Fun fact: this is called a "chaos pendulum" because its a classic example of a chaotic system. Chaos, in the mathematical sense, does not mean randomness. If you drop the exact same pendulum from the exact same spot, it will swing the exact same way, every time. What makes the system chaotic is that changing the initial conditions, dropping the pendulum from an ever so slightly different position, results in a completely different movement pattern. I'm sure it could be constructed in a way to demonstrate the three planet problem (re plotting their orbits). Two is easy (for these clever clogs), but three is renowned to be near impossible (if not actually impossible!). If you want to scare an astrophysicist, ask them the answer to it lol.
What if you places the shorter lengths onto the longer length creating a triangle. One on each side. Then connect a rod between the two shorter lengts but with the wheel sandwiched between them.
I have a little rowboat guy with balls at the end of his oars. Rocks back and forth but eventually the balls gather a bit of rotational momentum and spins the rower 180⁰. Then back again several seconds later
