    You make some good points, especially the last one - dont let videoing be more important than participating.
    Also your future self will not enjoy crazy effects, distorted views or added creativity. Just record some things you saw and heard and make a short video of the good bits.

    Great video Ben. I ended up getting the Insta GPS remote, as it can attach to your wrist OR the selfie stick. Comes in handy for the extended selfie stick. I also clamp my camera to the backboard at basketball games, so the remote is definitely needed. One thing I'd like to see SOMEONE do is settings and tips for indoor shooting (like parties, family events, etc)

    Continually impressed by your presentation & photography skills. Delightfully watchable and packed with tips.
    On the topic of enjoying your experience live - absolutely have to agree.
    These things are just 'tools' and shouldn't take over being alive in scene because human senses are still more rich than what ends up as a flat screen moving picture.
    I wanted to do a timelapse of a Sunrise and had a new camera and smartphone to try out - I also took my old faithful Sony DSLR & hooked it up to an old phone to use trigger trap to get a timelapse, while my new Canon does timelapse as a built-in feature and I even put my iPad on the car roof on straight video mode - all pointing roughly at where I expected the sun to come up and with different levels of zoom.
    Once all the kit was set up - I had nothing to do but wait.
    However, I'd planned ahead and made myself some of my breakfast patties of bacon, oatmeal, laver bread & onions and also knocked up a sort of egg roll, so I took a heat pack (the kind you pour water into) and also a flask of Earl Grey blue flower tea.
    So, I sat in the middle of this field having a luxury breakfast as the Sun rose - the Dawn chorus began around me and I just revelled in the awesome experience - I mean I'm talking about a religious experience (it was on that level).
    Later, when the Sun came up higher and the landscape was lit up I took some long lens shots of the local hills.
    I got home and edited it all together, because even an hour's worth of recorded footage was only a few minutes of video.
    Luckily the zoomed shots came in handy and showed up more details in the rolling clouds on the horizon.
    I even pulled in the zoomed stills of the hills and a moon shot I'd taken the night before - because, in fact, the moon was just sinking when I got on site.
    Overall, I think I got a reasonable video together - but I'll never forget the actual experience of being there.
    So, I figure that cameras (of ANY type) are good for memories, MY memories.
    It is nice to share and for people to compliment my work, but, honestly, some of these were truly great experiences and the videos always remind me of those times.
    The one surprising accessory I love is my bluetooth hat. A woolly hat with built in speakers and a head light. So I can listen to music or audio narrations while I work and for night shots the head light is really handy.

    I'm wary of relying on large memory cards due to corruption - my 256gb card (same one shown in the vid) suddenly couldn't be read by my x3 while on my latest holiday, had to go on a long journey to find a store that sold a compatible card to use for the rest of my holiday.
    Thankfully when I got home the card was still readable by my laptop and I didn't lose the footage. But def plenty of experiences of people with sd card corruption. May be best to free up space on your phone (assuming not travelling with laptop) and backup your clips there.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yeah backing up is also a solution- as cards can corrupt regardless of the size. That said, I have never had it happen with the Sandisk extreme pro, and would prefer to have just 1 card than many.

    Buying multiple smaller SD-cards while traveling may actually being better then go to the ultimate.
    Depending where you're going, you may got robbed. Something could happen to your luggage/camera. You could lose your luggage/camera. Or the SD-card could get corrupted.
    In either case you still will have some saved recordings left when divided over several cards (and separately stored).

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  Před 8 měsíci

      Sure- although if your gear gets stolen then so do all of your SD cards. I’ve never had the Sandisk card corrupt ever, so I personally prefer to get the bigger card to help make life much simpler.

    • @rockels_journals
      @rockels_journals Před 8 měsíci

      @@BenClaremont Well dividing cards and data and then keeping them in the same bag or together with the gear doesn't make much sense no.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  Před 8 měsíci

      @Rockels_Journals it’s really a personal preference. If you prefer to be extra cautious, then by all means go for the smaller cards. Also back up your footage at the end of each day.

    • @rockels_journals
      @rockels_journals Před 8 měsíci

      @@BenClaremont That's true. But also depending on which areas you're going to visit.
      You may have more chance of being robbed for instance when exploring or filming in a crowded city, then when doing the same in a remote and peaceful village or in a nature reserve.
      Also depends on the country or political situation.
      I'm traveling a lot in Latin America on my own. Which has a pretty high chance of getting robbed. So always keeping that in mind.
      Here in Europe I could easily walk around and wave the cameras in all directions without relatively much risk.
