- I've never known what to make of Nayim's goal. Was that really what he meant to do? I think it was roughly 98% luck, 1% audacity and 1% trying to waste a bit of time and play for penalties, but perhaps I'm doing him a disservice. I certainly won't deny that it looked spectacular - but "jammy" doesn't even begin to cover it! I dunno...
Speaking of which, John Barnes can't do that! One for the scrapbook, indeed. I bet he was out for weeks following his acrobatics in scoring that goal. I'm convinced that Matt Le Tissier's goal against Blackburn took the gong this year, and deservedly so. Andy Clarke netted a fine effort to be a contender, but I've little doubt that the irony factor played and even bigger part in its selection (a passing goal by Wimbledon against Liverpool - perish the thought!).
The music, incidentally, is The Life of Riley by the Lightning Seeds - a song I will forever associate with the Goal of the Month/Season competition.
(Please remember that this is an off-air VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.) - Sport
Matt Le Tissier could have had a top 10 Premier League goals collection all on his own. A sublime player, woefully underused if not overlooked by England.
Le god
Brilliant Goal Scorer All Day Long
Offered nothing in general play though hence playing for Southampton all his life
@@rnmusic-gt7zw What does that mean? Kept them in the league for several years. You sound like an eejit.
Miss the 90s, better, simpler times in almost all aspects. Take me back
I always say that! So much better!
Thankfully we got to experience it.
I genuinely do miss these older years of the premier league some of the best times, proper premier league days unlike today
No matter which team you supported Matts goals were legendary
I actually expected more than the 2 goals from Matt Le Tiss to be in here..And that Nayim goal is still HILARIOUS
How could Nayim's Effort be a goal of the Season Candidate?, as let's Face it, that goal really didn't come through Skill, more Chip & Hope?.😂
@@kennethnorris4920 Ronaldinho did the same thing to Seaman in the 2002 World Cup. It's basically the reason we went out of it.
Matt le Tissier might as well have Life of Riley played at his funeral. (Copyright @FootballCliches)
Yes! That's an absolutely blinding suggestion.
😂
Beauty of a comment!
..but where was his free kick against Wimbledon? unless that was the '93-'94 season. yeah, maybe it was.
John C Yes, date for that was 26th Feb ‘94.
Le Tissier v Blackburn! Absolute quality goal scorer! One of the best ever!
That's the sign of a genuinely great goal - when all rivalries go to one side and everyone applauds the moment of genius they've just witnessed.
Gives me pleasure to say I saw 3 of these with my own eyes (Barnes, Shearer and Le Tissier). Le Tiss quite rightly won GOTS...I remember the whole ground applauding after it went in.....watch the Rovers fans clapping behind the goal at 1:39
You were privileged, even though two of those went against your team (I'm guessing). The reaction when Le Tiss's went in partly proves my case that it's one of the very best goals ever, not just that season!
I had the pleasure of seeing the Ndluv goal. A very good goal, but we were a division below
and I think some of our defenders weren't up to scratch that season unfortunately!
Whose eyes did you see the others with?
@@noelmadden1920 Abraham Lincoln's
Le Tiss's outrageous, measured, curling, dipping, cannon ball into the top corner, after creating space with 3 bamboozling touches is a true masterpiece.
Le tiss v Blackburn class
Definitely agree. It's almost like the guy was running his own Goal of the Decade competition throughout the 90s, wasn't it? :-)
was in the top tier right behind that goal when he scored, there was little else we could do apart from clap him, absolute genius
old don you
@@hazzohd2127 "The Don" will do mate, less of the old 😂
Forget the goals for a second, the commentators here were some of the greatest of all time: Davies, Motson, Tyldesley.... Some of the best ever to narrate football matches. It really was a better time back then to be a footie fan.
Forgot to mention Tony Gubba here too who always used to ‘yes’ when somebody scored
@@AsifKhan-du5nr Gerald Sinstadt - "One - Nothing"
I've got the instrumental for life of Riley. Used to listen to it on my way to playing 5 a side. Glorious
Life of Riley is literally the only authentic football soundtrack for me.
Nayim's goal was something great and unexpected in a split second that changed the history of that game against Arsenal. Although Barnes' goal also seems very remarkable to me, I think Nayim's is better than all goals.
Shouldn't have ever been included, it wasn't even in the premier league and it wasn't even on the BBC. MOTD back in the early 90s just hated Arsenal!
I bet that was a day to remember! Both Spurs and Liverpool had teams that were well worth watching back then.
I've never actually been at a live match when a Goal of the Month winner has been scored - part of the "joys" of being a Peterborough United fan... :-/
Goal 5 by Le Tissier did win it actually. And I agree - definitely one of the best Premier League goals you'll ever see!
nobody had the internet, and hardly anyone had mobile phones back then. The world moves so fast
The Internet was around but was more limited
Been digging through your channel and I'm glad I found this. Le Tissier's chip against the Rovers was a piece of fine art, skimming through those defenders like if those defenders were me before nicking that goal from 40 yards away. Bloody legendary. Undoubtedly one of the most phenomenal shots in Premier League history, and the man himself was so underused it's criminal. I don't even think Le Tiss has even had a _bad_ shot in his whole career. Hell, you can even see some of the Blackburn supporters in the crowd cheering him on after that, which I can honestly respect.
Yeah, it's probably still my favourite Premier League goal. I think the Blackburn fans _and_ Tim Flowers all had a sort of "Well, nothing we can do about that, so may as well enjoy it" sort of attitude about it.
@@VideotapeFTW Better attitude than most Chelsea fans these days
Matt le tissiers goals where fantastic strikes. Stan collymores goal was good as well.
Matt Le Tissier All day Day Long,,,scored some sick goals... Used To Love Seeing His Goals
Matt Le Tissier against Blackburn is just amazing. But his goal at Villa is right up there. No danger at all then bang out of nowhere top corner. awesome
I think the best way to describe Stan is an "individual" rather than an "egomaniac". Having seen him interviewed in recent years, I have a lot more sympathy for him now than I did back then. His head definitely wasn't in the right place on many occasions, but at the top of his game there was no stopping him.
Le Tissier was in almost every motd 90s goal of the season review.
Dimitri Kharine's hair wins this contest, hands down.
Wins by a nose from his trousers.
Barry Venison second place then.
I used to love the smell of my sticker album. It only dawned on me fairly recently that my eight-year-old self was probably getting slightly high on the glue.
I always loved getting the silver club crests. Was over the moon to get the Arsenal one twice.
The magnificent meeting of minds: Lynam ‘10 goals, pick your favourite’, 90s football and ‘the life of Riley’ instrumental. Glastonbury 23 brought me here tonight
Have to say matts goal against Blackburn absolute class
Amazing goals, even more amazing was Wimbledon playing like Barcelona in their prime in the lead up to their goal.
Shearer's goal was so good it beat the camera as well as the keeper!
For me this was the best era in football in my time.... Probably because I was 14/15 in that season and a Man United fan ( Yes I know Blackburn won the league in 95) but we were clearing up in the 90's. I used to enjoy motd back then watching the likes of Le Tissier scoring them 30 - 40 yard goals which he made look so easy.
Im pretty sure Le Tissiers second goal in this list got goal of the season that year.
John Barnes sensational
The fact that the entire Blackburn end gave Le Tissier an ovation tells you everything you need to know.
Besides anything else, I still don't know how Seaman managed to get his jump so hilariously wrong. I reckon Ronaldinho was taking notes, though...
Seaman was shit from distance.
Poor judgement and footwork
Goal 5, Le Tissier v Blackburn, took the award.
Thank God Peter Ndlovu is recovering now from the car crash.
I love how casual he looks afterwards, almost saying, "Oh, yes, I do this all the time..."
Le Tissier, the most underrated genius in premier league history. What a player.Flowers was a first class keeper at the time and still got nowhere near it.Le Tis 👌
Some absolute peaches in this but I'd have to go for Matt Le Tissiers goal against Blackburn closely followed by John Barnes goal. Le Tissier was easily one of the top players in the Prem in the mid 90s. The Nayim one was a freak but hardly surprising to see David Seaman once again beaten from long range. It was his Achilles heel.
Nayim can lob Seaman from 40 yards away, now that's impressive!
hahaha
I remember the original version of that joke, which was "what is the similarity between an elephant and Nayim?" You can guess the rest lol
1:22 The Blackburn fans clapping Le Tissier's goals tells you how special that was! No competition Goal of the decade!!
Football just had a much better "feel" to it back then. Not the high-stakes financial institution it is these days.
Old comment, but as much as the 1990s were a fun time, it was most definitely not an era of innocence. In fact, this very season - 94/95 - still stands out as particularly scandalous and sinful.
Le Tissier celebration after the blackburn goal is like "business as usual 🤷"
Goal A.... I've just phoned my vote in ☺️
+Algrim "Ginger-Fist" Durinsson ...And you've probably just been charged about £12 per minute by the BBC. ;-)
VideotapeFTW lol, yea no doubt. Good video btw as it brings back memories of players I watched through childhood. I was like damn yea I remember him and started googling certain players to see what they're up to now👍
+Algrim "Ginger-Fist" Durinsson Glad you enjoyed it! It was a good time for football - not long before money *really* took over the game - and I think these Goal of the Season vids capture the era perfectly.
VideotapeFTW Very true!
What's Stan Collymore up to now?
1:36 it always cracks me up that Tim Flowers actually tried to do something with Le Tissiers shot ! LOL what ever he was trying to do he just ended up on his back ! He should have just stood there and admired it like the rest of us !
Both Le Tissier goals. he was something special.
I remember it well - John Barnes was converted to a 'holding' midfielder because his legs were giving out. And then he went and did *that* overhead kick!
9 ok goals and Le Tissiers masterclass against Blackburn. If he didn't win it was fixed.
I too regard this as a great season - probably the best I can remember. :-) It was not long after this that the Premiership just got too big for its own good, in my humble opinion.
Despite running with the ball from his own half Peter Ndlovu only has to beat one defender, bet Alan Hansen ripped into that West Brom defending.
The best cast of goal of the month ever. Nayim from the half way line.
Collymore with the OG Ronaldo haircut
What a true English legend. Matt Le TIssier.
Pains me to say it but Matt le Tiss wins that comfortably.
Le Tissier v Blackburn by a mile, a truly unique strike.
Former Coventry, Birmingham, Sheffield United and Huddersfield winger Peter Ndlovu has been critically injured in a car crash in his native Zimbabwe.
The accident, in Victoria Falls, claimed the life of his elder brother Adam, who was also a professional footballer.
The pair were returning from a friendly match between the Highlanders Legends and a Victoria Falls team.
A female passenger is also reported to have died in the accident.
Great stuff - my first year of being a football fan and what a season it was! If only Spurs had made it to the cup final, Jurgen might have stayed longer.
You know what mate that was my exact same thought watching this video! Especially the Andy Clarke picture! For me the golden era of the Premiership. I seem to remember this season's album being blue with Paul Merson and Ryan Giggs on the front, and the year later it was black! Ah, I can still feel the disappointment now of opening 8 packs in one go and getting Lee Clark or Frank Sinclair at least twice in them!
No.5 is way out in front. Could not have have placed it with his hands any better. Just sensational!
Incredible video quality?! Thanks for the u/l.
What a finish from Andy Cole, the best era for football this
matt le tissier definitely won it this season. i'm probably biased cos i'm a big saints fan, but that's one of the best strikes of a football i've ever seen. he knew exactly what he was doing. he didnt just put his laces through it and hope for the best. just placed it into the top corner. perfect. the blackburn supporters clapping him afterwards shows how good it was
Really liked Sheringham's. Great ball forward, nice backheel and turn from Klinsman, perfectly weighted lay-off and a lovely side-footed finish from Sheringham.
Collymore's was cool as well: nice ball control to control the ball at the start, lovely dribbling around the first defender, pure pace past the second and an emphatic finish.
There's a generation who have no idea how scarily good Stan Collymore was at one point, before the wheels came off.
VideotapeFTW Yeah it's true, he was amazing at Forest. Started well at Liverpool but he was always on the razzle and it caught up with him. Big guys like that don't stay at the top long if they are living fast.
+Jimmy Dixon So many potentially great footballers have flushed away their careers like that. (Too many of them British, as well...)
That's the quality of football you might find from the great Tottenham Hotspur
+James Iyer Although I think it's fair to say that, for a lot of the 90s and 00s, that was the exception rather than the rule. Not too shabby at all now, of course!
God I miss my dad so much ❤❤❤
Congratulations on making the majority of people watching this feel unbelievably old! ;-)
I love it when Le Tissier scores at 1.40. All the blackburn fans just sit there clapping. Fair play.
Forrrr the life of rilllleeeey
Still the tune that comes into my head when I hear the phrase "Goal of the Month".
Christ. The Nostalgia.
Lightning Seeds music, Alan Shearer with hair, Des Lynam. Brilliant.
What a privilege to have been there! Sometimes all you can do is take your hat off to an opposition player, especially when they do something like *that*.
@VideotapeFTW I'll agree with you on that one!! Best PL goal ever. Even as a Rovers fan I'll never tire of watching it again and again...it's just pure artistry. Also love the way he points at his old mate Tim Flowers to celebrate!!
Shearer's was an astonishing strike but didn't get good camera coverage. Was less of a looper than Le Tissier's, just pure power spanked in off the bar.
Le Tiss vs. Blackburn
Shearer
Le Tiss vs. Villa
I was enjoying these goals until I got to number 10. That's one goal I never want to remember 😫
Pretty sure that year there were once 3 Le T goals out of 10 for the Goal of the Month. None were flukes and none were superfluous. Blackburn we lost 3:2 but look at his face after scoring - the result was all, to him the goal wasn't important. Beckham would have launched a new aftershave before the restart. Le Tiss might bring 30 seconds of magic but that magic was unique and justified the ticket price and more. An absolutely irreplaceable talent and one that I'm glad I was there to appreciate.
He wasn't the British record transfer fee holder for nothing. On his day, he was top notch - absolutely unplayable. How much would a major side pay today for someone with his pace, power, skill and finishing abilities?
Exactly! The hyperbole that surrounds modern football has blown a lot of people's judgement out of all proportion, to the extent that young fans will say "Stan who?" while deifying any old showpony that prances about the pitch, . But when I see old clips of Stan at his best, what with his pace, his power, his control-at-speed and his blistering finishing, squint your eyes and (dare I say it) you could almost be fooled into thinking you're watching an old clip of Ronaldo. Such a sad waste.
I miss the Men’s game of the 1990s
You never see goals scored now like you did then
Wow - and I remember most of these like they were yesterday...
Love the music.
Last goal was a beauty
Lost in a 90s match of the day Milky Way....
It didn't help that certain media outlets took an instant dislike to him, and frankly revelled in his personal problems. (Same goes for Gascoigne in that respect.) The fact that Collymore ended his career with a grand total of three England caps is bordering on scandalous.
@VideotapeFTW I couldn't disagree more. It was *exactly* what he meant to do. He clearly saw Seaman off his line, the ball sat up perfectly for him and he went for it....99% audacity, 1% luck.
Some amazing goals there. But, "Nayim from the halfway line", legendary.
Strange how they had one Cup Winners Cup goal in amongst all the Prem goals, but I guess it was against a Prem team and something quite special.
Matt le tissier only scored worldys.
Saw him live many times and every goal was top drawer
Gr8 vid and music, hate nayim remember cryin as a little lad when that happened, some gr8 goals in there clarkes is my favourite.
If it was shown on the BBC, it was eligible for the Goal of the Month/Season competition. It doesn't work like that any more, of course.
@cen2s2s You're truly privileged! That goal from Le Tissier may still be the best that the Premier League has ever seen - way ahead even of Beckham's halfway line jobbie, in my opinion.
They always said on the packet that the stickers were all printed in equal numbers - which goes nowhere to explaining why I'd get about 20 Wimbledon silvers before a Man Utd or Liverpool one showed up...
Ahh back in the days when football used to be fun to watch
VideotapeFTW love your vids, I have loads of old MOTDs and Man United reviews on video, love digging them out. Gotta disagree with you on Nayim's strike though...it was speculative for sure, but what else was he trying to do? From the moment he hits it you can tell he's waiting to see if he's pulled it off or not. Great - and unusual - goal!
You can tell Le Tiss' against blackburn was a great goal when the opposition fans stand up and applaud after.Class
Ah, those days of Shearer, Fowler, Ferdinand, Cole, Collymore, Le Tissier (if we're counting him as a "striker")... And still England couldn't take advantage and cobble together a top side. It should have been a goal-fest under Venables!
VideotapeFTW To be fair Venebles had a top side and we came close when football came home in 96 but we were done by our old foes the Germans in the Semis, we were the team of that tournament though with some of the football we played. Gazza against Scotland is still one of the best goals youll ever see.
Holy shit , what goals and what a time for football and the BBC . Sky sports overkilled and ultimately destroyed the modern day money driven shambles that is was the beautiful game
hahaha brilliant, no one can rub in a result so devasting quite like an opposition fan - horrible to be on the end of, great to be giving it out
Best goal ever to be scored at Elland Road - Rod Wallace
Did Le Tiss ever score a bad goal? What a player
Ha! Those were the days... I used to have both the original and CM2 on the PC, along with Ultimate Soccer Manager in the mid-90s. Who'd have thought you could make such great games out of a cross between a database, a spreadsheet, and a random number generator? Good times... :-)
