    Wow you just said it . A flag that will sound like a truck back firing or making noise like it so no bad spook. Thank you so much

    In a world full of Pat Parelli's, be a Pat Puckett!
    I have enjoyed Pat and Deb and their videos so much. I have been practicing roping shots this evening and am having a ball learning the backwards swing and Houlihan.
    I am working out where I am with my new horse and filling in gaps with the others that are already going using Pat's methods.
    Thank you both again for your time, effort and freely sharing your knowledge and experience.
    I purchased and read Pat's book, "In the Words of a Reinsman", yesterday. And then read it again.
    I do have a question, what do you do when you have a horse that is resentful and bothered for the first 30 or so minutes of riding out on the trail? I know you say to sneak in 10 minutes of schooling on the way out and not on the way home but it's often times on the way home that the horse is "teachable".

      Try trotting your horse out and practicing Rear End/Front End on the way home. Also, don’t always be training on your horse. Take time to just enjoy a ride. When you get home from the ride, you can work on the logs, hang your horse, etc. If your horse is resentful, you might be overdoing it.

      @@PatnDebPuckett thank you so much for the response! What honda does Pat use for roping horses?

    • @PatnDebPuckett
      @PatnDebPuckett  Před 4 lety +1

      Pat uses a rawhide hondo but he recommends a metal hondo because it releases quicker and you can fish it off if you need to.

      @@PatnDebPuckett one more question on the don't always be training, when I ask him to stop, it is still not acceptable for him to move and I should put him back? Correct? That is our biggest problem right now. Not wanting to stand still while horseback. If you stand beside him he will stand content. If you are on him he wants to dance or pull on the snaffle even when there is no pressure on his mouth. He is seven, I have about 10 rides on him in the month and a half I've had him. Before me he had a lot of training young and then didn't get ridden much after. I think he liked the old life in the pasture and resents getting put on the payroll. Like Pat says, "it was already there, I didn't put it on him". I'm just trying to work out the braces and get him to listen to my skeleton.

    Question about the jawbone yielding with the tail tie. I understand the relevance of it and when I ride or from the ground I look to release for that. But I do not understand what helps Chinaco find that in the tail-tie: what stops him from just bending the neck with a tilted head? Is it built into the mechanics of the tail-tie somehow that I can't see, or is it working because of his prior education? Thank you for your generous teachership. Love and gratitude from Aromas, CA (between Santa Cruz and Salinas).

    How do you transition a person from never riding with spurs to a person who can use the spur to communicate effectively with their horse.

    • @PatnDebPuckett
      @PatnDebPuckett  Před 4 lety +1

      By getting an independent seat (trotting for miles and miles in varying terrain) and learning to separate your upper body from your legs.

    What kind of antenna works good for flagging? Thank you sir.

    • @PatnDebPuckett
      @PatnDebPuckett  Před 4 lety +1

      We use a whip antenna. Used to be able to get them at Radio Shack. I think you can still get them on Amazon. Whip antennas are tapered and we’ve found that it’s best to take the part you’re going to use out of the middle, throwing away the part that is too thick to bend into a handle and the part that’s too thin on the other end.
