  • Laugarvatn Fontana is a hot spring spa along the Golden Circle, just an hour and 15 minutes from Reykjavik. It features 4 hot tubs of varying temperatures and is located right next to a lake. There's also a sauna, steam room, and bar. From the pools, you can cold plunge into the lake like a true Viking!
We also toured the geothermal bakery - where Icelanders bake bread in the ground! Because of the natural geothermal areas, there are pockets of the earth that are 100 degrees Celsius - the perfect temperature for slow-baking bread. The dough is placed in a pot and buried in the ground to bake for 24 hours. This tradition has been going on for 300 years before the locals had ovens. The rye bread is eaten with Icelandic butter and Arctic char - SO delicious!
Fontana is a great way to experience the local bathing culture and I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary.

Fontana is my favorite budget hot springs. It’s great to get some of the bread after you soak.

It's such a cool place! We stayed in Laugarvatn a few years ago in an AirBNB. Great base camp to see the golden circle away from Reykjavik.
The parking lot (in the summer at least) is FILLED with little bugs, and across the parking lot is a nice restaurant where you can get Reindeer burgers.

I can’t wait! Booked my trip a few months ago and this video helped me decide on which adventures to take.
Are there any gardens in Reykjavík? I won’t have time to see the Friðheimar tour and the golden circle tours with this greenhouse on the dates we are going are all booked.
I am a gardener by heart and trade and would really love to see an Iceland garden, whatever that may be. My travel dates are over New Years Eve!

Bucket list! I have an acquaintance from there, and I know two families who each took vacations there this past summer. Now I know I must be missing something!

Since I finally got around to making my own golden syrup, I am now making a reasonable copy of the volcano bread. My wife had been using both honey and molasses for years. Not same taste or texture.
The hard part is letting the bread finish overnight in a 200F oven overnight. Baking faster at a higher temperature gives a significant difference in both taste and texture.
Three days in Iceland next spring on return from family visits in Denmark and Faroes. Will wave when we land in Keflavik.
    Time for more coffee.

Absolutely loved this spa. We stayed outside of Laugarvatn at an AirBnB in 2022. As noted, it's a good base camp for the south and the Golden Circle. We took one day off from traveling around to go to the spa. Before we knew it we had spent 5 hours there relaxing and enjoying the pools, the drink, the sauna, the steam room, and the ice cold lake. It was a lovely respite.

@icelandwithaview would you please be so kind to do a video explaining how Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir is planning on implementing a tax to tourists visiting the country as well as explaining why tourists need to purchase a visa on top of a passport? Please understand I'm not trying to push any political agenda I believe it's important to inform people who want to visit Iceland.

I’m assuming this vlog is about promoting tourism spots as experienced by this vlogger. It’s not the focus of this vlog to comment on policy and procedure in the tourism industry. It might be helpful if the official Iceland tourism channel would address this important topic.
