It took 4 years to film The acolyte. If they were planning a season 2 they would already be filming it.

No show or movie takes that long to film unless it is stuck in development hell. That would be 4 years to write, storyboard, cast, edits then special effects. Most shows are sub 6 months for all filming with a week or two for reshoots that didn't work in editing. Most TV 30 min-1 hour episodes are 1-2 weeks filming per episode at most. Many are written, filmed, and edited in 1 month if there are no heavy visual effects. Movies are at most 9 months including on location filming and practical effects and about 1 year digital effects work afterwards. This gives them a few months for pushing advertising hard and getting input on previews for last minute reshoots or editing for around a 2 year total development time. Sometimes studios even sit on a movie/show for several years until the 'time is right'.
Disney is known to also over shoot and create multiple version cuts and edits of a show (think alternative endings but every scene has several alternatives). It's horribly inefficient cost wise and why they cost 100+ million to make when it could be a fraction of that if they didn't try to check so boxes from their terrible writers.

Honestly Disney had every right to cancel their deal with Amandla, she violated the morality clause in her contract when she posted that music video. Basically if anyone doesn’t know what a morality clause is in a contract, it means you agree to keep a good moral for yourself, the company you work for, and the viewers of the product. Posting the music video attacking fans of the project and company you’re contractually working for and not taking it down when your employer is asking you to violates it and declares the contract null and void from that moment forward.
