- YAMAHA 15 HP 2 stroke outboard will not stay running unless the ckoke is pulled out. This can be a common problem in many outboard motors. So let's go inside outboard's again & do some sniff'n round and see if we can put this old outboard back to work.

Kodi, I really have to hand it to you. Very good video. I am an advanced mechanic on outboards and knew right before I clicked your video where this was going yet I am still watching this because it is still not boring and very entertaining. I will modify one of my pliers with a dremel to grab them stuck screws, because with normal pliers it's hard to grab and you keep slipping. Thank you, great content
Thanks 4 the very kind comment mate. kb
@@kodibassInsideoutboards I'm serious too 😜
I'm going to be working on my 1973 evinrude 25 hp outboard thanks for all your teaching Chris from OHIO
Great vid kodi!! Very informative! Love those Yamahas. One of the better 2 stroke in the lower hp range. Have one of them my self. Keep up the good work that you do,! 👏👏👍😎. Gus form Norway
Will do mate, will give a shoutout for Norway . thanks kb
Mr. Cody I enjoy your videos
Thank you
You are both funny and talented. It's very good.
Thank U, 4 sure. kb
Nice stuff on this channel 👍. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Great Job!.Tried it on ours and solved the same issues..keep up the good work and thanks for sharing
Most welcome 4 sure. kb
Thanks for the video sir.. I'm watching it till end..
Most welcome, & Thanks mate. kb
Great video. I think my 1993 yamaha 15 hp carb needs worked on. The guy I bought it from said he didn't run it for 2 years. I don't know anything about motors, but it sounds like the idle needs speed up. Sometimes it's hard to start as well.
That outboard purred once you got the fuel problem fixed... too bad about the bad fuel pump design. It means they'll be back down the road. Guess it's just job security for you (not really a problem given what I've seen come through your shop). Thanks again for education. You never disappoint.
Thanks 4 the kind comments ,, kb
Favourite ever outboard. Feels a lot quicker than everyone else's 15...as if I would speed
Yep' I agree. kb
Very informative video, appreciate the detail. Any chance you do one on changing the waterpump impeller?
Thank You , Yes I have a few Yamaha waterpump change video's Do not know what I titled them tho. kb
I need a engine stand like that lol 🍻
Kodibass, Thank You for this video! I kept thinking my problem was the carburetor or bad gas (which was some of it), when it was a hole in the fuel pump diaphragm. Note - the OEM diaphragm I got didn’t have a flow through hole at the edge so I had to cut it, I wonder if that’s normal? Anyway, great video, and Thanks again.
Thanks for the video, umm i installed a brand new after market carb on my 2 stroke 15 and it would run perfect then die off after 1-2 mins of running it. gas flow from the tank is good and a clean fuel filter, any ideas?
I've just gotten one of these Yammy 15 2strokes. 2002. Seems super rich at idle & doesn't rev well. How many turns out from seated should the idle mix screw be? Thx Kodi- Takes forever to get on plane with 125psi both cylinders. Hope it's not a nightmare roach like that one you dealt with across multiple vids!
Start with 2 out from light seat, Then adjust while on the water. Hope U get her worked out. kb
When the knowledge hits euphoria, boredom comes naturally :) Make it look like a kids play !
Love! from Australia. It was a very informative video mate. I'm going to try find me one of those vampire pliers!
Yep good tool 4 sure. kb
Hi, show how to set the timing please.
Make sure to get you a JIS screwdriver and you won’t have problems getting them out.
Hi Kodi, on a electric charging system outboard have you ever converted one from mechanical fuel pump to an electric one? I believe the psi range is like 3.0 to 4.0 so the electric pump would need to be the same
No never tride that, If U do keep us posted. kb
I will if I know for sure it won't screw anything up. It would be a good video with installing a water separator at the same time
Hey man great video I have a 15 hp Honda 4 stroke 2001 it won’t run with choke off I cleaned the carb changed the spark plugs and the oil is very clean could it be the fuel pump?? It looks like the motor has low hours on it as well
Hang a small bottle of gas Above powerhead from the bottle run a fuel hose straight to the carb. (this will bypass the fuel pump. If it runs normal bad fuel pump. kb
@@kodibassInsideoutboards Thankyou man I will try this
Just picked up suzuki 9.9 doing the same thing runs only on choke I believe the fuel system is similar if remember correctly the fuel pump was attached to the carb little square box on the side the carburetor probably same issue
Lubricant on all screws, to prevent future problems? My own theory.
Correct theory, 4 sure. kb
Hello I'm curious what's the difference between the mercury and the Johnson diaframs
Johnson OMC , has a spring that pushes against the diaphgrams, It seems to work better than the non spring typs. kb
What did you spray into the pull cord when cleaning up motor. Is it a lube?
Yes' cheap-o wall-mart lube. kb
Will Q20 work ?@@kodibassInsideoutboards
@@kodibassInsideoutboards another question if you dont mind? On the air/fuel screw is it 1 and a quarter turns out from fully in? Or does that vary per motor? I have a 1990 15hp 2 stroke
Looking for an electric choke solenoid for a 1998 Merc 9.9..
Which is the idle set screw?
What kind os spray you use to clean ou the outside and insidet??...I use wd40 and a dry rag.
I use walmart brand Supertech carb intake cleaner, For lube I use Triflo. kb
My 15 yamaha won't start without choked and it cuts off can't you tell me y
Can you confirm what the Pliers are called again..?
VAMPLIERS, They R great,, KB
Yamaha service manual says 1 1/4 turn out of the mixture screw.
👍
Thank U, Prevost. Helps me 4 sure. kodibass
