I am seeing more "retirement" apartments popping up all over North West Raleigh. I would advise retirees to bring plenty of Zerted and Flo-Nase for the yellow pollent in the Spring. I call it Pollmagedon.

Hahaha ... I moved from Long Island (not a retiree). I keep washing my car with those expensive car washes every week, just to get pollmagedonned again and again.

We have been in Raleigh for a little over 2 years. The car/outdoor furniture gets absolutely covered in pollen in the spring (similar to our experience in Massachusetts). Luckily, we haven't had any issues with allergies, even though my husband is allergic to lots of things.

One thing videos about retiring always seem to forget about is Senior Centers. Up here in the NE we have great Senior Centers with lots of activities and services. Would love to see mention of them in the videos of places we are considering retiring to.

We do have some nice senior centers. But, unfortunately they all cater only to those folks who have already retired. Supposedly, the programs are open to anyone 55+. But.....ALL programs take place Monday through Friday during working hours. Some of us 55-67 folks are still working full-time but would like to participate in these programs and get to know some folks our age!

Health care in Raleigh. This has NOT been my experience. I need to see a specialist about something "as soon as possible" per my Dr. and the appointments are booking 3-4 months out. I brought this up to my primary care physician and she said, "Yes, there's a shortage of specialists in Raleigh."

BS! You have to wait months to get a doctor’s appointment. In three years I’ve seen only RNs which are awesome but if you have bad health forget about it. There’s no reliable public transportation, if you’re not healthy you need care just to get places. You better flock to Europe for medical care at a fraction of the cost here in Raleigh.

As long as a major magazine doesn't put out an issue telling the country that your state and city is the #1 place to live, you'll be ok. See, here in the Triangle, Money magazine did that in the 80s and the flood gates have not closed. 100+ people pour in every day from up north. Crime rate has skyrocketed, shootings every day. And yeah, it is nearly impossible to get a medical appointment now. My last physical was with a duke intern who sat at the computer for 30 minutes reviewing my medications before putting on the stethoscope, listening to my chest in three different places and then sending me to the lab for bloodwork. That was it. pathetic.

This is a terrible place to retire. Awful health care, high taxes, bad infrastructure, horrible horrible customer service, totally unreliable mechanics... this place is full of people struggling to pay the high taxes and cost of living. Your retirement will dry up immediately.

I see nothing has changed in 30 years, all the comments are "don't come here". Raleigh is not Mayberry or even Mount Pilot, ha ha. Don't expect to drink lemonade with Andy Griffith Thumbs down. I would take Kentucky, or rural Virginia ( west of Charlottesville ), or West Virginia. Thanks.

Hottest place I have ever lived in my entire life. This is not western North Carolina, folks. It's hot, it's flat, and the summers will try to k-ll you. Also, the place is overrun with red state Bible belters/Trumpettes as well. Don't do it...just don't do it!
