      believe me there's no major in college that you can't study all of it in less than 6 months, but they stuff useless information to elongate our studying period so we have to pay more. It's a win for them and a lose for our time, however the only useful thing about it is that we get to practice on useful and useless topics which is not bad, but not needed for we can acquire it in work fields. In short, schools are a bad for us.

      colleges are deliberately time inefficient to maximize cash extraction from students. many 4 year degrees have maybe 6-12 month worth stuff in it. STEM and medical stuff are exceptions. you need 24-36 months for those.

Many of them are more expensive to follow than to get fined for not following them, so ofcause those will be ignored. Also, there is no police on the seas, as long as the crew and the company is fine with it, you can do whatever the fuck you want on the sea.

    A fun story about my flying experience with KLM (dutch) and DELTA (us);
    When i was 18 (well over the legal drinking age in the netherlands, wich was 16 at the time.) i went on a KLM flight to new york. When the stewardess came over and i asked for a beer, she told me that i needed to be 21, since we were flying to new york and american law was in effect. I had a great holiday, got on my DELTA flight back to amsterdamn. When the american stewardess came over i was already smirking, and asked for a beer again, and was declined again. She said; ''This is an american plane, and thus american soil, so american law applies''. She disregarded my previous experience, and i had to settle for a coke once again.

    Maritime Law is related to commercial matters involving ships,cargo, navigation, pollution, crewing, salvage, and passengers, and dates back to ancient times. Different countries are signatories to different sets of rules (e.g Hague Rules, Hamburg Rules, Rotterdam Rules, Hague-Visby Rules) embodying interpretations of in finding liability and fault as well as to the limitation of liability, suitable forums, standing, multi-modal transport, contracts, etc. etc. There are also many other aspects.

    Another interesting story about maritime laws and Prohibition: As said in the video, a ship is considered territory of its registration country, so that country's laws are enforced inside even if it's docked in another country. So French liners stayed longer than needed in New York between their westbound and eastbound trips, and were open to be visited by the locals. Therefore they were Big Apple's only legal bars, with the New Yorkers enjoying the finest French wines instead of some random illegal booze... Obviously it had a huge success and it was almost as profitable for the French Line as the proper trips...

    02:55 Panama does not have such an unusually high number of ships in her registry because, ahem, the costs of "taxes and labor" are low. There are quite very few Panamanians serving aboard the vessels she flags. The Panamanian labor pool - at whatever wage level - is not a significant factor in the costs administered by shipping lines.
    Panama is popular among ship owners because the laws are complaisant - some might argue, complicit.

  • @Michalosnup
    @Michalosnup Před rokem

    Some remarks on the video
    - all miles used are nautical miles
    - there is an importent rule in teritorial waters: you cannot do anything that interferes with waters of other countries, so you cannot for example dump trash in it
    - you have to distinguish between seabed and waters, continental shelf has some rights different from EEZ, the Area (seabed beyond shelf) has different laws to the High seas.
    - fun fun facts
    - the most important maritime law agreement is UNCLOS, it is framework to almost every other agreement
    - i have an international environmental law exam in 3 days
    - wish me luck

    This is a simple and clear explanation of International Law of the Sea for Joe Public, so thank you for that. However, the video title is a bit confusing. The video is mostly about the international laws regulating the public order at sea which is related to International Law of the Sea (a branch of Public International Law). Only the Nationality Law part (the part about the babies born at sea) of the video is related to Private International Law. Maritime Law, on the other hand, mostly means the laws governing ships, shipping, maritime contracts/accidents/torts, etc. As you can see, although both have the same context (sea), Maritime Law is mostly regulating the relation between private persons and entities while International Law of the Sea is mostly regulating the issues regarding open sea and the relation between governments. Therefore, I think it is better to change the video title as "How Law of the Sea Works?"

    • @1995MFP

    • @CobusGreyling
      @CobusGreyling Před 7 lety +2

      There are specific anti-Piracy measures in place. Piracy is treated in the same way as torture, slavery, and apartheid. These are called the _jus cogens_ crimes, also referred to by the states' obligations as the _erga omnes_ obligations. It pretty much means any state has jurisdiction. Literally. Any state can say "Fuck this." and step in to battle a breach of such an obligation. So technically, if you commit piracy, you're invading the entirety of NATO (most probably) - yeah, bad idea.

I am learning about the exoteric and occult side of maritime law and how it has been slipped in to the system unbeknownst to the average person and is used alongside the strawman to trick us into excepting none crimes as crimes and tricking us into taking ownership of it,its fascinating but I also appreciate this side of it too. Thank you.
