    Lumber is what your drying. Wood is what is in the log. Looks good to me👍styrene foam insulation would hold heat better. Plus a great starter planting green house. Good job. You also attach a chicken coop use the venting the heat to keep the chickens warm. Or as a defrosting LOL!!!

    Just watch the series. It's a bit of a cliffhanger! How about an update on performance, modifications, things you would do differently?

    I like watching the videos well done . I’m curious how the floor does as it dries . I will definitely keep watching to learn more on the temp in the kiln . Enjoy your son everyday . He is learning believe me .

    Tell your little girl she gets (A+) for being Dad's helper from a retyred shop teacher of 27 years in the middle school and 2 years in HS. you can get ancho seal through Amazon water born wax to seal the end grain and reduce splitting when drying.

    I just started watching, (10-19-21). Good job on the kiln. Do you have any update/progress report on how the kiln has worked so far?

    Hey Andrew, I'm glad I found your videos. I'll be building a solar kiln with green wood this summer. Do you have any plans or did you just go by the Virginia Tech plans? Do you have links for the fans and solar charger? Thanks!

    Thank you for the video. How have your fans held up? Since building your kiln is there anything you would have done differently?

    Nice work! Question, why use fans to blow are in, why not put them at the bottom and use them as true exhaust fans to pull air through from top to bottom and exhaust out? So vents at the top, fans at the bottom? I'm planning to build one myself and struggling to understand why everyone is using them to push air in. Thanks!

    • @TERRORoftheLORD
      @TERRORoftheLORD Před 2 lety

      It blows the hot air from the collector through the wood. Hot air holds more moisture. The top vents control the temperature by how much hot air they let out. The bottom vents control airflow.

      It’s working out pretty well. I don’t have great sunshine where I have it so it seems to take longer than it should, but I have dried 2 loads of wood so far. I just included a link to the fans that I used in the description. Thanks for watching!

    Any updates on how the kiln is working for you? I'm thinking of trying something like this, but I just have an Alaska mill, so it would take me a lot longer to mill the lumber.

    How is it working? Are the radiator fans working out for you. In the process of building my own.

    Watching this, I wonder if two fans are enough. Do you thins there would be benefit in adding an additional fan or two?

    • @AndrewMast
      @AndrewMast  Před 2 lety

      I do think more fans would do better. I think I may add another fan and a larger solar panel. Thanks for watching!

  • @michaelwelborn6576
    @michaelwelborn6576 Před 2 lety

    What size solar panels did you use and how many batteries? How long will the fans run on the batteries?

  • @David-fv7zg
    @David-fv7zg Před 2 lety

    Do you have a resource for your fans, solar panel? How have they held up this far, getting ready to install my baffler system and I dont generally like the box fan setup, Im really interested in the way you did this. Great idea.

    • @AndrewMast
      @AndrewMast  Před 2 lety

      I got the fans from Amazon. I think I put a link in one of the descriptions of a video on the solar kiln. So far they have done well. I need to do an update video soon. Thanks for watching!

    What are the dimensions of the Kiln? Nice looking set up.

    • @AndrewMast
      @AndrewMast  Před 2 lety

      11.5’ x 5.5’. Only reason it’s those dimensions is so I can get it up on a 12x6 trailer and move it if I needed to. Thanks for watching!
