Did you have to replace the tension unit on your 31-15? I have this same machine and the tension unit looks worn out. I think the 31-15s were used a lot more than the standard home treadle and need more refurbishing work

Is there anything more recent....like 2019? I've watched all these many times each!!!!!

So i tried fmq on my machine but it will stitch in only two directions and not the opposite. (If that makes sense). It might sew when i stitch left to right, but not right to left. Do you have any trouble shoot ideas for that.

I have a chance to buy a 31k what is the difference between that and a 31-15. Here is the model number EC791712 and the color of the machine is grey I guess what I'm asking is will the 31k be used to sew leather upholstery with a roller foot?

If you like the singer 15, the big version is the singer 16. You can use the regular needles in that as well instead of lining up the thread hole on the needle with the DBx1. My 1883 improved manufacture is like the 16 but uses the Improved Family bobbins and are hard to find. Both machines are 10 and 1/2 inch work space same as the singer 31.

I keep my eye out for the 16...haven't seen one yet but some day :) I have about 40 machines....so not sure I have room for too many more :)

My really old 16k33 has low shank feet and a non-standard sized (bigger) base. I will need to clear it for action and give it a try.

I have a 31-15 made in 1910 that seems to have a higher shank than yours. The juke foot didn't reach the plate at any time. I bought an adapter to shorten the shank to almost a low shank, but then the needle pin is so high that the timing of the hop is wrong, keeping the foot in a hop for too long. The existing old foot even looks like it has an extra extension soldered on. Do you know anything about this strange shank size? I was so hoping to be able to do fmq with it!

Alison...I have the same problem with a 1906 Singer 31-20 that I got recently. Just got the Juki foot today and it is not long enough to reach the needle plate. It also doesn't clamp completely around the presser bar either. I wonder if the older 31s were made slightly different and that's why the Juki foot, or even other lhigh-shank feet don't work on them? Did you find a high-shank darning foot that will work with your machine??

My 1957 Singer 31-15 has the same problem... the Juki foot does not reach the bed of the machine.... how does this fit? Or has anyone found another foot to work on this machine?

I am using a Necchi BU style hopping foot on my 31-15. It is working well and required no modifications.
