    Otherwise the Asus B650E-I is a breath of fresh air, and it nails the key features for an ITX motherboard. One quick note on something I forgot to mention during the review- the board doesn't have a DisplayPort output but the 3.2 Gen 2 USB-C port supports DisplayPort over USB-C.

    Own this Asus B650E-I for a half-year. It is a pretty good MB but with one major con - chipset (~60C) radiator underneath M2_1 slot is heating it up so I got 63-65C on my WD SN770 drive in idle !!! I have a custom watercooling loop in SFF case so everything else stays cool. Also, I do not want to put an additional fan blowing on nvme - that will ruin the aesthetics of a build. Now my headache is to find nvme waterblock that fits my case :))
    BTW: T-sensor was the major selling point for me. Also Optical audio output. Unfortunately, B650E-I was the only choice on the B650 chipset.
    UPD: I hear a coil-whine a little from MB in idle but while gaming RX 6800XT produces a much louder coil-whine.

    Another good review, well-done. The MediaTek WiiFi module is a standard NGFF M.2 so it can be easily removed and replaced with a different module. I replaced mine with an Intel AX210 before I did anything else with the motherboard. The price on this motherboard is, like most AM5 boards, a bit insane and smells like greed to me, but it is what it is. I am happy with mine so far. Just be sure to update the BIOS to 1616 or newer to keep the SOC voltage under control when using EXPO settings.

      @@SerxRox No coil wine at all with mine. Coil wine can be a byproduct of component selection as well. An X-class Zen4 with higher TDP may be more likely to reveal coil wine, perhaps, than a non-X Zen4 like my 7700. Just grasping there, no factual basis behind that thought beyond higher TDP processors pulling more voltage, current, and wattage than lower TDP processors, and thereby stressing the VRM more. Coil wine does not in itself mean a problem, but it can be annoying and concerning.

    ITX and mATX are honestly the authentic consumer boards that most people _should_ be using but aren't using. Cause most people aren't using the second or third PCIe slots on ATX or E-ATX boards. And most of those people are also only using 2 RAM slots or all 4 but with smaller sticks, that the owner would have benefitted from 2 bigger sticks; it's less stress on the memory controller.

      I agree and also technology is SUPPOSED to get smaller, why are PCs the same size today as the ones I grew up with in the 90s? They were smaller in the 80s! We no longer need optical drives, floppy drives, hell even 3.5" HDDs! All that space saved but cases and boards are the same size as 25 years ago!

    • @osardegozar2581
      @osardegozar2581 Před 10 měsíci +1

      ITX and mATX boards may be the authentic consumer boards that some people may prefer, but I do not think that most people should use them. Most people presumably avoid those types of boards and prefer ATX boards for reasons that you did not mention.
      1. It's easier for most people to build a PC using an ATX board and a large case than to build one with an ITX or mATX board and a small case.
      2. Many people want to have two or more m.2 slots for SSDs.
      3. Cooling efficiency is often better with an ATX board and a large case because they enable you to use a large air-cooler that you can't use with an ITX board and a small case and because a large has a room for a greater amount of air to be taken from outside.
      4. ATX boards generally have higher specs than mATX and ITX boards.
      5. Boards manufacturers offer a greater variety of ATX boards to choose from.
      I think that people who use ATX boards do so for any or all of these and other good reasons just like those who use an ITX or mATX board have a different set of good reasons to do so.

    • @andrewvirtue5048
      @andrewvirtue5048 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@osardegozar2581
      1. Its easier to build with mATX inside a large case than an ATX in a large case. Because more room.
      2. Most of the mATX and ITX boards have two or three m.2 slots.
      3. 140mm CPU coolers and 140mm case fans fit just fine in small cases, such as the Lian Li 011 Mini Air.
      4. You're gonna have to define what you mean by higher specs, because they literally have the same exact chipset. As I already stated in my initional comment, more GPU slots isn't higher specs. More RAM slots isn't higher specs. More USB ports isnt higher specs.
      5. Yeah, there unfortunately is a greater variety of ATX boards.
      Are the points you listed *reasons* that people *should* use ATX? No, I don't think so, and feel I nullified your points.
      If a person has practical reason for a second or third PCIe x16 slot. Like using a video capture card because they already live stream and want to lighten the GPU load. You can stick an PCIe x4 item in the x16 slot like an m.2.
      Consumer and entry level animation, software development, gaming, or video editing is _NOT_ gonna need anything over the 64gb of RAM that two slots will give you. And if a person is already at or beyond the consumer/entry level, _which is what my initinial comment addresses,_ then sure. Gladly get yourself an E-ATX board.

    • @osardegozar2581
      @osardegozar2581 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@andrewvirtue5048 1. It's unlikely that people opting for an mATX case is also going to use a large case. In most cases, in fact, those people prefer a small case. Your assertion is true but is not relevant to most of use cases in practice.
      2. Many of them may have two but not three.
      3. I don't think a 140 mm CPU cooler counts as a large CPU cooler. I meant something much taller, like NH-D15.
      4. By higher specs, I had primarily in mind the number of VRM phases and the number of PCB layers.
      My point is not a categorial assertion that people should use ATX boards. It all depends on their need and preferences. You can't simply say either that people should use mATX/ITX boards or that they should use ATX boards without considering their particular needs and preferences. It is enough that people have certain reasonable grounds for using the board they chose.
      You seem to construe "consumer" rather narrowly. According to your construal of "consumer," it may be reasonable to say there are certain circumstances where consumers or entry-level PC builders should pay more attention to mATX/ITX boards than they do now but not that such people should generally use them.

    So does this board ditch that awful usb hub that was required on the other boards for bios flashback and Q codes? If I'm being honset that's why I decided to skip this gen,(also dodged a bullet with the bios issues) I like asus boards they alwasy have the features I want for the most part except for the first few AM5 boards they did.

      The hub is only on the Asus X670E-I and the Z790-I. No add on cards or risers either. That is a big reason why I think this board is more worthwhile than the X670E-I.

Looking at reviews and Reddit posts, this seems to be an extremely common issue for boards with manufacture date "11-22". Did you experience any coil whine? I have a 7700X on this board and when it is idling on Windows, this motherboard makes a very annoying coil whine.
    I spent tons of money on Noctua fans, EK AIO, and Corsair Platinum PSU for the most silent m-ITX system possible just to have the experience destroyed by this piece of sh(*%.
    And yes, It comes from the motherboard, close to the AM5 socket. I tested without my RTX3090 and other components.
    Besides that, there was the Asus BIOS fiasco that I couldn't update my BIOS for a long time without voiding my warranty.
    Avoid it if you can.
