auto and XMP I and II, so no BCLK unlock

DDR4 would definitely been better right now, but DDR5 will be in stock soon. there only being 2 DDR5 slots is perfect.
I think all consumer DDR5 Boards should only have 2 slots. more than enough capacity on 2 modules. would be more stable and efficient.
Agreed
Emojis? You might be too young. That is an UFO from Space Invaders and the Ghost from PacMan..
Ddr5 là một thứ gì đó khá "tương lai"
what low profile cooler that fit this motherboard?
Not sure...
ddr4 and pcie4 is better for b660. it can cut down the prices. if iwant ddr5 or pcie5 for no reason, i might as well buy z series board.
Yeah ddr4 I agree, but the PCIe 5 is a default on the CPU, so that's why PCIe 5, but still not a single Pcie5 device yet...
GPU's are over priced right now to, thats not stopping anyone. An extra $50 is nothing lol
They should make a H670I with DDR5, and B660I with DDR4. Unless they intentionally want to sell you that DDR5 to DDR4 riser card lol 😂
Nó có thể đi với i5 12600k?, Và có thể ép xung?
It will work, but you need Z690 for overclocking
I like the ddr5
Isn't high CAS latency a problem? CL40 must be slower than standard CL16 DDR4 kit ?

80mm is the longest one afaik. So I don't know what he means. Every normal NVMe stick will fit.
Intel optane sticks are 110mm, so 80mm-s are fine!

DDR4 - 4266(OC) you can this what ddr4 you have to have tho
Someone at Asus has mistakenly typed 5 while what he meant was 4. Well it can't be undone, go with the flow then 😂

Everyone makes typos (it can happen), but then when one makes a mistake like DDR5 instead of DDR4 - please be kind to your cutomers and add - 1 in the end at least (DDR5 -1).
The 3x Blue USB A and the right USB C are only 5 Gbit/s not 10
I'd watch out when considering the ASUS STRIX motherboard. The box my STRIX came in says Z690-E. It's totally different and has way more fixtures. This should answer the question, "When is a STRIX not a STRIX." Mine had more in common with the HERO. I had a HERO until I was informed that some might catch on fire. Can you say RECALL?
sooooo. is it wifi 6 or 6e?
ASUS website says 6 not 6e
I like Asus’s abstract futuristic designs. They’re busy but clean. Gamery but cool looking. And they’re miles ahead of all the other manufacturers in terms of design and functionality. But they’re not perfect. When I found this board I expected it to have DDR4 compatibility not DDR5.
Totally agree
The price of ddr5 is better now
True
@@theTechNotice I bought a 32 gb kit of ddr5 for less than a 32gb kit of ddr4 from amazon the other day when I purchased this board. No offense with this, but this review has som issues:
1. I do not believe that AiO pump header runs 100% ALL the time, maybe at the start of the system, but since it is PWM it should be configurable in the bios too
2. You are contradicting yourself when you said that the two fan headers support output of 24W, if they have a limit of 1A, then they only can output 12W, since the fan voltage is 12V
3. The 110mm m.2 will physically fit at the back of the board, BUT you don't have a secure point for that size there, only 60mm and 80mm by the looks of it
4. THIS ONE HIT ME THE MOST: DO NOT POINT AT THE CAPACITORS AND SAY THEY ARE TRANSISTORS! This board may have transistors(or rather mosfets), but they are UNDER the heatsinks, because they need the cooling. I have not seen under those heatsinks, but I guess they use power stages(which are mosfets integrated with other circuitry for monitoring, etc.). Or possibly they could use low+high side mosfet combo, but guessing from the cheaper itx board of AMD lineup(B550 variant), it should indeed be the power stages
So all in all, this "review" you have here, is just a description and walkaround the board, which you can easily read on their page :D so maybe next time do some testing with it, such as temperature of mosfets when gaming/heavy workload, can it handle 12900k at max load, etc.
