- After discussing the deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison describes how he thinks he'll die in this excerpt from an interview with Salli Stevenson on October 13, 1970.
This interview was conducted on the rear patio of The Doors Workshop at 8512 Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood, CA for a two-part feature in Circus Magazine. Also present were photographer Kurt Ingham and New York PR agent Risa.

Jim did quietly drift off. Thank you for the lifetime of great tunes and poetry!
.... Oh, yes, eighteen billion thanks to his Soul, but he did no
{quiet} {drifting} He's right here in this "Feast of Friends" ....
...93 years earlier than he had hoped.
Jim is quite clear and cool here, you have a influenced mediatic vision.
Well said
from the way he sang, recited and generally communicated, it always seemed to me that he had a beautiful soul no matter what life he led
...absolutely❤ and so much wisdom for a man in his 20somenthin! Right? He was so connected to the Invisible, the Universal forces. I believe that his turmoil ended when he recorded An American Prayer. He knew that was his final statement. He was ready to go towards a deeper level of consciousness!!
@@f.sense888yeah, he was 26-27 in this video, this is only 10 months before he died. He talks like a lot of 40+ people I know. Fame exposed him to a lot of uncomfortable truths about life. Like Kurt Cobain, Jim always had a sense of humor too! I think Kurt and Jim spoke very similarly, which is strange because they grew up on two opposite sides of the country.
That voice always calms me !!
You wouldn’t want him to read a Dr. Seuss story.
Talking about the 27 club with a future member of the 27 club.... that's pretty mad
He joined 10 months later
And what he was describing with the amazing heights and then the low that follows with depression. He knew that because he was dealing with that which is why he drank so much.
4real
27 club isn't a thing up until cobain died
That club sucks. People forget just as many musicians died at age 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31... etc. The "27" club is based on selectiveness imo. Nothing cool or glamorous about dying young. If anything it's a shame.
10 months later he joins them
they took him under the severed garden
@@Mr.feelyFeel illuminati ?
The year before was Brian Jones who was 27 and died exactly 2 years before Jim Morrison
At one point after this interview, it was said that Jim told someone that he was going to be the final of the THREE to die along with Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix…✌️✌️✌️
Jim was practical in his words and that was a good quality. You can hear the practical poet and the need to find his place among his peers.
"... burst of creative energy was hard to sustain.... " These are Jim's words. I think that this is basically saying that these rock icons were under enormous pressure to come with more songs and recordings that would be hits. I think that he is suggesting, de facto, is that this pressure led them to seek relief through drugs. He mentioned the word "sensitive people", that's a clue, too.
Maybe he felt it wasn't sustained, but looking back almost every doors song is fantastic. Each song the Doors wrote was unique in it's own way.
I imagine he may have feared his own "creative energy {burst}" could reach a crescendo, and a subsequent wane ....
There is an excellent book all about this called Touched with Fire. It's a non-fiction book which examines why artists of all types are prone to melancholy, psychological disorders, and suicide, bot intentional and unintentional.
He said "sensitive people", and I think he is right. We might all find life hard to sustain at times...it doesn't mean we have a death wish. It just means we are human.

some people do not "get" the doors or jim,.....
i feel sorry for them,...so glad i liked it the first time,....
so glad i "get" it.
some of the most incredible music, lyrics,...mood setting vibes i have ever heard.
The best band ever
Doors is a band that does not have a single bad song
„If we did (conquer death) what would happen to the spirit world?“ Great question…
He was a bit of a sage in the natural potential kind of way. Just imagine what an invaluable mind he could have been if he lived to this day.
Absolutely....
And well put by the way
He was one anyway. Jim came to do a mission and he did it.
Amazing person. Pamela Courson couldn't live without him.
❤️Love from The Navajo Nation
It was her guilt from supplying him with heroin.
What a delightfully intelligent, quick witted almost professorial mammal and rock legend
Almost professional mammal 😂
@@savedfavesYou can be professorial without being a professional - - dare I say, even a rank amateur . . .
Singing is all about telling a story... And Jim was really good at bringing the story to you
“I guess they’d just have to fend for themselves” lmao that’s what people don’t get about Jim these days he was funny he didn’t anything too seriously
Jim was so deep
Miss him
I was not in this Realm when Jim was, but I miss him, deeply. 💓💞
everyone said what a drunk and druggie he was but if you actually listen he's a genius
It's super easy to write people off. That's why it happens so much.
The media makes it seem as if Jim was some drunken buffoon 99% of the time. The fact is, what you hear in this clip is how Jim was most of the time. Was he an alcoholic? Yes indeed and he could be very out of control but that had to do with his relationship with his parents, especially his father more than anything else. If Jim would have come around 30 years later, they would have found him a good shrink to work out his demons. Jim, was, IMO, the prototypical tortured genius who's primary target was himself.
Well it was hard to notice his genius, even the band members at first didnt see much in him, he was shy and quiet most of the time
Here's a guy who never really sang in College, High School, or played an instrument. Yet, he wrote those songs and sung them wonderfully. He said he had the melody in his head, along with the words in'65-66 before the Doors became famous. That's genius.
I’m coming around to that view myself.
such beautiful, talented, gorgeous, handsome, man to ever live.🕊️ rip beautiful soul legends never die🕊️
This is the strangest life I've ever known
weird scenes inside the goldmine
"People are strange"
Waiting for the sun
Ive never seen a woman, so alone. So alone.
He has such a very unique way of talking and speaking. I didn’t get the sound or understanding of the way he speaks from the Doors movie- definitely not captured in the movie
Pretty deep response.
i hate the way that people talk about him and his character. to call him a drunk or a druggie is such a low blow and completely ignorant to both the personal stressors of his life and the pressures of fame. no one is a druggie or a drunk they are just people; rip jim
"Jimbo" was the drunk.
Completely agree with you.
Reference here to Alan Wilson of Canned Heat, who succumbed in California September 1970, and also became a member of the 27club. The mystique of Jim Morrison and his eerily haunting music will never die. He sleeps tonight in the Perelachaise but like Oscar Wilde his memory lives on🟪
A tiny, scrawny grey cat sauntered out to eat my cheese, 2003 October, Pere LaChaise. She appeared from the incense smoke I'd dedicated to JDM, or so it seemed .... 💓
This was recorded 9 months before he died and the fact that he hoped to live to 120 and quietly drift off speaks volumes. I don't think he had a death wish or was suicidal and that his death was indeed an accident.
I think so too! Oh, Jim....😞
I would like to think that, but the reality is he was an out of control Alcoholic who couldn't stop.
But he looked better in Paris than he did when he went there after making the LA Woman record and even the cover pic and those last US concerts.
He was massive in my younger life went to Paris twice to visit his grave when i eventually die i will always be glad or even greatfull that jim morrison and the door's played a huge part in my life at the end of the day no one here gets out alive no matter who the fuck you are
Salli Stevenson is a very nice person. I only knew her thru the doors message boards many years ago. Hope you are doing well, Salli. Hope you are still with us.🙏
She is.
Seems a very candid interview with Jim. In a way, by listening it seems I got to know him a little better. He sounds like an intelligent old soul not always worthy of the crazy reputation he had. Thanks for showing this unique sound bite!
The first and last sincere legitimate rock star artist.
Love the original Miller High Life on the table. 🙏🏼☮️
He was talking about himself here which is really crazy
He was crazy intelligent and it’s obvious in every interview he did
Long live Jim’s memory.
xoxo The Clarences
He was constantly speaking with the Spirits realm. That was a lil way to joke around. He already knew that death is not the end of our existence, but just a passage for something better and meaningful! He's still talking to us...🌠
🥺
The 60s generation contained many young minds that were wise way beyond their years...Morrison was one of them.
Or maybe they were normal but compared to ones now, they really seem special.
He’s literally the ONE
He was onto something regarding murder, it’s been used countless times in the entertainment industry.
Jim Morrison was well spoken with high IQ and well read with quick wit !!!!
At his grave at pere lachaise cemetery in Paris, you can't actually touch his grave anymore because it was to much for the headstone. Now it is surrounded by a clear barrier and everyone sticks their gum on a Pole by his grave. I wasn't expecting this but strangely , there is a feeling being there by his grave
That last bit was the best part.
“They’d just have to fend for themselves. Leave us poor immortals alone”
Jim burned so brightly he glowed.
Yes, indeed. Jim Morrison glowed in the dark.
Rest in peace.
noticed he avoided talk of drugs and alcohol.
He talks just like Kurt Cobain
Oh wow, I wouldn’t have thought it but I do hear it… What if Kurt was Jim reincarnated to live past 27 but he still didn’t make it..? I’m half joking, but who knows. I do hear the similarity and there are ways they’re similar.
Kurt Cobain talked just like Jim Morrison
Beautiful clear audio thank you for posting this!
Jim Morrison was 18 months younger than Paul McCartney. In a better timeline Jim would have played Glastonbury 2023!
The price for not differentiating the hard drugs that KILL: alcohol and heroin from soft drugs has been horrific. United States decriminalize cannabis nationwide 2024!
I’m glad they mentioned Alan Wilson. He was a genius like Morrison
I love this 💖💖💖
It was kind of prophetic that he said when he dies he just wanted to just drift off with nobody around and that's how he died.
Jim off booze and acid was a pleasant chat
very haunting they asked him about the other singers that passed away that are linked with him now,
Y efectivamente, Jim Morrison Hizo de su "Muerte" Un Poema extra para su diario.
He never seemed happy
I think he probably was bipolar that’s why he drank and took drugs so much cause he got really really down
@@leonconnelly5303 oddly enough I think every member of the 27 club was bipolar
What’s to be happy about?
He could see too much.
What a cool dude
1:20 I kinda think that's what happened on July 3rd even though we don't know how Jim died
Yeah that's definitely prophetic though l feel it was more of a reckless accident from the drugs they felt they could handle but of course couldn't know what they were.
This was funny. I love hearing his voice again.
One of a kind genius
"Cemetery, cemetery; cool and grey, dread the milky coming of the day."
Jim Morrison circa 1968
So sad he was part of that 27 club where so many musicians have died at that age and when Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix both died in 1970 Jim Morrison said he was going to be number 3 and he was right so sad
A very sad story 😢
he sounds like kurt a little bit
His answer is genius I like him now more than before 👍
Such a beautiful and artistic soul ❤️
Jim seems genuinely truthful and a decent man
120 years. Only 27 😢
I know 😞
Description of Kurt Cobain comes to mind.
Omg same, it’s crazy!
You could tell at the Isle of Wright Festival his heart was no longer in it.
KURT: What was the Isle Of Wight. Was that right after the trial? All the English papers said you looked just exhausted.
JIM: Yeah. I flew over there from Miami. Arrived in London and drove over to a little airport, and we took a small plane to the Isle Of Wight, and then we drove right to the concert. By the time I went on, I don't think I'd slept in about 36 hours. So I wasn't really quite at my best.
He still sang good
Yet it's his best performance lol
@@JesusGomez-ob2qt Not even close to his best .
@@Lord_Hillcrest 💯
He did conquered death ☠️ dude was legend
Sad to think the same person is responsible for Jim and Janis's death. It's too bad he couldn't let Pam go.
You mean Diablo 😈
No. Count Jean de Bruteil, playboy, heroin dealer, and general piece of shit.
Who is the person?
@@deni.el__1 Count Jean de Breteuil....himself died from heroin soon after. It was said to be not accidental due to the quantity ingested, but who knows.
WOW! quietly drift off?????????⚰
My DNA Scottish Cousin Jim Morrison would be dead in only 9 short months after this interview. I remember when "The Doors" were a new band, such an exciting time back then.
I might be tripping but Jim and Kurt Cobain have very similar voices when they talk in interviews and at the same time sound the complete opposite when singing. Definitely just stating the obvious with the last statement but it kinda caught me off guard
They have very familiar intensity with their screams though... he was like the KC of his day at the time... he basically made psychedelic blues grunge lol
Obviously very well spoken..
1:14 This bit just broke my heart...
Him and Kurt Cobain sound a lot alike
You''re so right. I never realized it until you brought it up....
Life is just a vapor.

Jim and the Doors! Greatest Band and never forgotten😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤
Cool dude. Very real.
27 years old, and a nothing less than a musical genius.
27 years... RIP
Regarding the cobain comments. I think they are somewhat cut from the same cloth. Introverted and weird and thoughtful.
Age 120..😂😂😂, how beautiful that would have been for Jim to live to that wise old age..God bless his beautiful soul.
He should have been paying attention cuz he got done the same as Janice.
The spirit world just have to mend for themselves.leave us mortals alone
❤ Alcohol was always present.
Loved a lot of his music. Otherwise, what a goofball!
He really was a witty guy.
You are asking about the death of Jimmy and Janice "number 3"...
If only he’d been introduced to AA -he could have got clean and sober!
Man, i sure miss you. Jim.......my lizard king🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴😎😎😎😎
This sounds like Kurt Cobain talking. The voice and the thoughts that were said. Cut from the same cloth.
Well he got to comment on these deaths didn't he? SOME people couldn't transition to the normalcy of success and decided to fade out
Did Jim Drink Miller Highlife
Pam was his only true love ❤️
Nobody actually knows what he had felt. It is just speculation.
You really gotta try hard to reach the level of alcoholism Jim attained at 27.
A soul too sensitive for this life
+
Did he say immortal? Lol
Al Wilson?
Canned heat guitar player
Jim was a time traveler sent here from god to question our own mortality.
Depression causes recklessness which causes accidents that aren’t really accidents because they really died from the root cause which was depression. Lay off that cocaine, and let that whiskey be.
Calling depression a root cause is kind of like calling rain dry. Depression is never a root cause. It is always a symptom of some other problem.
The last two sentences sounded so Kurt cobaine ish 🫶🏻 just thought I’d share my opinion 🍻
In the end of doesn't make any difference, 27, 120 or 1200 the last day must feel the very same
