  • Hey guys here is an update to the solar kiln I built 2 years ago. Sorry its taken so long to make another video on it. My plan is to move it to a sunnier location soon. I will have some more videos on that hopefully soon. I have dried four loads in the kiln so far. It takes about 4 months to dry 8/4 lumber and about 2 months for 4/4.

I like the ratchet strap idea.

You hang a tarp on top, from the rafters, it helps with air flow and keeps the sun off...

Good to see your update video. I've been running loads through mine all last year. I ran a wide piece of black plastic stapled below the fans and I drape it down to the top of my slabs. The black increases the temps and it circulates the air down in front of the slabs. I've dried loads in as quick as 3 21 days. Time to build a 2nd one now. Keep at it Andrew.

Good to see how it's performing. Do you have idea what temperatures you have reached? My new priority is killing bugs...have had a lot of powder post damage to my barn-stickered butternut.

Great work on the kiln. Makes me want to finish mine. Where abouts are you located, and what kind of temperature are you able to sustain during the Winter months? Looking forward to subscribing and following along! - Samuel
