    I stumbled on this by mistake. I’m going to tell you what you don’t want to hear: you lack confidence because you lack the fundamentals. Going fakie is not moving backwards without knowing where you are actually going…you can’t get to the coping because you hunch forward and don’t follow the curvature of the transition. You hunch forward on every single trick. You have to learn to bend your knees but the issue is you have no feeling for what is “under your feet”. You can definitely start aggressive skating right off the gbat, you do you, but it’s going to be 100 times more difficult because you don’t have the basics down 100%

    • @inlineonline
      @inlineonline  Před 3 měsíci +4

      Yeah you're 100% right I definitely know that, I come from skateboarding so I can't help myself haha If you watch my first video from my first week of rollerblading you'll see that I started front side grinding like 4 days after getting my skates. 4 months later I know how to soul grind mizu acid grind and front side pretty well on rails and ledges but I've spent about 90% of that time grinding and 10% of that time skating around lol now that the weather is actually better I'm going to try to spend more time working on the fundamentals and just doing some real urban skating. I do so many other forms of cardio It's hard for me to want to do rollerblading for that if that makes sense. Like I'm mountain bike, I road bike, I run, I hike etc so it's tough to fit in urban skating on top of aggressive park skating. It's a lot easier to spend 30 minutes working on grinds in my driveway than it is driving a somewhere that I can urban skate comfortably. I live on the east coast main road with terrible potholes everywhere so commuting out my front door is not really an option lol
      And I'm not gonna lie, grinding feels so good it's hard to put my skates on and want to do anything else. I had to force myself to even try transition skating today lol

      @@darkoale3299 sure but I really don't plan on doing that, I ride bikes and mountain bikes and have so many hobbies, Im just not really interested in urban skating, it's not convenient enough. I have to drive to find pavement without massive potholes. It's just not worth the time commitment. And I know more grinds in 6 months than some people who have Urban skating for a decade so I honestly don't think it translates much at all. And I wouldn't say aggressive inline is the hardest type of inline, aggressive inline is only as hard as you want it to be lol for example it's easier to a soul grind than it is soul stop.
      Just the other day my friend rollerbladed for the first time in his life and he did his first soul grind 10 minutes later. I think some people like you get this idea that aggressive inline is way harder than it actually is, It just takes a little bit of commitment and willingness to fail.
      If I had listened to people like you I would have had so much less fun in this sport, instead I got a nice bag of tricks I can take to any skatepark with a ledge or rail and enjoy myself.

    the most useful trick in a rollerbladers arsenal is falling correctly. if you have hard plastic cover kneepads learn how to slide on them and dont have your pants covering them otherwise you will stick to the ground and tumble uncontrollably and if you have no padding what so ever learn how to roll when falling. do trail skating and wood ramp skating so that you can learn how to skate slippery and really rough environments. you can do it bruv i believe in you. signed fl3xlopez

    Aye bro, kinda enjoying seeing your journey but if i can give one main tip.. youre trying too much too early. Get comfy on the skates first before you wipe yourself out and break your stuff. As a 34yo beginner I take it slow and steady and try to actually master the fundamentals and 2 or 3 grinds properly, try steezong it out before jumping to the next trick, good luck brother 🙌🏽

    Haha the CP2077 music in the background. Man you're brave. I would start a lot slower than that. Latch on ledges while standing still to get them locked in, and approach quarter pipes just skimming them at an angle, just "surf" them (just have fun doing that) until you can be confident enough to get to the top.

    • @inlineonline
      @inlineonline  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I've actually done that quite a bit in another video, I learned how to do front side stalls to fakie on a slightly smaller but steeper cement quarter pipe and I can "surf" the transition, go to fakie, and safely 180 up and down every time. My biggest issue is simply staying on the ramp and riding up it. Like I was sucking myself out and simply jumping halfway up the ramp instead of riding up it like I should have haha glad someone recognized the music !!

    Aggressive rollerblading is really hard and there is a good reason why only so few people are doing it. I have mad respect for you that you are doing it at all. To give you one advice: learn to go fakie and then to roll into a transition and backwards out. You can do that very slow. That is the way for older people to feel out the necessary balance shifts. It's like learning to use a swing - but much harder. So like a child learning to use a swing, you need to feel out balance and gravity. Unlike other people here, I would say that it's better to do that slowly and not to go with more speed into a transition you don't know and can't really control. By the way: th subtile music that you put on the skatepark part really well pointed out how you felt in that moment. Very good editing!

    You need to get your elbow checked out. That’s first off man. It shouldn’t be killing you to extend or put pressure on it that bad if you’ve taken time off. Also focus on skating around the park first before hitting obstacles. Use that time to warm up. Stop jumping to reach the coping. You don’t have enough speed for that. Watch flower she rolls CZcams on ramp skating. It’s very helpful. And sit low when you attempt tricks. Don’t bend over. You’ll fall forward every time.

    What stands out to me is that you arent staggering your feet when you hit the ramp. Try having one foot a little bit out in front of the other. It will help your balance and center of gravity.
    On a 1/4 that is concrete or part of the ground it's less important, but hitting that metal transition with antirocker skates can throw off your balance if you arent used to it.

    • @inlineonline

      Yeah I definitely felt like I was tensing up so much as soon as I went over that metal sheet. I think practicing in a nice smooth miniramp would be better for me. One tip I think would help you is before you hit the ramp, imagine a full circle which would be if you extended the bow of the ramp. Whenever you hit the surface where it changes from flat to bow try to have your posture and head pointing in the direction of the center of this imaginary circle. When you feel you cant go up the ramp its because all of your energy is continuing forwards instead of transitioning upwards with the ramp. At 4:00 this really shows. You should lean more back here.
    Same goes when you drop in. You stand at the coping and lean into the circle, and let go when your head points to the center.
    Plus tip. Go to the park when others are there, most will like to help out and give tips and feedback

    Just skating around and getting loosened up and the blood pumping a bit before you even attempt any tricks will do you the world of good. At 37 i have to do this most times these days.
    As other people have said just get super confident just rolling around , no need to rush anything, it can be a slow process so just keep at it, consistency is key! For grinds i’d just keep practicing on the little ledges and your practice box. The temptation to go and try bigger stuff is always there but will do you no good at this stage. Just get super confident and try and skate consistently a few times a week for a few hours and you’ll soon see progression.
    Wish you all the best in your blading journey, dont give up! ✌🏼

    You are hunching forward into the ramp instead of letting your feet ride up to the coping. You said it correct in the begging. push through your heels and flick your toes up the transition. Now just commit! You'll get there man keep it up! I know it feels scary at first but you need to keep your body more perpindicular to the ramp you are leaning to far forward as you are reaching the top, and trying to jump out of the ramp. Try this: as you are approaching remind yourself "feet First" then your body should follow. Your feet should leave the ramp fist before your body, if your feet arent rolling out then it's not time to exit. practice reps of just rolling up and touching the copping with your wheels and rolling back down fakie. Keep doing it over and over.

    • @inlineonline

  • @Rollerlife
    @Rollerlife Před 2 měsíci

    Going up the ramp you need more speed and let the ramp take you out . Keep one foot a bit further away from the other always, that will give you more stability.
    And when dropping in it's good to practice having both feet on the coping (rail) don't drop in, just get comfortable standing in the rail with the front wheels in the air.
    Once you're comfortable lean a bit forward and as soon as you feel your dropping in, take your stronger leg further forward. You always want to keep a good distance one foot an front of the other... And then keep going at it! You'll get it soon. Just always use full protection and if you can, get the bowl kneepads, that changed my life regarding falls and getting hurt. Also, at first elbow and wrist guard.
    Falling shouldn't hurt your confidence, but getting hurt usually does.
    And if anything don't don't contacting me!😊

    Interesting video, if you had someone skilled skating with you, they could correct your mistakes quickly, they are super obvious to us, and you'd progress much faster. Your practicing wrong technique over and over without knowing forming bad habit, but when you're alone it's tough. The comment by GianniSiffredi is pretty accurate to my advice as well. When I started out, i used to drill the mini ramps, pump up and down, forwards, fakie, 180 turns, learning both directions, really worked on getting my balance good as a whole. With grinds, I start with a standing jump and get my feet locking comfortably correctly, and then progressively add speed, because you only get one go at an awkward fall. Keep it up, and I def would try find others to skate with.

    Dude, you aren't bad at all. I can't do any stalls or grinds so everything you do on the box is one up on me. I do what you do going up a ramp too - I jump out when I should be rolling out. It's all to do with confidence - that trailing leg is my safety crutch. But I think I'm a little bit smoother than you, and the only reason is that I hit the ramp with more speed. You seem to be going too slow. Skate really hard at the ramp and get up some speed, and that will take you up the ramp even if you're not pumping the transition great and you're still jumping onto the deck instead of rolling. Speed!

      yeah I'm definitely going waaay too slow, I was just scared of it that day I think, I know what I need to do now I just need to relax and set it happen. Feels like when I first learned to soul grind tbh, felt literally impossible and then one day I could do 10 in a row lol once it clicks it clicks but something about transition skating makes me overthink everything. I used to skateboard as well but I never did transition with that either lol its a theme for me to suck at ramps

  • @ervalhous
    @ervalhous Před 3 měsíci +3

    Let the ramp get you up the deck, instead of trying to jump at it. Or maybe get used to going up and down in a single go before trying to stall it. Give your body time to heal, it's no fun to skate injured, specially when you don't have enough of a trick vocabulary to get you bad side cleared.

    • @inlineonline
      @inlineonline  Před 3 měsíci

      yeah its tough for me to force myself to take a day off, since its an elbow injury I can skate just fine until I fall lmao but I'm always gonna fall a little bit especially while learning. And I didn't even notice I was jumping so early on the ramp until I watched the video, I can't want to go back fully healed and just try to ride it straight up. I've gone up and down and bit and I even did frontside stalls on a QP in another video, but I'm really not comfortable with either. I'm gonna go to a park with a big bowl so I can just get comfortable pumping without thinking about doing stalls or getting up to the coping

    • @Fredward1986
      @Fredward1986 Před 3 měsíci

      Sounds like a good plan, but you can still practice pumping with just a 1/4, it's just a lot slower as you can only practice forwards or fakie at one time. I think for that session you had your sights set a little too high.

    • @AntwonJenkins
      @AntwonJenkins Před 3 měsíci

      For quarter/half pipes it's not so much jumping as it is leaning and just weight distribution to get on the coping. Jumping will help launch you out/off the ramp. I suck so yeah that's my 2¢.

    Love the dedication. But I have a tip. Honestly I think you need to just skate more without the tricks. When I see you just skating around, I can tell you are not comfortable enough to bend your knees a lot. sooooo much balance and maneuverability comes with skating with your knees bent. If you find yourself EVER with your knees locked, it better be during a turn or on going fast with long strides. otherwise you should have bent knees. how can you push off good with straight legs like you have? you cant really. How can you go for a grind without knees bent? knees bent 76-90% of the time.

    You are trying to fly before you know how to crawl, spend less time trying to grind and do trucks and spend more time just rolling around,. You lack the fundamentals give yourself a good foundation to work from before you get frustrated coz you can't do loads of tricks it will come with time but without the basics you are setting yourself up for frustration. Skate with others helps too, watching other people helped me alot

      I can do souls, acids, frontsides, pstars, mizous, and just started learning royales. This video is 2 weeks old and I skate almost everyday, I just hit 20 acid grinds in a row on my coping box the other day lol Thank god I didn't listen to people like you otherwise I would actually be frustrated not learning grinds, instead I am learning grinds pretty easily lol I learned pstars in under 10 minutes from first stall to sliding my entire prail. I skateboarded growing up so its a nice change of pace learning grinds so easily
      keep watching :) you'll see that some people learn things different than others, I definitely need to get better at skating around but grinds only last 1 or 2 seconds, I'm still skating around waaaaay more than I'm grinding lol This day at the skatepark was me purposely leaving my comfort zone. For less than 4 months, I'd say learning 5 grinds (to fakie as well), drop ins, frontside stall to fakie, 180s and 360s is pretty damn good. If you watch my first video and then compare it to my latest videos you'll see how much better my fundamentals are than before. But again its only been 4 months, Its going to take awhile to "look" like someone who skated their entire life and then decided to learn grinds after lol
      tons of people said I would never learn how to grind and I was doing too much too fast when I learned frontside grinds within my first week.... but here I am 4 months later with 5 other grinds, some that I can easily land 20 in a row on my coping. No offense, but I'm so happy I don't let these type of comments discourage me from learning new tricks. I wouldn't have fallen in love with grinding if I listened to you.

    Ur feet are too squared up, have one skate a little more in front of the other for more stability, as u ride up the ramp then bring both feet together a little more to boost you up
    Don’t lean back!

    That is NOT a good quarter to learn on! There is a clear jolt at the bottom AND the wood of the transition is hardly bent. It's almost a bank. This will not give you the feel of a real quarter. And it makes it harder. Transitions like this also make it harder to create or keep momentum.

    • @inlineonline

    To go up the quarter, as mentioned you hunch forward too early, you have to bend your knees at the start of the transition and kinda push your feet upfront before leaning your upper body forward to keep balance. As for soul grind, you have to work on forward ankle flexibility, your knee should be aligned with toes if not further for your makio foot and upper body leaning forward, would help a lot. Will come with practice.
