Funny story - Nolan wanted Gary Oldman to play "Ras Al Gul" the villain, but Gary was at a point in his life where he began thinking of his kids & almost all of his parts were weird, crazy or villains. He wanted to play a good guy so they could see Dad more like his real personality. Nolan admired him so much as an actor that he agreed & got Liam Neeson for the bad guy.

Personally I'm glad there wasn't a romance at the end. I've always hated her character for slapping Bruce. Raising a hand against a traumatized individual is just disgusting. If the roles were reversed and Bruce had slapped her, it would have been equally distasteful.

Ra's Al-Ghul translates from Arabic to "head of the demon". In the comic, Ra's is semi-immortal as whenever he his close to death or even sometimes dead, he can be revived via a secret chemical wellspring called the Lazarus pit that he as the head of the league of shadows has sole authority over. Considering how Nolan's take on Batman is meant to be a far more gritty, down to earth rendition of the story, they chose to omit the supernatural stuff.
There's also a bit of a debate over the pronunciation of Ra's Al-Ghul, while the Arabic pronunciation is R-aa-s, the same word in Hebrew is pronounced 'R-aych'. There doesn't seem to be an official pronunciation, so its used interchangeably.

The recent Joker movie isn't really connected to any of the other movies and it's kind of it's own thing.
It's more of an 'art house' deconstruction of what kind of society would lead to a Joker in the first place so in that sense it's not even really a 'superhero' movie.
What I'm saying is that you can really watch it any time you want and it's not going to spoil or impact you're viewing of any of the other movies.

The movie Joker is a totally standalone movie. The movie is it's own take on the Joker's story. Dark Knight's Joker is, far and away, my favorite live-action Joker.

Joker is one of my favorite villains ever. The Dark Knight Joker is my favorite take on Joker. Haven't seen Joker yet, I imagine Joaquin Phoenix is just fantastic in that role. I just didnt' think that movie story would be my cup of tea. But I am going to try and see it some time. I really enjoyed Jack Nicholson as Joker in Tim Burton's Batman movie. But Heath Ledger's Joker is my favorite take on that character.

A couple other faces you started to recognize, yes that was Joffrey and Gordon you likely know as Sirius Black. Joe Chill is the Night King in game of thrones and the exec who fires Lucious... I forget if you've seen Blade Runner or not, but Rutger Haur was in some legendary 80s films.

The Tumbler is a real car, it weights around 3000 kilograms, about twice the weight of a normal car. They built five to keep the filming schedule between repairs. Regarding bullets, the ricochet depends on the jacket of it. Full metal jacket (a movie that I don't know if you have seen yet) are lead bullets covered with copper or copper alloys to make it more rigid and give it some piercing properties, but they ricochet a lot. No jacket bullets are just lead and they are used mainly by police to avoid ricochet.

Dr. Jonathan Crane is one of Batman's iconic nemeses in the comics: the Scarecrow. His fear-toxin is so potent that it will drive anyone exposed to it irrevocably insane with horrific and terror-inducing hallucinations. I really like that they started the series off with him as the villain here, and kind of led up to the Joker.
One thing you should keep in mind too: Bruce Wayne is the facade. Batman is who he really is.
I've always felt that Batman after the 80's had evolved into something of a Punisher-lite; wanting to bring justice to the bad guys but not killing to do so. The "Worlds' Greatest Detective" schtick kind of fell by the wayside during that period in favor of the action.
I also really liked Christian Bale's Batman voice in this one a lot better than in the others, in those it just sounds like he's trying too hard.

Michael Caine - Alfred - could play any character whether it be a pompous british officer in Zulu, a pilot in the Battle of Britain, a conman in the Italian Job, Ebenezer Scrooge, an abortion doctor in Cider House, a butler in Batman, etc.. - an excellent actor who will be missed sorely when he finally passes.

The idea that there are people who know about the character of the Joker (thanks to the Joker movie, for instance, or his connection to Harley Quinn and Suicide Squad, plus having had multiple big actors play him), and yet not know that he is Batman's main nemesis, and that's literally where the character originally came from, is frankly mind-blowing.
We are living in discombobulating times.
